New State Law Hopes To Limit Detrimental Effects Of Underage Drinking

A new Indiana state law, signed into effect by Governor Mitch Daniels, offers protection from prosecution for some minor alcohol-related offenses.

The law goes into effect on July 1, 2012 and offers protection for individuals who may be publically intoxicated or who are underage drinkers and are seeking help for another person who is facing an alcohol-related emergency.

“This law should be seen as a way to help save lives of underage drinkers,” begins a spokesperson for Mountainside Drug Rehab and Alcohol Treatment Center . “Sometimes, a group of underage students will join with others at a party, consuming a great deal of alcohol, and someone will fall critically ill due to excessive alcohol consumption. The tendency would be for the participants to protect themselves to the detriment of the person who needs medical attention. Under this new law, if a fellow underage drinker helps another potentially critically ill underage drinker, neither will be prosecuted. While we need to send the message for those who are underage to abstain from drinking alcohol entirely, we also need to make certain that those who have consumed too much alcohol do get the medical help that they need.”

The new Indiana law, called the Lifeline Law, provides immunity, as long as the person reporting the incident cooperates fully with police and other law enforcement officials, provides his or her contact details, including full name, and he or she must remain at the scene until police or the paramedics arrive. The message that this law hopes to send is that even if you have illegally consumed alcohol, one’s primary goal is to save the life of another person in peril.

Underage college drinking, which includes binge drinking, has claimed the lives of so many young people and will continue to do so until those at risk receive vital alcoholism treatment. Fortunately, Mountainside Drug Rehab and Alcohol Treatment Center specializes in helping individuals get on the road to recovery through their holistic drug rehab and alcoholism treatment programs. Coalition For The Advancement Of Brachytherapy

The Coalition for the Advancement of Brachytherapy (CAB) has reviewed recent media reports stemming from a study originally presented in December 2011 by physicians associated with the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center. The study compared the efficacy of whole breast irradiation (WBI) to accelerated partial breast irradiation (APBI), including the use of brachytherapy to treat select patients with early stage breast cancer. CAB believes that the methodology used in the MD Anderson study is misleading as it utilizes a Medicare billing claims database that does not include patient risk stratification data and therefore is not appropriate to use to compare outcomes and toxicities of ABPI to that of whole breast irradiation (WBI).

The treatments examined utilize different methodologies for delivering radiation therapy following surgery for the treatment of breast cancer. APBI delivers a targeted radiation therapy to select low risk patients over a five-day period. Whereas WBI delivers a broader radiation therapy whereby the entire breast is treated over the course of 30-40 days. The conclusions reached regarding the relative efficacy of the two forms of treatments are based completely on a retrospective study of insurance billing claims. This retrospective study fails to take into account key patient clinical characteristics, including, but not limited to pathology and staging, which determine risk assignment of a patient. Further, the billing code data was collected from patients treated from 2000 through 2007. Since that time, advances in brachytherapy product design, physics planning and delivery of dose have led to greater precision and accuracy of radiation treatment with improved outcomes.

CAB contends that it is impossible to draw any meaningful comparisons or conclusions without taking into consideration patient risk assessments. Counter to the findings in the MD Anderson study are multiple peer-reviewed publications available supporting the safe and effective use of APBI in appropriately selected patients. The safety and effectiveness of APBI is further supported by the fact that the American Society of Radiation Oncology (ASTRO) reaffirmed its Consensus Statement in 2011 endorsing the use of APBI in appropriately selected patients. The ASTRO APBI Consensus Statement was originally issued in 2009 based on an exhaustive search of the available medical literature in combination with expert opinion and public comment.

More recent data from a trial comprising over fourteen hundred breast cancer patients, presented on May 5, 2012 at the American Society of Breast Surgeons (ASBrS) Annual Meeting, found that APBI is equally effective, if not more effective, in preventing local breast cancer recurrence than WBI. * This trial’s findings not only contradict the MD Anderson data in finding that tumor control in the breast appears to be similar for APBI and WBI, but suggest that disease control at the initial tumor site may be better with APBI.

Michael Krachon, CAB Chair notes, “The MD Anderson study is by no means sufficient to condemn a promising procedure like APBI brachytherapy. As we await results of the randomized NSABP-B39 Phase III Trial comparing WBI to APBI, physicians should be mindful of the many positive peer-reviewed publications analyzing the efficacy and toxicity associated 2 1455 Pennsylvania Ave. NW, Suite 250, Washington, D.C. 20004 with APBI brachytherapy. The technique has been endorsed by ASTRO in appropriately selected patients, and physicians must take into account the clinical presentation of the patient and their own clinical judgment in the safe and appropriate use of this treatment modality.”

PruHealth Reveals Brits Are Eating Less Healthily Due To Rising Living Costs

PruHealth has announced that, according to its recent study, every one in five Brits (22%) is eating less healthily due to the rising cost of living.

With the UK dipping back into recession and food inflation on the rise, new data from PruHealth, the health insurance provider that rewards healthy behaviour, finds the continuing rise in cost of living means that 10.6 million Brits are not eating as healthily as they would like to and over half (52%) believe their health has suffered as a result of the recession.

The study, which ran at the start of the financial downturn in 2008 and again this year, highlights the nation’s health is sinking further into the doldrums in terms of its eating habits.

Over the last four years 75% of Brits have changed their eating and shopping habits and 85% of these stated the recession and or rising food prices as the cause for the change.

The ‘five-a-day’ mantra is one of the most high profile Government health campaigns, but the number of Brits struggling to reach the recommended target has increased by 26%. Three fifths (59%) admit they are currently finding it a challenge compared to 47% at the start of the recession in 2008

More than two thirds (68%) of Brits say healthier foods tend to be more expensive. One in six (16%) respondents said they’re buying as much as they can that is ‘reduced to clear’ and one in ten (11%) only buy foods that are on special offer. Worryingly, around one in four (24%) Brits say they regularly take vitamin supplements because they are unable to eat as healthily as they like or to supplement their diet.

Naturally most parents want to put their children’s health first and ensure they have a nutritionally balanced diet, but almost one in five (18%) are doing this at the expense of their own health. One in ten (9%) are even skipping meals so their children eat well.

Dr Dawn Richards, Head of Clinical Service at PruHealth, commented: “We can clearly see how people’s healthy eating habits have been affected, with the picture having got significantly worse since the start of the economic downturn. People are only too well aware of the need to eat healthily, but financial constraints are making it difficult, resulting in people’s health being negatively affected.”

New England Drug Rehab Urges Caution For Prom Season

As many teens get ready for their much-anticipated, end-of-the year celebration, Mountainside Drug Rehab and Alcohol Treatment Center issues an important reminder.

Prom season is a time of excitement for many of America’s youth. However, statistics show that nearly one-third of the alcohol related automobile accidents involving teens occur during the period of April, May, and June.

“This time of year, parents and students both tend to get caught up in the excitement of prom season,” begins a spokesperson for Mountainside Drug Rehab and Alcohol Treatment Center . “During this time of excitement, however, it’s important to remember the dangers of underage drinking, as well as driving with someone who may be of legal age who has been drinking. The realities of the statistics are harsh – more teens and young adults will face tragedies during these three months in alcohol-related accidents than at any other time of the year. Parents are strongly urged to make certain that they know who their children will be with and, as ‘uncool’ as it may be, to even be a designated driver for their children. Being proactive and having open communication with your children can go a long way in preventing tragedies from occurring.”

If you have a child or someone else in your life who has become burdened with alcoholism, Mountainside Drug Rehab and Alcohol Treatment center offers a comprehensive alcohol abuse program that can help them set their life back in order. Our outstanding family care program provides the comprehensive services that families need when dealing with addiction or alcoholism issues, by giving families the tools necessary to help their family member to get into recovery and to rebuild their bonds of unity. Mountainside’s treatment recovery program is recognized as one of the most comprehensive and individualized programs within the addiction treatment field.

Sierra Vista AZ. Dentist Drives Costs Down With “Smile-A-Mile” That Pays Your Gas

Dr. Steve Wolfington, of Cochise Caring Dentistry in Sierra Vista, AZ. announces their “Smile-A-Mile Program” that reimburses Cochise County Arizona Residents for gas used in round trip visits to their Sierra Vista dentist office.

Dr. Wolfington states, ”with the continued high price of gas, Cochise County residents are now paying an average of $3.73 per gallon, and with many patients a round trip visit can be up to 70 miles or more.

We have many patients traveling to our dental office in Sierra Vista, AZ. from Benson, Bisbee, Douglas and other outlying cities in Cochise County, even as far as Tucson. Our dental office has been in this location for over 30 years, and many staff members have treated and cared for 2 and 3 generations of our patient’s family and friends. They drive here because they want the comfort of knowing they are in the same good hands as many of their family and friends have for so long.

We were compelled to do something to maintain the comfort level our patients enjoy and for new patients as well, and we want to keep it that way. My wife Liz and I wanted to find a way we could help off-set the high cost of gas, and we came up with a simple program to help out our patients, “Smile-A-Mile”.

Smile-A-Mile reimburses patients for the round trip cost of gas

Our “Smile-A-Mile” Program reimburses our patients for their round trip cost of gas for each visit. We calculated the mileage from each of the cities like Benson, Douglas, Tombstone, Bisbee and more, to our Sierra Vista, AZ Dentist Office. We used the average miles per gallon that a typical family vehicle gets according to statistics, the average cost of per gallon of gas throughout Cochise County Arizona, and came up with our “Smile-A-Mile Program”. As an example, our Benson Arizona Patients are now being reimbursed $7.00 for each and every visit to our Sierra Vista Dental office, and all they need to do is bring in a water, electricity or phone bill to show proof of residence”.

We asked Dr. Wolfington “What about people with more than one family member or friend being treated, how are they reimbursed”?

“We kept it simple as we could; it is reimbursed per patient, so as to support car pooling. If there are 3 patients in one visit, it is three times the gas reimbursement amount. The amount to be reimbursed is credited to their individual treatment upon payment for services. We have placed the rates of reimbursement for 8 cities on our new Cochise Caring Dentistry website, and if anyone outside of these cities would like to become a patient and join the Smile-A-Mile Program, all they have to do is contact us, tell us what city their traveling from and we’ll respond with the amount.”

World Asthma Day 2012: San Francisco Childcare Centers Eliminate Exposure to Bleach Cleaning Products

Bleach is a strong irritant, frequently linked to newly-acquired asthma. A recent decision by Compass Children’s Center in San Francisco to use exclusively “bleach-free” cleaning products resulted in visibly less asthmatic symptoms in both children and childcare workers.

According to the U.S. Department of Health – National Institutes of Health (NIH), asthma affects more than 25 million people in the United States and over 230 million people worldwide. As asthma typically begins in early childhood, the NIH is committed to reducing environmental risk factors in children in order to prevent asthma before it begins.

On the forefront of asthma prevention, the San Francisco Asthma Task Force in a 2011 report on Bleach Exposure in Child Care Settings , discovered a high correlation between bleach exposure and work-related new-onset asthma cases as well as the exacerbation of pre-existing asthma conditions. As a result they set about field-testing various sanitizers and initially recommended a number of bleach-free disinfectant and sanitizer alternatives.

Food Contact Sanitizer Recommended

In late April 2012 the task force issued an interim update to the 2011 report with the discovery of an accelerated hydrogen peroxide sanitizer, SaniDate Ready-to-Use (RTU) Hard Surface Sanitizer. This sanitizer can be used directly on food-contact surfaces and as a fruit & vegetable wash, requiring only 1 minute contact time to eliminate over 99.9% of bacteria and human health pathogens.

SaniDate RTU was also recently approved by San Francisco Department of Public Health and various city ministries have begun roll out of the product as it’s recommended bleach-alternative sanitizer for food-contact surface.

The following video features the story of Compass Children’s Center in San Francisco and the lives of children in poverty that are being affected for the positive by reducing and preventing asthma through their transition to a bleach-free environment.

SaniDate Ready-to-Use Hard Surface Sanitizer is available for retail or volume purchase through EnviroSelects LLC.

New England Rehab Highlights Newest Problem With Cocaine

New research suggests that cocaine causes the brain to age faster in chronic users than the normal aging process for non-users of cocaine. A study by scientists at the University of Cambridge, and published in Molecular Psychiatry, focused on the grey matter of the brain in chronic cocaine users versus the grey matter of those who didn’t use cocaine. The study pointed out that while everyone loses grey matter every year, those who were chronic cocaine users lost grey matter at double the rate of non-users. Grey matter in the brain is responsible for decision-making, self-regulation, attention and memory, and the increased loss of it causes the brain to age more rapidly.

“It’s rather ironic,” begins a spokesperson for Mountainside Drug Rehab and Alcohol Treatment Center . “Individuals who use cocaine many times state that their reasons for use include having greater energy and a feeling of youthfulness. In reality, cocaine is, quite literally, draining the youth right out of their bodies. Cocaine is very highly addictive substance and is quite prevalent on the nightclub scene with younger individuals. That’s why it’s so imperative that we quickly get the word out and educate the public, particularly young people, about the potential, increased aging effects of this truly life-altering drug.”

The United Nations Office on Drug and Crime estimates that cocaine is the second most problematic drug, with nearly 21 million cocaine users worldwide. The signs of cocaine use are bloodshot eyes, nosebleeds, runny nose, weight loss, increased need for money and manic episodes. If you notice any of these signs and suspect that a young adult is experimenting with cocaine or is addicted to cocaine, Mountainside Drug Rehab and Alcohol Treatment Center can help you effectively and gently assist them to confront their drug use issues through professional intervention services. The team at Mountainside can make it easier for an addict and his or her family to make the entry into substance abuse treatment and into a comprehensive family care program. The Harley Medical Group skincare wins in IMAGE Beauty Awards 2012

Leading cosmetic surgery group The Harley Medical Group has won at the IMAGE Beauty Awards, which is often cited as Ireland’s most prestigious beauty awards. The group’s performance eye lift was the winning product, being heralded as the ‘best for eye lifting’ in the 2012 awards.

The Harley Medical Group was founded in 1983 and is a leader in the UK world of cosmetic surgery and non-surgical procedures, offering treatments for both men and women at its many clinics. With so many years of experience under its belt the group is able to provide patients with effective results for a range of cosmetic issues.

Alongside its many treatments available, The Harley Medical Group also has a range of skincare products that patients can use in conjunction with other treatments or as a standalone regime. The now award-winning performance eye lift can come as part of The Harley Medical Group’s Anti-Ageing Package, which includes everything needed to give skin a youthful glow.

The IMAGE Beauty Awards has been running for nine years now and over 500 products in four categories were tested for this year’s awards, meaning The Harley Medical Group’s performance eye lift stood up to some stiff competition. Sixteen independent judges narrowed down the categories to come up with this year’s winning products, and those included on the expert panel included Dr Rosemary Coleman, Nicky Hambleton-Jones from the Channel 4 show ’10 Years Younger’, Laura Bermingham from‘Ireland AM’ and Elaine Butler-Doolin, famous for her appearance on TV3’s ‘Celebrity Salon’.

Lisa Littlehales of The Harley Medical Group said: “We’re so thrilled to have won the IMAGE Beauty Awards for the best eye lifting category. Our performance eye lift is one of our most popular skincare products and it makes us proud to know that it’s been referred to as a ‘Cinderella eye cream’ by the judges on the panel.

“All of our anti-ageing creams and cleansers contain only the best ingredients in order to stimulate collagen growth to give you firmer, younger looking skin without the need for invasive treatments, which is undoubtedly why it won out in the end.”

Every product in the IMAGE Beauty Awards was tested against a number of criteria, such as value for money, performance, packaging, texture, scent and longevity. HAIR TODAY, GONE TOMORROW – Thousands Of UK Women Look For Permanent Solutions To Combat Excessive Hair Growth

According to the NHS, millions of UK women suffer from Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) which causes most cases of Hirsutism (excessive body hair). For most sufferers, the upper lip, chin, chest and lower back are the most affected areas.

With figures showing one to three pre-menopausal women in every 20 are affected by Hirsutism and up to three quarters of post-menopausal women, there are thousands of women looking for effective hair removal treatments, which offer long lasting results.

Lucy Sharratt, Laser Hair Removal Specialist at The Harley Medical Group, says: “For many women excessive hair growth on the face and body can be a very embarrassing and upsetting condition. Many patients tell us they spend hours a week tweezing, plucking and waxing facial hair, in a bid to keep the condition under control. This is hugely time consuming and can impact greatly on their daily lives. We’re seeing more women approach us who feel confident to talk about the condition, and seek treatments which can help.

One option that many favour is Laser Hair Removal; it’s an effective method, which requires no recovery time, fitting into the busy schedules of many professional women, mothers or students. Laser Hair Removal works by a focused light penetrating the epidermis of the skin and targeting the underlying hair. The hair’s pigment absorbs the light and is destroyed, leaving the skin with a smooth appearance. For facial treatment, such as upper lip and chin, the treatment time will take approximately 15 minutes and a minimum course of 8 treatments is recommended.

Hormonal changes associated with PCOS can mean that some of the dormant hair cells can become activated following a course of treatments, maintenance treatments can then be performed. The hairs which do grow back are much finer and become easier to manage.”

The Harley Medical Group has over 15 years Laser Hair Removal experience and have performed over 250,000 treatments to date. With 31 clinics nationwide, and a team of specialist Nurses, the Group is the provider of choice for many patients, with 85% of their bookings for Laser Hair Removal treatments being amongst women.

Jennifer Goody, 28 year old Laser Hair Removal patient at The Harley Medical Group, says: “I was diagnosed with Polycystic Ovary Syndrome when I was 23; I’d noticed excess hair on my upper lip and chin for about a year and went to the doctor as I was worried. When I was first diagnosed, I used hair removal cream and would spend hours every week checking my face in the mirror. I’ve had four laser hair treatments so far and I’m already noticing much less hair growing; I feel so much more confident, and no longer have to spend hours worrying about my appearance.”

Lisa Littlehales Top Tips for ultimate bridal beauty preparation:

• DRINK LOTS OF WATER
It’s recommended to drink around two litres of water every day. If you don’t already do this then it’s a great habit to pick up six months before the wedding, in order to encourage clear glowing skin in time for the big day.

• BOOK AHEAD
Make sure that you are not caught out in the weeks leading up to the wedding and book any treatments you are planning to have at least 6 weeks in advance.

• PERFECT YOUR BEAUTY REGIME
Finding and sticking to a beauty regime that suits you around six months before the wedding, will ensure that you have time to tackle any particular skin issues such as pigmentation. If pigmentation is your problem, try the Anti-Ageing Youth Serum. This contains Daisy extract, a skin lightening agent which is clinically proven to even out pigmentation, and stable Vitamin C – a strong form of the vitamin which promotes the production of collagen and helps to brighten the skin.

• PLAN YOUR TAN
If you want a sun kissed glow but don’t want to use tanning beds or splash out on a spray tan, The Harley Medical Group offer a Rejuvenating Self-Tanning Lotion, with a refreshing citrus sent. Make sure you apply two weeks before the wedding, so that you get the coverage you want right, to ensure you have a perfect looking tan on the day.

• ON THE DAY PROBLEMS
Everyone’s nightmare is a blemish just before their wedding day – try the Anti-Microbial Cell Renewal Cream which will deal with any difficult blemishes by stimulating blood flow to the area. The cream contains willow bark extract which will cut through the oily skin surface and increase cell turn over to give you healthy clearer looking skin.

The Harley Medical Group Reveals Their New Dermatologically Tested Skincare Range To Help Combat Troublesome Skin

Although skin acne is largely thought of as a problem affecting teenagers, 50% of all women and 25% of men will have acne at some time in their adult lives. Today with more people experiencing the on-set of acne in their 20’s and 30’s, adults are increasingly searching for effective solutions to help combat the condition.

The Harley Medical Group, UK experts with 28 years’ experience in non-surgical treatments, have launched their debut skincare range, comprising 12
dermatologically tested products which have been tested on patients across the UK. Designed as a proactive daily skincare regime, the range is also recommended to be used in conjunction with prescribed skin treatments, available from each of their 31 clinics nationwide.

Bernadette Harte, Nurse Counsellor at The Harley Medical Group, says: “Adult acne is a real problem and the first question our patient’s ask is why now? Often they had clear skin as a teenager and don’t associate this condition with adulthood. Humidity, stress and hormones are all contributing factors, so with warmer weather approaching and job stress high for many professionals, the summer can equal ‘acne season’ for many adults.

“People most affected by acne will have increased sensitivity in their sebaceous glands, which produce oil. When skin cells become blocked the sebum oil and dead skin cannot escape, resulting in an inflammation around the blocked cells. Bacteria can build-up and in turn produce blackheads, white head and angry, red spots.

“Patients approach us seeking advice on a whole new skincare regime which will not only clear up existing spots, but also prevent the problem from re-occurring. For more troublesome skin, we can combine the skincare products with non-surgical treatments. We’ve treated over 500,000 patients since we opened our first clinic, and harnessed our knowledge to offer our patient’s the most effective treatment combinations possible.”

The Harley Medical Group’s Anti-Acne Guide
– Ultra Anti-Bac Cream (£29 for 30ml) – The cream includes a combination of natural ingredients formulated to help reduce skin breakouts and the appearance of pimples, pustules and comedones for oily skin types. This cream will help calm the skin as well as reduce the amount of sebum produced. Apply twice daily. Gently rub the cream into the skin on acne affected areas, with attention around typically oily areas such as the nose and chin.

– Gentle Cleanser (£26 for 200ml) – This mild and gentle sweet orange cleanser helps to boost skin cell turnover, help dead skin escape and keeps skin fresh and clear. The orange oil is also shown to relieve nervous tension and stress. Use twice daily, once in the morning and once in the evening.

– Anti Microbial Cell Renewal Cream (£32 for 30ml) – Ideal for difficult blemishes, the cream contains a blend of active ingredients containing botanical seed extract that increases blood flow and helps to recover skin cell turnover. Apply a small amount to acne affected areas and allow the cream to fully absorb.

– Replenishing Exfoliator (£35 for 50ml) – Delivers collagen into the skin resulting in a firmer regenerated skin tone. The Vitamin C derivative and Beta Carotene help to promote collagen formation whilst the natural bamboo exfoliator gently removes dead skin cells leaving smoother softer skin.
Use once a week. Apply onto wet skin and massage in circular motions to ensure maximum cell stimulation.

For more stubborn acne, combine skincare products with the below Non-Surgical treatments for maximum results

– Aesthera PPx (from £60) – One of the most highly effective skin rejuvenation treatments, this is the only laser treatment which has been approved by the FDA* for treatment of comedonal acne (blackheads & whiteheads). Visible improvement of lesions can be seen between 24-48 hours after treatment. For maximum results, book a course of 4-6 treatments.

- Medical Microdermabrasion (from £95) – A mechanical exfoliation treatment which takes away the top layer of dead skin cells by releasing medical grade crystals at a high velocity onto the skin surface, helping to combat acne, blackheads and whiteheads. Following the treatment, the skin is in a better condition to absorb acne creams. For maximum results, book a course of 6 treatments with 2 weeks apart for each.

– Obagi Blue Peel (£595) – An effective skin peel treatment which helps reduce acne scars and large pores by removing dead skin cells of aged and damaged skin, replacing them with new, healthier cells. Following the treatment, the skin will peel, and heal within 7-10 days giving immediate results and continue to become clearer and healthier for the next 4-6 weeks. For maximum results, book one treatment every 6-8 weeks.

Teens Failing To Recognize Dangers Of Prescription Medication

Recent trends are proving more disturbing as teens’ attitudes towards prescription drug use are becoming increasingly ambivalent.

The dangers of prescription drug abuse seemed to have been making some headway in recent years, but statistics show that teenagers are showing more mixed feelings, and sometimes even confusion, regarding prescription drug abuse.

“The widespread use of prescription pain killers can be, understandably, confusing for teens and young adults,” begins a spokesperson for Mountainside Drug Rehab and Alcohol Treatment Center . “It’s difficult to understand how a substance that is readily prescribed by doctors and regularly used by their parents and/or grandparents can be so detrimental to them. What teens and young adults fail to understand is that although the medications may be prescribed by a physician and purchased at the local drug store, they can be dangerous when taken by someone for whom they have not been prescribed. We need to make sure that we effectively communicate the facts to teenagers and make certain that we be very careful when and if we are required to use such medications.”

If you feel that your teen or young adult is struggling with prescription medication abuse, alcohol abuse or any other type of substance abuse, Mountainside Drug Rehab and Alcohol Treatment Center can help you effectively and gently assist them to confront their abuse issues through professional intervention services. Our team can make it easier for an addict and his or her family to make the entry into substance abuse treatment and into a comprehensive family care program. New England Drug Rehab Highlights Warning Signs For Problematic Drinking

It’s estimated that over thirty-eight million American adults binge drink more than four times per month. The majority of those binge drinkers fall within two age groups: 18 to 34 year olds and those over 65 years old.

While binge drinking isn’t always a sign of problematic drinking, its increasing frequency can be. There are at least five other warning signs that Mountainside Drug Rehab and Alcohol Treatment Center points out, that when coupled with binge drinking may indicate a problem with alcohol.

•  Missing responsibilities. If one’s hangover makes one miss work or makes it difficult to perform day-to-day activities, it should be cause for caution.

•  Forgetting what happened during a drinking session. If the previous night’s activities are a blur and temporary lapses in memory occur, it could be a sign that alcohol consumption is becoming problematic.

•  Not realizing how much alcohol has been consumed. At times, individuals will begin the evening with good intentions, vowing to only consume a specific number of drinks. If alcohol consumption goes beyond that number, “accidentally”, on a continual basis, it could be an indication that an individual’s alcohol consumption is becoming problematic.

•  Drinking regularly, at specific intervals. Many individuals will avoid alcohol during the week, “saving up” for the weekend. If this occurs every weekend, it could be a sign of alcohol abuse.

•  Friends and family seem very concerned. Perhaps the biggest indicator of problematic drinking is concern expressed by third-parties such as family and friends.

“Many individuals begin exhibiting one or more of these signs without even realizing it,” begins a spokesperson for Mountainside Drug Rehab and Alcohol Treatment Center . “And, one of these symptoms alone doesn’t necessarily indicate problematic drinking patterns. However, when an individual begins to experience several of them, it should cause them concern as well as raise red flags to friends and family members. Knowing the signs of problematic drinking can help with early detection as well as early intervention.”

Alcoholism and alcohol abuse is a problem that faces millions of Americans, and those same individuals often feel hopeless in their battle. With proper, holistic alcoholism treatment and evidence based addiction treatment, individuals can reclaim their self-dignity and begin living their lives sober once again.

Michael J. Fox Admits To Using Alcohol To Cope

In a recent Parade Magazinearticle, actor Michael J. Fox discussed his diagnosis with Parkinson’s disease and how he initially chose to cope.

In 1991, Michael J. Fox was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease, a degenerative central nervous system disorder that affects the body’s motor system. Initially, he admits to using alcohol to deal with his diagnosis. Approximately one year into his diagnosis, however, his wife gave him a sudden wake-up call that caused him to realize he was headed down the wrong path. From that moment in 1992, he gave up drinking entirely.

“Being diagnosed with a debilitating disease is probably one of the worst fears for every human being,” begins a spokesperson for Mountainside Drug Rehab and Alcohol Treatment Center . “Mr. Fox’s response to his diagnosis is not uncommon. Many people choose to deal with stressful events, such as diagnosis of disease, divorce, loss of job, etc. by turning to alcohol. And, many aren’t as fortunate as Michael J. Fox – they often lapse into chronic alcoholism. Luckily, Mr. Fox’s wife was able to help him see that he was headed down a destructive path before it was too late.”

If you or a loved one is using alcohol, or any other substance, to cope with difficult circumstances in your life, you are not alone. Fortunately, there is a way to handle these troubling situations and, with proper holistic alcoholism treatment and addiction treatment, individuals can reclaim their self-dignity and begin living their lives sober once again.

The Impact Of Cocaine On The Heart Highlighted

The effects of cocaine have often been underestimated when, in fact, it is one of the most addictive substances abused and one of the most destructive to a variety of different physiological systems.

One of the draws of cocaine is the nearly instantaneous high it produces. It’s fast acting, entering the bloodstream quickly and traveling to the brain. One of the marked effects on the body is the effect cocaine has on the heart. It increases heart rate and blood pressure as it constricts blood flow to the heart. In an individual who has progressive heart disease which has resulted in significant narrowing of the arteries, cocaine use can produce immediate, fatal results.

“The effects of cocaine use are devastating,” begins a spokesperson for Mountainside DrugRehab and Alcohol Treatment Center . “At some point its use will catch up with an individual, either through immediate effects or via prolonged exposure. Not only does it physically wear on the individual, but the emotional and psychological impact is also profound. The sooner that help is sought for treatment, the less impact it can have on an individual’s life.”

If your family dynamic has been impacted by the use of cocaine in a loved one’s life, the effects don’t have to be continued and longstanding. With proper, holistic drug rehab and addiction treatment, individuals can reclaim their self-dignity and begin living their lives sober once again.

Controversial Treatment For Alcoholism: LSD vs. Traditional Methods

Last week, the website drugfree.org published a controversial analysis of studies conducted between the 1960’s and 1970’s which suggests that LSD may help those who battle alcoholism by reducing or eliminating their need to drink alcohol altogether.

Researchers at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology reviewed a total of six different studies involving LSD for alcoholism treatment. They found that nearly 60 percent of patients showed a marked improvement compared to thirty-eight percent of the control group. Not only that, they discovered those who were treated with LSD were less likely to relapse.

“Within the addiction field, there have always been various types of drugs and medications used to treat either substance abuse or alcoholism,” begins a spokesperson for Mountainside Drug Rehab and Alcohol Treatment Center. “Unfortunately, some of those drugs have spawned additional issues in the life of an addicted individual. That’s why caution must be urged and additional studies must be done. The last thing one wants to do is recover from one addiction, only to have problems arise from untested medications treatment used. We firmly believe in a holistic approach to alcoholism and substance abuse treatment. Our research and experience shows that treating each aspect of an individual yields far greater long-term sobriety success than the hope of a magic pill. Addiction treatment is a journey that must be undertaken for the long-term; there is no quick fix.”

If the life of a family member has become unmanageable due to alcohol abuse or drug abuse, Mountainside Drug Rehab and Alcohol Treatment Center can help you gently, yet effectively, approach them in a loving, caring way through our professional intervention services.
