Forza To Build New Factory In Kent

Forza has announced that plans have been drawn up for the building of a new factory in Kent.

The factory will be using the latest technology and machinery to ensure consistency within the manufacturing processes of Forza’s health supplement products, including slimming pills. All of the company’s ingredients are blended for over 24 hours to ensure that each and every capsule is identical. More of Forza’s products will have branded capsules so that the customer understands that from purchase to consumption, Forza is looking out for them.

Matt Morgan CEO, Forza Group Ltd, said: “Forza is delighted to announce that we will open a new cutting-edge facility in Kent. All of our products are made to GMP standards and our customers can continue to expect the very best weight loss and wellbeing products from Forza. As one of the fastest-growing health supplement companies in the UK, this news is further evidence of our continuing success.”

Kent was an obvious choice for the company when deciding on the location for the new factory due to it being a transport hub. Forza has a growing customer base in Germany and being close to the ports means that its deliveries can arrive faster than if they were dispatched from any other part of the country. In addition, Forza’s directors have been able to make much better use of the Eurostar and Le Shuttle services for meetings in northern Europe, allowing the brand to expand into new markets.

The factory is the latest investment Forza has made into its services and follows the opening of a new Fulfilment Centre in Ashford, Kent. The Centre operates solely to distribute Forza products to retail and trade customers in the UK and Europe. With this new facility the company is able to handle the growing number of packages that are being dispatched daily. From its old Fulfilment office, it could handle 350 packages a day but now that Forza sell trade packs and the retail demand has increased the company is committed to continuous reinvesting in its infrastructure.

Great Ormond Street Hospital Supports Stem Cell Awareness Day

Great Ormond Street Hospital and its research partner, The Institute of Child Health at University College London (UCL), are supporting Stem Cell Awareness Day, with UCL promoting the event with the launch of a new YouTube video featuring Mr Paolo de Coppi and his colleagues.

Mr. de Coppi is Clinical Senior Lecturer in the Surgery Unit at The Institute of Child Health at UCL and carries out stem cell research at Great Ormond Street Hospital. It is hoped the research will result in stem cells being used to repair damaged organs. Mr de Coppi has looked for naturally occurring stem cells in amniotic fluid as a novel solution to some of the serious birth defects he sees. Around 40 per cent of patients at Great Ormond Street Hospital have some form of birth defect.

Mr de Coppi said: “As a surgeon I often see the devastating effects of multiple reconstructive operations aimed at replacing damaged organs. I have therefore focused my research interests on stem cells and tissue engineering, trying to find new ways to treat complex birth defects. I have identified stem cells in the amniotic fluid and found they have the ability to become many different types of cell. Our research aims to find ways of using these cells to repair and replace damaged tissues, so that babies are given the chance of a healthy life from the day they are born.

“The idea is we can create tissues in a test tube using a baby’s own cells, and then implant these at birth. We’re looking at repairing organs like intestines or windpipes. Grown from a child’s own cells, there should be no rejection of tissue.”

The video sees Mr. de Coppi discussing the work he and his colleagues carry out and offering insight into the latest developments relating to his stem cell research and the possibility of deriving cells from amniotic fluid. Reduction In Addiction Stigma Sought

The stigma attached to addiction is often a roadblock on the road to recovery for many addicted individuals. National Recovery Month, however, has worked to reduce this stigma through public awareness and education.

While there can be many factors that influence an individuals’ decision on whether or not to seek treatment for their addiction, one of the most prevalent deterring factors seems to be the stigma associated with being an addict and/or alcoholic.

“When most people think of addicts, the image of dirty crack houses may be the first image that comes to one’s mind,” begins a spokesperson for Mountainside Drug Rehab and Alcohol Treatment Center . “While the image can be an accurate one, for the most part, addicted individuals don’t fit that stereotype. Instead, they are ordinary people, just like us, with whom we come in contact on a regular basis. They are people who work at stores, office buildings and who have families. Unfortunately, the stereotype of the crack house addict has a tendency to further alienate an addicted individual from going into drug rehab thus perpetuating the cycle of drug and alcohol abuse. In order to reduce the social stigma of addiction, we have to be willing to confront the issue, educate the public on addiction as well as give individuals the additional tools necessary to combat the stigma of addiction. Until we can open up these avenues, the cycle of abuse will continue to rise.”

While addiction and substance abuse is a growing problem facing America, recovery is, indeed possible. If you or a loved one suspects that substance abuse or alcoholism is taking hold in your or their life, Mountainside Drug Rehab and Alcohol Treatment Center can assist you in beginning the journey to recovery and living a life of sobriety.

Mountainside Drug Rehab and Alcohol Treatment Center is a modern drug rehab facility that is skilled in serving a variety of clients with various addictions and in varying stages of addiction. The caring, compassionate team is made up of licensed and certified social workers and counselors who have extensive experience and specialty in the addiction treatment field. In addition, the staff includes a Nurse Practitioner, as well as a Registered Nurse, both of whom also have specializations and experience within the field of addiction treatment and alcohol rehab.

Mountainside also provides services for those individuals who come to them with dual diagnoses and require the services of a Psychiatrist to help conquer the unique challenges that dual diagnosis brings.

For the past 13 years, Mountainside has established itself as an innovator within the addiction treatment field, and the treatment modalities Mountainside utilizes are regarded as among the most cutting-edge approaches in helping individuals to get, and to remain, sober. As a result of their unique, innovative approaches to addiction treatment, Mountainside has become the model for the addiction treatment field.

The program, along with its professional addiction treatment team, have earned national recognition and resulted in Mountainside being invited to Washington by the White House to meet with the White House Drug Czar, John P. Walters, for an in-depth meeting on what makes its program so successful. These accolades did not go unnoticed within the addiction treatment field and resulted in the adoption by many throughout the country of a more holistic approach to drug addiction treatment.

The Harley Medical Group Reveals The British Profession Most Likely To Have Cosmetic Treatments

British celebrities with various professions, including chef Gordon Ramsay, TV presenter Kay Burley and fashion designer Victoria Beckham, all openly admit to having cosmetic treatments.

Inspired to reveal the professionals most likely to have treatments, The Harley Medical Group has found that it is actually those in the military who are most likely to have cosmetic treatments.

The Group conducted a survey across its 31 clinics in the UK and Ireland which revealed the military made up over 8% of bookings in the last six months, with patients choosing non-surgical treatments such as Botox, dermal fillers and surgeries such as otoplasty and gynaecomastia.

Top Five Professions Most Likely to Have Cosmetic Surgery
1. Military
2. Teachers
3. Policeman
4. City Workers
5. Hairdressers & Beauticians

Says Lisa Littlehales, Lead Nurse Counsellor at The Harley Medical Group: “Often patients who are in very active professions such as the military, opt for treatments as they feel they begin to look older than they feel, as their faces age more obviously than their bodies. Patients in the military profession also comment that playful banter in the mess encourages them to look into surgical options.

“Active celebrities such as Maria Sharapova, Mike Tindall, Jermain Jenas and Shane Warne, have all had cosmetic treatments. This type of patient is a great candidate for surgery, as they take regular exercise, generally eat healthily, don’t drink to excess or smoke and are in excellent health.”

The Harley Medical Group Patient and Army Corporal Danielle Hagget, 23, comments on her reasons behind having otoplasty: “I always hated my ears but after joining the army I began to notice them more, as I always have to wear my hair up, drawing even more attention to my ears. Being in a male oriented environment, there is often playful banter within my unit, although this is always a bit of fun, it also gave me the push I needed to go ahead with surgery and I decided to take the opportunity to save for my procedure while I was in Afghanistan. My surgery has given me a massive confidence boost, which has really helped my career – it’s the best thing I’ve ever done for myself.”

National Recovery Month Draws To Close

The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration has set aside September of each year to be designated as National Recovery Month.

In doing so, the goal of SAMHSA is to demonstrate to the public that recovery from addictions is attainable.

“I think many people have the idea that addiction recovery is a pipe dream,” begins a spokesperson for Mountainside Drug Rehab and Alcohol Treatment Center . “I believe that one of the reasons for this notion is that relapse stories are often highlighted in the media, and the stories of long term addiction recovery aren’t brought to light as often. Because of this, the public gets the idea that relapse is almost always a given in the life of a recovering addict. That’s simply not true. Long term sobriety is possible to achieve, provided that an individual wants to get sober and provided that they participate in a drug rehab program that provides individualized addiction treatment – i.e. an individualized treatment program that is designed specifically for them and that addresses the challenges that they personally face as they get sober.”

Individualized holistic drug rehab has proven to be one of the most effective means of treating a person suffering with addiction. If you feel that a loved one is struggling with addiction, Mountainside Drug Rehab and Alcohol Treatment Center can help with professional intervention services that are specialized to each person’s unique situation.

Mountainside Drug Rehab and Alcohol Treatment Center is a modern drug rehab facility that is skilled in serving a variety of clients with various addictions and in varying stages of their addiction. Many St. Paul Orthodontists Celebrate National Orthodontic Health Month

During National Orthodontic Health Month- observed every October- many Lakeville, Savage and St. Paul orthodontists educate the public on types of braces, adult orthodontic treatment and other important issues.

This year, Cosmopolitan Orthodontics’ goal is educating parents on the importance of having their children screened by age 7, says orthodontist Dr. Trudy Bonvino, who provides braces for adults and children.

The American Association of Orthodontists recommends that children receive an orthodontic evaluation by age 7, when their teeth and jaws are developed enough for an orthodontist to see if any serious bite problems exist.

“Most children are not candidates for early treatment,” Bonvino says. “However, to determine whether your child is a candidate, it’s important that they be evaluated.”

Orthodontists are specialists who complete a two-year residency after dental school to learn to identify and treat bite and alignment problems.

“This evaluation is needed in addition to regular dental visits because it gives us time to watch your child’s development and determine the appropriate mode of treatment, if necessary,” she says.

Identifying problems early puts time on an orthodontist’s side. They can plan ahead and prevent more serious problems. Lots of malocclusions are more easily corrected when identified early.

There are some circumstances that warrant an even earlier visit, Bonvino says. If a child is a mouth breather, sucks his/her thumb or fingers, or uses a pacifier beyond about age 2 and it appears the child’s teeth are being affected, consider bringing him/her child in for an evaluation sooner.

Sports Stars Get Behind The Co-Operative’s Commitment To Governments Pledge To Get Kids Active

The Co-operative Group today launched a pledge to back the Government’s Public Health ‘Responsibility Deal’ to encourage more people to become more physically active. The Co-operative, which is already committed to inspiring young people to lead an active lifestyle, launched a pledge with its partner Activate Sport – the UK’s leading sports and activity camps for children – committing, by 2012, to:

• reach 20,000 through sports camps;
• double the number of camps to 500 across the UK.

To launch the pledge, golfer Lee Westwood and dancer Brendan Cole, whose specialist Academies are supported by The Co-operative, teamed up to give youngsters lessons in dance and golf, as well as swapping some professional tips with each other on the course at Rye Hill Golf Club, Banbury.

Other sporting stars backing the pledge include former England cricketer Andrew Flintoff, tennis star Annabel Croft, Welsh rugby player Shane Williams, England’s Rugby World Cup winner Matt Dawson and GB Hockey player and Olympic hopeful Crista Cullen – all of whom will be working with The Co-operative to achieve this pledge through their specialist Academies.

Simon Burns, Minister of State for Health and Co-Chair of the Responsibility Deal Physical Activity Network welcomed the new individual pledge on behalf of The Co-operative and Activate Sport.

He said: “This pledge on behalf of The Co-operative and Activate Sport is a great example of a major retailer working in partnership to promote a range of sport and physical activity opportunities for children and young people. This is particularly important for those children and young people from disadvantaged backgrounds who often face a range of barriers to participate regularly in sport and physical activity. Through the Public Health Responsibility Deal, I am particularly pleased to see The Co-operative and Activate Sport pledging to reach 20,000 children and young people in 2012 – an increase of 25 per cent and hugely important in the year in which London will host the Olympic and Paralympic Games. The potential long-term benefits are huge and extend well beyond health to improved self-confidence and better social interaction.”

Fred Turok, Co-Chair of the Responsibility Deal, Physical Activity Network, said, “I am delighted that The Co-operative has moved so quickly in setting the standard for business by making a core commitment to the health of the nation, giving opportunities to young people to increase their physical activity levels through their partnership with Activate Sport. It is crucial that we improve the nation’s health through physical activity and embed exercise into the DNA of business and the community. I urge other businesses to follow this example and begin to think about their own commitments and role in improving the health of the nation.”

Lee Westwood commented, “I’m passionate about seeing as many young people active and outside as possible, and through my Academy, I’m happy to be part of this pledge to help create these opportunities. To achieve this though, sport needs to be made accessible so increasing the number of camps, is a positive step towards changing the lifestyle of people in the UK. I will also be helping The Activate Sport Foundation and The Co-operative take golf into state schools across the UK, in a task to opening up the game to everyone.”

Brendan Cole, who has set up his own Dance Academy, has also committed to The Co-operative’s pledge to get people active. He said, “Dance can really help build a child’s confidence whilst getting them healthy and active; it’s a great way to work off some energy, particularly for those who aren’t into traditional sports. It’s also not just for girls – boys can get so much out of it too. I’m delighted to be able to help with the pledge to get more people active and I hope I can help inspire people through dance.”

Peter Marks, Group Chief Executive of The Co-operative Group, commented: “The Co-operative recognises the role it has to play in promoting public health, and we are committed to working in partnership with the Government through the Public Health Responsibility Deal. The pledge we are making in partnership with Activate Sport is part of our broader commitment to the Responsibility Deal, and will encourage young people to lead a more active and healthy lifestyle. The pledge is also part of our wider commitment to inspiring young people – locally and globally – with thousands of initiatives encouraging young people to help change the world around them.”

Alcohol Disorders For Females Increasing

A recent review slated to be published in the journal Alcoholism: Clinical & Experimental Research , shows that alcohol disorders among women are on the rise.

While the journal doesn’t specifically pinpoint why alcohol disorders among women are increasing, it suggests that social and financial environments may increase the risk of alcoholism.

“Alcoholism among women can increase risk factors in other areas of their lives,” begins a spokesperson for Mountainside Drug Rehab and Alcohol Treatment Center . “For example, women who are heavy drinkers are more vulnerable to sexual violence. In addition, they have greater risk of chronic diseases associated with excessive alcohol consumption. Since alcoholism among females is on the increase, it’s important to turn our focus to prevention and education at a public health level so, at the very least, we increase awareness of the risks to this particular group.”

Many scientists agree that heavy drinking among females poses specific social and health risks to women. As a result of the difference in weight and body size among men and women, females are likely to become more intoxicated than a man consuming the same amount of alcohol. In addition, females metabolize alcohol differently than men, further highlighting the challenges women face when deciding to drink, even on a social level.

Nearly 18 million adults and children in the United States are affected by alcoholism and its related problems. If you feel that you or a loved one has gone beyond social drinking to a more serious problem, Mountainside Drug Rehab and Alcohol Treatment Center can help with professional intervention services that are specialized to each person’s unique situation.

Mountainside Drug Rehab and Alcohol Treatment Center is a modern drug rehab facility that is skilled in serving a variety of clients with various addictions and in varying stages of their addiction. Sales Of Second-Hand Child Car Seats Raises Safety Fears

Cash strapped parents could be putting their children’s safety at risk by buying second hand infant car seats, industry experts have warned.

New figures show that purchases of pre-owned child travel seats are rising, as families struggle to cope with today’s difficult economic conditions.

Car accessories retailer Halfords reports that 7% of its customers admit they have recently bought second hand car seats for their children, a rise of 2% compared to figures from its 2009 customer survey.

This is despite the fact that it can be virtually impossible to tell how old a second hand child seat is, if it has been involved in an accident, or even how to fit it, as most are rarely sold with the original fitting instructions or safety manuals.

“A lot of wear-and-tear on a pre-owned child car seat may not be visible to the untrained eye and buckles and straps that look fine at first glance may actually be so damaged that they could fail during an accident,” warned Halfords Child Travel Expert Samantha Preece.

“We know from our own research that 51% of parents do not know how to check if their child seat is correctly fitted, so it is a big worry that some people may buy a second hand car seat that doesn’t even come with instructions.”

Statistics on car accidents involving children are stark: every year 30 children between the ages of 0 to 11 years are killed, 400 seriously injured and over 7,000 slightly injured while travelling in cars 1. A correctly fitted car seat can help prevent some of these injuries.

Robert Anslow, managing director of the Baby Products Association, explained: “Generally a car seat will be used numerous times each day for many years and the BPA can’t stress enough the importance of buying new from a retailer who can provide expert product advice and the correct fitting instructions, which in the event of an accident, could save their child’s life.”

Samantha Preece added: “Some child seats will last for around 12 years, so given the added protection to the child and the peace of mind for the parent, a new child seat, correctly fitted, is an investment worth making.”

Mums Look To Non-Surgical Treatments To Achieve School Gate Confidence

With celebrity school mums like Elle McPherson and Claudia Schiffer providing inspiration from their perfectly groomed school gate snaps, The Harley Medical Group has seen a rise in mums booking in for rejuvenating treatments to achieve that same enviable yummy mummy look, in time for the new school term.

The Group reports a huge 26% rise in the past two months, from female patients booking in for treatments such as Botox, dermal fillers, skin peels and medical microdermabrasions, citing competition at the school gates as their reason.

Says Lisa Littlehales, Specialist Nurse Counsellor at The Harley Medical Group: “Lots of mums come in for non-surgical treatments before their children start school again.

“Most of these women have minimal spare time and don’t have time to put on makeup every day, so non-surgical treatments which are quick and with minimal pain mean that with busy term times, they are a great option. Most last up to a minimum of three months, which means that mums will stay looking great and feeling confident at the school gates all term.”

Jenny Powell, 43, UK television presenter, mother and patient at The Harley Medical Group, comments on her reasons for looking to non-surgical options: “I have a busy lifestyle and often find that the challenges and strain of juggling work and family take its toll on my appearance, as I don’t always have the time to pay too much attention to the way I look.

“Once the school term starts again I feel especially conscious about my appearance in front of the other mums at the school gate – especially as so many celebs in the media are seen looking amazing when they drop off their kids. In order to make sure I look and feel my best before the new term I tend to have a medical microdermabrasion treatment. The treatment always rejuvenates my skin and makes it look amazing even if I don’t have time for my makeup, which is perfect for those very busy days.”

Varicose Vein Treatment Offers Multi-Million Savings For Hard-Pressed NHS

As the pressure on the NHS to find efficiency savings increases, several trusts are looking to adopt a pioneering approach to varicose vein treatment that saves resources, while improving patient outcomes.

If adopted by all hospitals, The VNUS Closure procedure for the treatment of varicose veins, endorsed by the NHS National Innovation Centre, could save the health service around £17million.

The major benefits for the NHS lie in the fact that this procedure is much less resource-intensive than surgery. Conventional varicose vein stripping is a common operation, and one that takes up a great deal of operating theatre time.

The VNUS Closure procedure, however, can be carried-out in a treatment room, freeing up surgical theatres, enabling the NHS to treat other serious conditions more quickly and so reduce waiting-times.

It is said that as many as one in three adults in the UK suffers from venous reflux or varicose veins at some point in their life, and varicose vein treatment is one of the most common hospital procedures.

Almost 90,000 varicose vein operations were carried-out by the NHS in 2005-06, while approximately 20,000 similar operations were conducted privately, producing a total of around 110,000 procedures per year.

As long ago as 1999, a study conducted by the University of Edinburgh, put the total cost to the NHS at between £400m and £600m.

It is difficult to compare accurately the direct costs of conventional surgery and VNUS Closure. However, as the procedure is carried out under local anaesthetic without an overnight stay, and performed with minimal staff in a simple treatment room, this technique offers significant benefits for the NHS.

Cost savings are estimated to be between £40 and £450 per patient, depending on whether or not the patient requires an overnight stay.

The VNUS Closure is also expected to bring benefits to the wider economy, with patients being able to return to work almost immediately after their procedure with little or no pain.

Pioneering Varicose Vein Treatment Gets Patients Back On Their Feet In No Time

Varicose veins can be painful and unsightly, with treatment often meaning surgery under general anaesthetic and a long recovery period.

While the traditional surgical approach has meant painful vein stripping, many UK hospitals now offer minimally invasive catheter technology that enables even severe varicose veins to be successfully treated in an outpatient setting, under a local anaesthetic.

Taking just a few minutes, a device is inserted into the diseased vein, where a catheter or fibre delivers either radio frequency or laser energy to heat and seal the vessel. The technique is extremely successful and far less painful and traumatic to the patient than vein stripping.

Endovenous laser (EVL) devices utilise an optical fibre to deliver extremely high levels of heat – over 700 degrees centigrade – that boils the blood in the vein to create a clotting effect that seals the vein as the device is withdrawn.

Radiofrequency devices operate at far lower temperatures to heat and shrink the vein walls, limiting the impact on surrounding tissues and, according to a clinical study, causing significantly less pain and bruising than laser.

Vascular surgeons using the VNUS® ClosureFAST™ catheter, the only radiofrequency device on the market today for the treatment of venous reflux, report that most patients return to normal activity almost immediately following the procedure, with little or no post-operative pain.

Radiofrequency endovenous ablation is a minimally invasive procedure for treating venous reflux disease, using Radiofrequency to heat and seal diseased veins, thereby reducing or eliminating existing varicose veins.

With the VNUS® ClosureFAST™ catheter, radiofrequency energy is delivered through a heating element seven centimetres long, to heat the collagen within the vein walls and cause the shrinkage and collapse of the vessel.

The closure procedure is generally performed using local anaesthesia, typically in a hospital theatre or an outpatient facility.

A ClosureFASTâ„¢ catheter is inserted into the vein through a tiny incision below the knee. Guided by ultrasound imaging, the vascular surgeon treats each 7cm segment of vein with a 20-second burst of radiofrequency energy, causing the vessel to shrink around the catheter.

The vascular surgeon withdraws the catheter, treating each segment until the entire vessel has been sealed. On average, 45cm of vein can be treated in three to five minutes.

In a clinical trial comparing Closure to laser, patients treated with Closure experienced less pain, less bruising and fewer complications, while a
one-year clinical data has shown the ClosureFASTâ„¢ catheter to be more than 97.4% effective in preventing reflux recurrence.
