Wilson Dental of McLean, a Veteran-owned Business Teams Up With Soldiers’ Angels to Collect Halloween Candy for Troops and Veterans

McLean, Virginia, 2019-Oct-30 — /EPR HEALTHCARE NEWS/ — Every year, millions of pounds of candy end up in the trash after Halloween. From over-buying, to kids collecting more than they can eat while Trick-or-Treating, candy is wasted across the country. This year, Wilson Dental of McLean is participating in a program that will help our community produce less waste after Halloween while also showing our support for our service members and veterans! Owner, Dr. Lois Wilson, is herself a Veteran who proudly served as an Army Dentist both here and overseas.

Soldiers’ Angels, a national 501(c)3 nonprofit, hosts an annual collection drive for excess Halloween candy. The organization ships the candy to deployed service members around the world for a sweet treat from home! They also utilize their “Angel” volunteers to distribute candy to veterans of all eras in VA Hospitals across the country.

Wilson Dental of McLean is proud to team up with the national organization to get our local community involved with giving back to the brave men and women who have sacrificed so much for our country. Our business has registered with Soldiers’ Angels to be an official drop-off site for Halloween candy. Once our collection drive is over, Wilson Dental of McLean will donate all collected candy to Soldiers’ Angels where it will be packaged and shipped to deployed or distributed in VA Hospitals.

“As a veteran of the US Army, I am excited to facilitate a donation for our service men and women who are deployed or currently in the hospital. I know first hand that being away from your family during joyful holidays is extremely difficult and I hope that this small token can help bring joy to those who sacrifice so much for our country.” – Dr. Wilson

The vision of Soldiers’ Angels is: May No Soldier Go Unloved. Although the gesture of handing out miniature candy bars may seem small, the impact that small gesture can have on troops and veterans is huge.

“When you are deployed to a combat zone, there are many comfort items you may go without for an extended period of time,” says Amy Palmer, President and CEO of Soldiers’ Angels. “Receiving care packages from home is a wonderful and unexpected surprise. The joy these service members get from opening a package of treats from home is immense and has a profound impact on their morale. The same can be said for veteran patients in VA Hospitals. Some patients have no family or regular visitors. When our Angel volunteers come in with treats like candy, the spirits of these patients are immediately lifted!”

Our collection drive will run from October 25th 2019 to November 18th 2019. Please call ahead before stopping by our location to drop off your candy:

Wilson Dental of McLean
1447-C Dolley Madison Blvd
McLean Virginia 22101

GenieMD to Feature Award Winning AI-based Telemedicine Platform at HIMSS19

San Francisco, CA, 2019-Jan-24 — /EPR Network/ — GenieMD will be exhibiting at HIMSS19 in Orlando, Florida February 11-15, 2019. The GenieMD team will be showcasing their iVisit Telemedicine platform. GenieMD’s award-winning Telemedicine platform, driven by an AI engine, assists in the patient’s triage allowing for a streamlined consult with their physician through its HIPAA compliant text messaging, video visits and question-based asynchronous visits.

Patients are demanding convenience, expanded access and lower cost of health care. Doctors are overwhelmed with simple cases which take up most of their consult time. Clinics are struggling to manage costs in light of their patients increasingly use of alternative channels to seek treatment. To address these challenges, technology companies are innovating new ways for patients to gain access to providers. Government regulators are responding more favorably to the use of these methods including Telemedicine. Therefore, Telemedicine adoption is growing at a rapid pace.

“At GenieMD, our mission is to help improve the quality of human life by providing solutions that enable people to live healthier and longer.” – Dr. Soheil Saadat, CEO

Health Gorilla Releases Mobile Application for Doctors

Digital Health Leader Expands Marketplace Access with Mobility

SUNNYVALE, CA., 2014-8-20 — /EPR Healthcare News/ — Health Gorilla™, Inc., the first online healthcare marketplace to connect doctors and clinicians with over 9,000+ diagnostic labs and 35,000+ radiology centers, has announced today the release of Health Gorilla mobile.  Health Gorilla mobile provides access to the Health Gorilla Marketplace through the Apple® iPhone® and iPad™.

Today over 68% of doctors have standardized on the Apple platform to communicate with peers and patients. Doctors can now use their mobile devices to place electronic orders with Health Gorilla mobile to diagnostic labs, radiology centers, physical therapy, skilled nursing facilities (SNFs) and durable medical equipment (DME) and other medical providers nationwide with the ability to track and review the results instantly as they arrive.  Physicians can then forward electronic results within their practice or exchange them with peers and patients to streamline the process and improve quality of care.

According to a study published by the New England Journal of Medicine noted that approximately 59.3% of all of a primary care physician’s daily emails were for the interpretation of test results and 21.7% were responses to patients.  The use of email generally increases the risk for doctors and their patients as most email services are not HIPAA compliant.

Another study published in the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA) reported that researchers from the Michael E. DeBakey Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Houston conducted a survey of primary care practitioners and found that a third reported missing alerts about test results from an electronic health record notification system designed to inform them when a patient has abnormal test results.

Doctors are adopting iPad and iPhones as the platform of choice to communicate with peers and patients. Health Gorilla mobile integrated messaging greatly reduces the risk in communication between a doctor and their patients by offering a fully HIPAA compliant environment. Health Gorilla mobile enables a physician to securely and compliantly forward diagnostic test results, radiology images, admission and discharge summaries and other clinical documents to patients and care coordinators through secure messaging.

Benefits of Health Gorilla Mobile Include:

  • HIPAA compliant and ONC modular certified MU2 solution
  • Order in less time than it takes to use fax forms
  • Receive results faster wherever you are
  • Forward results to patients instantly
  • Immediately refer results to another doctor and send messages
  • Eliminate error prone paper processes
  • Mobile solution available at no charge for doctors and their teams

“We believe that the value proposition is clear and compelling for doctors and their teams.” said Steve Yaskin, Chief Executive Office, Health Gorilla, Inc.  “The existing process is heavily dependent on paper, fax and manual processing.  It is slow, cumbersome and prone to error.  Doctors can better manage their time, and the time of their administrative and care coordinating teams, by using the power of the marketplace through the Health Gorilla app.  Now they have one place to order from any diagnostic lab, radiology center, hospital, physical therapy, sleep center, SNF and other healthcare providers in the United States.  A doctor can start with us the first day and begin ordering through the marketplace immediately.  Health Gorilla is the first to deliver this capability.  No other vendor can provide this benefit.”

Health Gorilla mobile is available as an approved Apple® enterprise application and will be distributed to existing Health Gorilla Marketplace users via a secure link for the next month.  In September Health Gorilla mobile app will be available from the Apple® store and will be fully integrated with the Apple® Health app upon its release.

About Health Gorilla

Largest Temporary Renal Dialysis Unit Deployed at King’s College Hospital

A temporary renal dialysis unit at King’s College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust has been increased in size to maximise efficiency, enabling the treatment of a greater number of patients.

The Liberty Quad unit, which links four 13.6m medical trailers together, has been providing essential care to hundreds of patients at the Trust’s Dulwich Community Hospital site since it was installed by EMS-Healthcare in February last year.

Initially intended as a six-month temporary solution, its success has led to the contract being extended until 2015 as well as its capacity increased.

The addition of a fifth mobile medical trailerhas created an eight-bed ward, plus a dedicated recovery bay and spacious, clean utility storage as well as a large comfortable working station for nursing staff. It is the largest single unit healthcare facility to be deployed by EMS-Healthcare.

Keith Austin, CEO in EMS-Healthcare said: “We took on board the Trust’s feedback and made significant improvements to the unit to help maximise efficiency and provide a more comfortable and spacious workplace for nurses to treat their patients.

“A major benefit of the Liberty Quad Plus facility is that it can be deployed quickly and efficiently as there is no structure to build or major site preparation required. The fifth unit was simply driven onto site and all fit out changes made over a weekend to ensure minimal impact on patient service.”

The temporary renal dialysis unit provides the ultimate flexible solution to estate management and clinical teams, ensuring King’s College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust can continue to provide high levels of life-saving care. The facility is operational six days a week delivering three sessions per day to groups of eight patients at a time.

Leading Veterinary Group with over 70 Vets in London Releases New YouTube Video

The Goddard Veterinary Group consists of over 70 vets in London, three dedicated veterinary hospitals and a wealth of other services to provide dedicated care for clients and their pets. Their new YouTube video showcases their practice and friendly staff. Goddard Veterinary Group started with just two practices in East London in 1952, fast forward 61 years to the release of their “Vets in London” YouTube video, they now boast 47 surgeries including three veterinary hospitals, as well as a pathology laboratory, a hydrotherapy unit, boarding kennels and cattery.

Regional Manager and Head Vet, Jeremy Stewart explains, “Here at the Goddard Veterinary Group, we’re very lucky. We’ve been a practice running for the last sixty years and we are a successful practice. That enables us to have the financial ability to reinvest and that is investing in the hospitals, in the branches, in the staff that we employ, enabling us to provide the best level of clinical care that we can for our patients.”

What started as a family run business in 1952 has expanded and grown over the years. The practice is still privately owned and is managed and staffed by a caring, hard-working and dedicated team. Julie Driscoll, the Head Receptionist at one of their practices says, “I like the fact that it’s a small family run business that although it’s grown as a whole, it still retains that individual feel.”

Their YouTube video showcases their Wanstead Veterinary Hospital, which was the first of three hospitals to be established by the Goddard Veterinary Group. Each hospital supports their local veterinary surgeries and they are open all year round, 24 hours a day. Jeremy Robinson, the Goddard Veterinary Group’s General Manager says, “Each surgery is fully equipped with surgical facilities and offers a personal, friendly yet professional service. Our network of branches is fully supported by our veterinary hospitals. These offer specialist referrals, as well as being open 24 hours a day.”

The referrals are available to all Goddard Veterinary Group practices and all other vets in London via a veterinary surgeon. They offer referrals in neurology, dermatology, ophthalmology and diagnostic imagining. Each of their referral disciplines have an RCVS or European Recognised Specialist. Tom Flynn, the Clinical Director says, “We have several Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons specialists and diplomats in a wide variety of disciplines and that gives us the ability to offer the highest level of expertise.” Goddard Veterinary Group also benefits from a veterinary physiotherapist, who is based at Stone Lion Hospital.

The Goddard Veterinary Group are dedicated to giving their clients and pets the highest level of care possible and so offer training courses to all of the vets that they employ. “As a vet at Goddard Veterinary Group, I feel it’s a great place to work. It gives me the opportunities to further my career. I’ve had numerous training courses and it means I can provide a high level of care to my clients and to my pets that I see.” says Ruth Gloster, a Branch Surgery Vet from their Putney practice.

Tom Flynn adds, “We recognise that each pet is a unique individual and a really important member of the family. Working with our vets in London, we can form the best plan possible to keep that pet as healthy as possible for as long as possible.”

EMS Healthcare’s recent work supporting better healthcare, closer to home

The prospect for major investment in new healthcare estates looks slim as the strategy to bring care closer to people’s homes becomes reality. Keith Austin, managing partner at EMS-Healthcare has looked at how the switch to community care is raising standards nationwide:

“Private Finance 2, which sets out a new approach to financing the building and maintenance of public infrastructure, will be used to build the next generation of hospitals. But despite its announcement at the end of last year there has been little movement to invest in new healthcare estates.

“The delay isn’t just about money or red tape; there is the wider strategy to consider of moving away from care delivered in hospitals to providing care closer to people’s homes.”

Keith continued, with how EMS Healthcare in particular helps address the costs involved with this kind of shift in patient care: “The scale of investment necessary to meet this ideal is much smaller than that required for developing new large scale hospital sites. But this isn’t the only benefit. We have been working with numerous private and public sector organisations to facilitate care in the community via medical trailer solutions and have been inspired by what has been delivered and the warm reception from patients and staff alike… To say the benefits can be life changing is not an overstatement.”

One stand out project for EMS Healthcare has been to fit out and supply Clatterbridge Cancer Centre with a state-of-the-art mobile chemotherapy facility. Since the beginning of the year the medical trailer has been improving patient care by making treatment as accessible and easy as possible, serving around 25 people daily from the Chester area in a Tesco car park.

“Perhaps an unlikely site for life-saving treatment, but the feedback from patients has been overwhelmingly positive. The bespoke medical trailer houses six chemotherapy stations with preparation, reception and waiting areas. Patients feel a real sense of community and ownership while attending the clinic and the environment has been described as ‘warm and cosy’ with a ‘more jovial atmosphere’.”

Other initiatives that EMS Healthcare have been involved in include a medical trailer eye clinic which helped medical consultants save the sight of thousands of patients across the East Coast of the UK, while saving them a trip of up to 84 miles for treatment. A temporary renal dialysis medical trailer unit has also saved patients in North Wales hours of travel every week, helping to improve their quality of life.

Thousands of patients across the UK are making long journeys to receive specialist treatment. These unique facilities provide a solution to help reduce the cost, burden and strain of travelling while delivering first class care. Waiting time is minimal too, making the experience less tiring, and a more familiar location helps put patients at ease.

The evidence is clear on why healthcare providers are taking their care closer to people’s homes. This patient-centric approach is set to continue and Keith – and EMS Healthcare – are proud to be part of it.

New Study Suggests Alcohol Abuse Rewires Brain, Impedes Trauma Recovery

A recently published study suggests that heavy alcohol use may interfere with recovery from traumatic situations.

The study was published in the journal Nature Neuroscience and focused on mice that were chronically exposed to alcohol in doses twice the legal driving limit imposed on humans. Conversely, the control group of mice wasn’t exposed to any alcohol. After administering, and then ceasing, tiny electrical shocks mimicking trauma within humans, the mice chronically exposed to excessive alcohol had a more difficult time recovering from the trauma. In addition, a key receptor within the brains of the alcohol-exposed mice was suppressed and nerve cells within the brain were found to have taken on a different shape.

“This study offers valuable insight into how chronic alcohol abuse may disrupt recovery pathways in human brains,” begins a spokesperson for Mountainside Drug Rehab andAlcohol Treatment Center. “By understanding the correlation between chronic alcohol abuse and anxiety associated with traumatic events, researchers could eventually develop drugs that could assist in recovery for chronic alcohol abusers.”

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention states that excessive alcohol use is the third leading lifestyle-related cause of death within the United States, estimating nearly 80,000 deaths annually. If you fear that a loved one may be excessively consuming alcohol, Mountainside Drug Rehab and Alcohol Treatment Center can assist them in getting their life back on track. Drug-Related Deaths Outnumber Deaths By Automobile Accident

The Centers For Disease Control (CDC) has declared prescription drug overdoses as an epidemic in the United States.

The CDC estimates that one death from abuse of prescription drugs happens every 19 minutes- a greater number than those killed in automobile accidents. The National Institute of Health estimates that nearly ten percent of Americans abuse narcotics over their lifetime; 20% of teens are estimated to be experimenting with opioids.

“The number of individuals who experiment with narcotics is alarming,” begins a spokesperson for Mountainside Drug Rehab and Alcohol Treatment Center. “It seems as if many individuals believe that experimenting with narcotics is safe simply because they are prescribed by a physician and filled at a pharmacy. These statistics show that these beliefs couldn’t be further from the truth. Prescription drugs are prescribed by a physician, or other qualified medical professional, for a specific individual – others abusing them are endangering their lives. We need to make certain that we are sending the right message, all of the time, to Americans. We must be vigilant as we declare war on this epidemic.”

While opioid abuse is growing at a staggering rate, there is hope. If you believe that your child or other loved one is among those who are experimenting with opioids or any other substance, Mountainside Drug Rehab and Alcohol Treatment Center can help provide professional intervention services that will help you to approach them in a non-confrontational manner.

Through their unique drug addiction treatment program, Mountainside’s team of professionals will customize a program that is unique to the specific treatment needs of the individual. In addition, their comprehensive family care program will educate the entire family as well and give them the tools to support the family member’s recovery process leading to the journey of life-long sobriety.

New Research Suggests Addiction to Opioids May be Preventable

A new study suggests that in the future it may be possible to eliminate possible addiction to opioids while increasing the pain relief that those medications provide.

A joint study conducted by researchers from the University of Adelaide in Australia and the University of Colorado focused on the body’s immune system response to opioids and, in particular, an immune receptor termed TLR4. This particular receptor allows the opioids to be bound to it and, by doing so, drives the physiological reward system. Researchers discovered that by creating a drug that blocks this receptor, opioids are prevented from driving the physiological reward system.

Another benefit was also discovered during this research phase. In addition to blocking the reward system pathways, researchers also discovered that the effectiveness of the opioids pain relief mechanisms also increased.

“This study deserves much consideration,” begins a spokesperson for Mountainside DrugRehab and Alcohol Treatment Center. “If it is develops that being able to increase the effectiveness of the pain relief properties of opioids while, at the same time, preventing the reward system from being activated, it will mean that those taking various pain medications will be on a safer journey.”

Statistics from the National Institute of Health estimates that nearly ten percent of Americans abuse opioids over the course of their lifetime, with one in five children experimenting with opioids prior to their seventeenth birthday. If you believe that your child is among that twenty percent and are in need of assistance in reaching your child, Mountainside Drug Rehab and Alcohol Treatment Center can help provide professional intervention services that will help you to approach your child in a non-confrontational manner.

Through their unique drug addiction treatment program, Mountainside’s team of professionals will customize a program that is unique to the specific treatment needs of the individual. Alcohol abuse may be predictable in future

A new study conducted by researchers at the University of California found that future prediction of alcohol abuse might be possible.

MRI scans were performed on 40 adolescents who had never drank alcohol and found that the children who had been followed, initially, showed less activity in specific areas of the brain and were at potential risk for becoming heavy drinkers.

“While this study followed adolescents, it provided valuable insight into the brain’s mechanisms,” begins a spokesperson for Mountainside Drug Rehab and Alcohol Treatment Center. “Certainly, this study doesn’t advocate brain scans for adolescents, but research into the way these specific areas of the brain function may be able to help those within the addiction field to look into means for advanced prevention for alcohol abuse in the future within a variety of ages of individuals.”

Prevention, beginning at a young age, is the key to decreasing alcohol abuse in America.

As a parent, you may find it difficult to approach your child about issues relating to alcohol or to their drinking. However, if you suspect that your young adult is struggling with underage drinking, Mountainside Drug Rehab and Alcohol Treatment Center can help you gently and effectively approach them with their customized, professional intervention services.

New FDA Regulations Require More Of Opioid Drug Makers

In an effort to help decrease the number of deaths related to opioid overdose, the FDA is requiring pharmaceutical companies that manufacture opioids to help fund training programs for medical professionals. Along with the training funding, drug makers will also be required to provide safety pamphlets to patients explaining the risks and interactions of the opioids.

“The FDA’s new measure will hopefully prove to be an effective means to decrease overdose due to the misuse of prescription drugs,” begins a spokesperson for Mountainside Drug Rehab and Alcohol Treatment Center . “Education of patients is particularly important. Some may think that the risk of overdose and the misuse of narcotics are widely known. However, we believe that some individuals still believe that taking just a few extra pills can’t hurt. In fact, that’s simply not true; taking a few extra pills can be the difference between life and death.”

In the past decade, overdose death rates within the United States have more than tripled. While a narcotic addiction can start off innocently, it can quickly become an acute, dangerous addiction. If you are concerned that your narcotic use may be spiraling out of control, Mountainside Drug Rehab and Alcohol Treatment Center can help you get, and stay, on the road to recovery. Through their unique addiction treatment program, their team of professionals will customize a program that’s unique to your specific treatment needs. July 4 Is Among The Most Deadly Holidays In The US

While many are celebrating the anniversary of the independence of the United States, others are suffering tragedy.

The state of Louisiana reports that more than half of their state’s motor vehicle crashes occur during the Fourth of July holiday, and the numbers increase annually.

“Many states report the same tragic situation that takes place in Louisiana,” begins a spokesperson for Mountainside Drug Rehab and Alcohol Treatment Center. “Fortunately, in response to the growing number of fatal motor vehicle accidents, Highway Patrols in many states are setting up additional sobriety checkpoints and saturation patrols during this holiday period, as well as other holiday periods. While these methods certainly have the potential to reduce fatalities, the best method is to be pro-active with prevention.”

Tips for being pro-active in prevention for the Fourth of July holiday:

•  Designate yourself as the sober driver. Don’t wait for someone to volunteer to become the designated driver. Let your friends know that you are the point of contact for all transportation needs during the Fourth of July celebratory events.

•  Limit the amount of alcohol served to everyone. Limiting the number of drinks served to everyone changes the atmosphere of the party from one of intoxicated people to one in which everyone is having fun and not getting intoxicated.

•  Make plans to stay put. While this may seem like an extreme measure, if you’re hosting a celebration, arrange for a place for some guests to crash in the event they drink too much.

Holiday times can be a particularly challenging and eye-opening time for those who abuse drugs and alcohol and can be used as a catalyst for change in the life of an addicted individual. If you are interested in helping a friend or loved one recover from their addiction, Mountainside Drug Rehab and Alcohol Treatment Center can assist you with professional intervention services. Upon admission, Mountainside will help create an individualized drug and alcohol abuse program that fits each individual’s needs and helps them get on the road to a sober life. In addition, its comprehensive family care program gives you and your family the tools needed to help support you in your recovery journey.

Mesa AZ Dentist Views Banner Health Through The Eyes Of A Child Program Sponsorship

During the last 30 years of providing dental care throughout the Mesa community, the Robison Dental Group has continued to give back o the nonprofit health organizations serving local residents.

This month our staff gave recognition to one of the nonprofit organizations serving the Mesa community. After hearing so much about the programs Banner Health offers through our patients, many who are Banner Health employees, one just tugged at the hearts so much that our entire staff simply said “That’s The One”. It was unanimous. Charlotte, our Office Manger of 25 years, and the entire staff were so excited, the next thing I knew, there was a shopping list for gift bags and an assembly line in our lunchroom.

“Through The Eyes Of A Child” – A Cardon Children’s Medical Center Program Banner Health responded to the needs of our children who were unable to attend school during treatment. Six years ago, Banner Desert Hospital started a program for schooling and the transition back to school. In 2009 the school was relocated to the Cardon Children’s Medical Center, which now serves over 1000 children each year. The program is staffed and managed year round

The teachers at Cardon school act as advocates for each student, communicating with the child’s teachers and school officials .Having the knowledge and experience to know what each child is entitled to, “Through The Eyes Of A Child”.

The school provides a “Re-Entering” phase where a teacher or counselor will accompany the child back into the child’s home school or classroom to provide answers for the teacher and fellow classmates. This is a very emotionally sensitive process that requires the skills and experience of the Program Staff.

The hospital was designed to look and feel as close as possible to home. Each room is equipped with a dining table, small refrigerator, and bathroom. There is a convenient laundry facility available for parent’s personal use.

We want to thank Sue Eaton, MSW, CCLs and Senior Manager Child Life, for the tour and opportunity to be a part of this great organization, and most certainly, the banner employees who speak so highly of Banner Health

We are proud of Banner Health, and we know our gifts and money for our sponsorship is serving one of the best causes we all stand for, “giving back to the community and our precious children within it”.

Importance Of Individualized Drug Rehab Highlighted

Within the field of addiction treatment many methodologies are available for rehabilitation. But, none are quite as effective as the approach used by one particular drug rehab located in Canaan, CT.

In its humble beginnings, Mountainside Drug Rehab and Alcohol Treatment Center set out to provide innovative and individualized treatment. Through its evidence-based treatment modalities, supported by new innovative treatment modalities, Mountainside created a rehab model that sets the course for lifelong sobriety success for those entering into the Mountainside treatment program. This newfound approach was relatively simple in nature: individualized treatment for each person.

“At its core, our rehab program is very straightforward,” begins a spokesperson for Mountainside Drug Rehab and Alcohol Treatment Center. “Each person who enters into rehab is unique – they bring their own set of circumstances into treatment and, because of that, there’s no exclusive treatment model that fits everyone. When a person enters into our rehab program our team of clinical professionals completes a thorough assessment and then is able to create a program that addresses the uniqueness of each person. Some individuals who enter into treatment present with dual diagnoses; this requires the services of a psychiatrist to help with an underlying problem that may be contributing to the addiction. Other individuals may enter into treatment experiencing massive withdrawals from their substance of choice, necessitating a physical detox. Whatever the need, we are able to create an individual course of action which establishes a solid foundation for long-term sobriety success.”

If you or a family member is struggling with a substance abuse problem, Mountainside Drug Rehab and Alcohol Treatment Center can help you by creating an individualized treatment program that addresses your specific needs for recovery. Our outstanding family care program provides the comprehensive services that families need when dealing with an addiction or alcoholism issue by giving families the tools necessary to rebuild their bonds of unity. Mountainside’s treatment recovery program is recognized as one of the most comprehensive and individualized programs within the addiction treatment field.

New State Law Hopes To Limit Detrimental Effects Of Underage Drinking

A new Indiana state law, signed into effect by Governor Mitch Daniels, offers protection from prosecution for some minor alcohol-related offenses.

The law goes into effect on July 1, 2012 and offers protection for individuals who may be publically intoxicated or who are underage drinkers and are seeking help for another person who is facing an alcohol-related emergency.

“This law should be seen as a way to help save lives of underage drinkers,” begins a spokesperson for Mountainside Drug Rehab and Alcohol Treatment Center . “Sometimes, a group of underage students will join with others at a party, consuming a great deal of alcohol, and someone will fall critically ill due to excessive alcohol consumption. The tendency would be for the participants to protect themselves to the detriment of the person who needs medical attention. Under this new law, if a fellow underage drinker helps another potentially critically ill underage drinker, neither will be prosecuted. While we need to send the message for those who are underage to abstain from drinking alcohol entirely, we also need to make certain that those who have consumed too much alcohol do get the medical help that they need.”

The new Indiana law, called the Lifeline Law, provides immunity, as long as the person reporting the incident cooperates fully with police and other law enforcement officials, provides his or her contact details, including full name, and he or she must remain at the scene until police or the paramedics arrive. The message that this law hopes to send is that even if you have illegally consumed alcohol, one’s primary goal is to save the life of another person in peril.

Underage college drinking, which includes binge drinking, has claimed the lives of so many young people and will continue to do so until those at risk receive vital alcoholism treatment. Fortunately, Mountainside Drug Rehab and Alcohol Treatment Center specializes in helping individuals get on the road to recovery through their holistic drug rehab and alcoholism treatment programs. Their evidence based holistic treatment models are among the most effective for long term sobriety and are recognized among the most comprehensive and individualized programs within the addiction treatment field.
