Narconon Supports Medicine Cabinet Campaign

Prescription drug abuse has become an epidemic across the country. This is particularly evident in the recent news articles and with the deaths of many well known celebrities.

According to the Center for Disease Control’s report entitled “Prescription Drug Overdose,” “since 1999, abuse misuse and overdose of prescription drugs have significantly increased.” The study goes on to say that the number of unintentional overdose deaths from 1995 to 2005 doubled due to increasing deaths from prescription drugs rather than illicit drugs such as heroin and cocaine.

Unfortunately the prescription drug problem has gotten out of hand in many places in the country and as a result has destroyed lives all over the world.

Narconon, a long-term drug and alcohol rehabilitation program that has been in operation since 1964 has seen the devastation that prescription drug abuse has caused to both addicts and families. One thing that Narconon has reported that in the recent years is that they have more clients looking for help for prescriptions than ever before.

Narconon has been able to help many addicts through their successful rehabilitation methods; they’re program achieves a more than 70% success rate for permanent sobriety from addiction. Another thing the group is taking part in, are ways to help prevent prescription drug abuse in the first place. Narconon are doing this through a campaign that is being used all over the world to stop prescription addiction.

The program is a new campaign called “Lock Your Medicine Cabinet.” This is a nationwide campaign used by schools, churches, community groups and even drug rehab centers across the nation.

Many Narconon centers actively participate in the “Lock Your Medicine Cabinet” campaign because it helps raise awareness about the prescription drug epidemic and offers a safe and drug free prevention message that can help anyone.

The result is that less and less people become addicted to prescriptions in the first place. Prescription drug addiction does not have to go unhandled. Contact Narconon today for more information at www.narconon.org. For more information, please see our video: http://www.youtube.com/user/narconon#p/u/4/Ze2L6lMG7gI.

Narconon Vista Bay Contributes To Local Fair

The Narconon drug rehabilitation and education program in Northern California provides free information to children and adults at the Monterey County Fair.

Narconon Vista Bay is not only one of the most successful drug rehabilitation programs in the country, but it is also a dedicated member of the community and offers effective drug prevention activities as well.

Recently staff members from the organization participated in the annual Monterey County Fair from September 1st through the 6th as part of their Recovery Month activities. Each day they helped answer questions about drugs and rehabilitation, offered guidance for people with loved ones who need treatment help, and handed out free drug education booklets to kids.

In the words of one of the Vista Bay staff members who helped out with this community service, “Often people would talk to us about a son in jail or a sister on drugs. Several people in recovery also shared their stories with us. We even had visits from former students who completed the Narconon® program and continue to live drug-free, ethical lives.” He continued to say, “Another great aspect of this for me was the profoundly burning commitment to saving lives and families that I shared with the other staff members here.”

Narconon Vista Bay has three facilities in Northern California, including Watsonville, Placerville and South Lake Tahoe. It is recognized as one of the leading addiction treatment programs in the country.

A recent graduate from the program exclaimed, “After leaving Narconon I have been able to face life and enjoy every minute of it. Since I have a passion for fitness and health I got a job at a gym, where I will become a personal trainer. This will allow me to make enough money to go back to school and work towards a degree in sports medicine. I learned at Narconon that I have confidence in myself and a newfound method of working life in order to be as successful as possible. I have found new sober friends that are good for my recovery, my relationship with my mom is better than ever and I am happier and healthier than I ever have been in my life. I owe it all to the Narconon program.” Please see our video at

Narconon Programs Helping Traumatized Street Children In Latin America

Narconon drug rehabilitation and life skills programs for street children are being delivered in several states in Mexico, Honduras, and other Latin American countries. Street children are usually understood to mean ‘homeless’ –working and sleeping on the streets, out of touch with family. But it also can mean just poor and working the streets, begging, selling whatever, but still sleeping at home.

“Selling whatever they must is the shame of it,” says Clark Carr, president of Narconon International, who has delivered training workshops to drug rehabilitation and social programs across northern and southern Mexico. “One rehab director told me,” he continues angrily, “that he had refused $5000 U.S. from a drug cartel to‘buy 10 children’ from his center so they could ‘work them on the street.’ You think of poor children selling “chicles” gum. Now you can add selling “information” that they overhear from persons in restaurants or wherever the children beg. Or these children are carrying drugs in their little backpacks.”

Worse, many homeless children have to sell their bodies. It makes us shudder to think what they learn to survive. “I met two charming children,” says Carr, “7 and 9 years old, who had been rescued from sleeping in the sewer…because it was safer than the street, they said. One boy still had marks on his forehead from rat bites.”

UNICEF approximates that more than 40 million children live or work the streets in Latin America, escaping from homes where the parents’ divorce or separate. Not so much poor families as where the parents are addicts or in jail. Or where there is physical abuse.

90% of street children are estimated by UNICEF to be addicted to inhalants, especially aromatic glues, shoe glue, paint thinner, gasoline. This can produce irreversible brain damage unless one knows how to reduce the young body’s toxic burden. Narconon of Georgia trained an orphanage in Honduras in the Narconon sauna detoxification protocol of vitamins, minerals, exercise, and repeated sweating in low-heat, dry saunas to cleanse the body. Those children who chronically had fought or run away to get glue to which they were addicted, reported the orphanage, after the sauna sessions were healthier and happier, more friendly with renewed interest in learning.

Many Drug Rehab Approaches, Holistic Drug Rehab Still Most Effective

The medical field is an ever-evolving field with new technologies and breakthroughs occurring at a rapid pace. Continual strides are being made within the addiction treatment field and time and again, research shows that holistic drug rehab is the most effective treatment for those suffering from various types of addiction.

One particular addiction treatment program has become the standard for drug rehabs worldwide. Mountainside Drug Rehab and Alcohol Treatment Center began its quest for improved treatment methodologies over a decade ago. Since then, it has transformed the face of addiction treatment.

“From a purely logical standpoint holistic drug rehab makes the most sense,” begins a spokesperson for Mountainside. “Up until our pioneering research, the alcohol and drug rehab treatment field was utilizing standard addiction treatment modalities. Our hypothesis was pretty simplistic: employ evidence based treatment modalities and provide a variety of different proven modalities to help a person get well. We looked around at different areas in medicine to see the methods that were currently working and then began drawing from those fields to create a program that addresses the complete needs of an individual from the physical issues, to the emotional, social and mental health issues that a person may have. Our success rates have been phenomenal. We have been refining our program to what it is today: our trademarked Integrated Care Model. Although just recently trademarked, our empirical evidence for this treatment model is an evolution of a body of work that spans over a decade. And, we will continually review and further refine our treatment program in the future to insure that we are providing the most optimum addiction treatment options for an individual.”

Global Health Progress Fact Sheet Projects China Will Become One of World’s Major Biopharmaceutical Players

Data revealed in Global Health Progress’ (GHP) new fact sheet shows that China is projected to become one of the world’s major biopharmaceutical players, along with the U.S., Europe, and Japan, in the next fifteen years. This projection is based on China’s commitment to improving access to healthcare by expanding its biotechnology sector, increasing its exportation of biopharmaceuticals and investing in pharmaceutical research and development (R&D).

China has one of the fastest growing economies in the world with a gross domestic product of more than $8 trillion. Its biotechnology sector has become a bright spot in the Asia Pacific region and the world markets, with an impressive average annual growth rate of 19.4% between 2000 and 2005, and is anticipated to become the world’s third-largest pharmaceutical market in 2011, a major increase over its #8 rank in 2000

Part of China’s successful growth is due to its decision to improve access to healthcare by increasing exports of biopharmaceuticals. For example, in 2006 China exported a total of US $890 million in biopharmaceuticals – a 30.61% increase compared with the previous year. China has also become the largest vaccine manufacturing country in the world, capable of producing 41 vaccines to prevent 26 viral diseases, and has become the third country to succeed in large-scale production of genetically engineered insulin.

Additionally, China’s pharmaceutical R&D expenditures are expected to reach US $10 billion or 2% of global spending by the end of 2010. The country is expected to contribute an additional $40+ billion in annual sales by 2013, comparable to the level of increased sales forecast for the US market in the same period.

China’s investment in the biotechnology sector has translated into improvements regarding access to healthcare and the country’s economic growth through creating high-quality, highly skilled jobs. Currently, there are more than 500 biotechnology companies in China with the biopharmaceutical sector employing approximately 50,000 people. Additionally, pharmaceutical R&D is taking the form of multinational biopharmaceutical companies setting up research facilities in biotechnology parks in China, which can drive highly-skilled, high wage job growth and encourage better access to healthcare.

New Study Shows Cortisol Level A Possible Contributor To Alcohol Abuse

New discoveries are giving more hope for those battling addiction to alcohol. A recently published study indicates a correlation between alcohol abuse and the hormone cortisone.

A study published in England by the University of Liverpool indicates that alcoholics may have a higher incidence of elevated cortisol levels than levels present in the general population. Cortisol, a hormone released under stress, seems to not only affect alcoholics but has also been shown to be elevated in individuals suffering from any type of substance abuse addiction.

“Studies like this demonstrate that addiction isn’t just a social and emotional disease but a physiological one as well that requires the help of addiction treatment professionals,” begins a spokesperson for Mountainside Drug Rehab and Alcohol Treatment Center . “Within the treatment field, it is important to understand the epidemiology of addiction so that all aspects of the addiction are treated. If we focus only on the social and emotional aspects of addiction, the chances for recovery are diminished greatly. That’s why discoveries such as these are significant and are important to consider in the treatment of addiction to ensure long-term sobriety. Furthermore, studies such as this encourage more research in the hope of finding the right treatment modalities that can reverse the physiological aspects of addiction and bring so many more onto the road to recovery.”

Not only is cortisol a stress hormone, but it is also responsible for helping to metabolize food through a series of insulin releases. In addition, cortisol is closely connected to insulin resistance, another suspected factor in the list of physiological aspects of addiction.

Since its inception, Mountainside Drug Rehab and Alcohol Treatment Center has been committed to creating ways that will help individuals get and remain sober.

The compassionate, caring treatment team at Mountainside is comprised of licensed and certified counselors and social workers as well as an on-staff Nurse Practitioner and a Registered Nurse, both of whom have specializations and extensive experience in drug addiction and alcohol treatment. For clients who may have psychiatric issues and/or a dual diagnosis, Mountainside provides the services of a Psychiatrist who also has specialization in addictions. As a result of their unique, innovative approaches to addiction treatment over the past 12 years, Mountainside has become the model for the addiction treatment field.

Russia Reveals Renewed Commitment to Expand, Promote Biotechnology Sector

Global Health Progress (GHP) released a new fact sheet highlighting Russia’s commitment to expanding and promoting its biotechnology sector. Although the biopharmaceutical sector in Russia is less developed than other markets, the sector is making progress by implementing public policies that support pharmaceutical research and development (R&D) for life-changing treatments, contribute high-quality, high wage jobs to the region and increase the number of clinical trials offered to the population to improve access to drugs and help reduce the overall burden of disease.

Currently, Russia accounts for approximately 0.5% of the world biotechnology market, two-thirds of which are biopharmaceuticals. In 2010, the value of the biopharmaceutical market in Russia was estimated to be approximately US $17.2 billion, compared with US $10.4 billion in 2006. According to analysts, the Russian market is predicted to expand at a compound annual growth rate of 8.3% over the next few years and approximately 53% of the biopharmaceuticals market in Russia is comprised of innovative medicines.

As part of a national 10-year plan to promote biotechnology, the government is enacting policies to strengthen Russia’s pharmaceutical research and development (R&D) areas that have been historically strong. For example, special economic zones will focus on attracting investors to commercialize biotechnology and related innovations. Additionally, the Russian government is investing in “bioparks,” R&D clusters of biotechnology and related sectors.

Russia is well-known for its highly skilled scientific workforce and the biopharmaceutical sector has emerged as an important source of high-quality, highly skilled jobs. As the presence of biopharmaceutical companies increases, so does the pool of highly skilled doctors, scientists and researchers. According to Burrill & Company, the biopharmaceutical sector currently employs approximately 12,000 people with the average salary for a PhD scientist in Russia approximately US $1,800.

Currently, Russia ranks 12 out of 25 in terms of active clinical trials with 1,084 sites with an average relative annual growth rate of 33%. However, as of February 2010, there were 304 medicines in development in Russia, making the country one of the fastest annual growth rates. The growth in share of global clinical trials can bring health benefits, including the diffusion of medical knowledge and effective medical practice, greater patient access to high quality care and improve access to drugs. Clinical trials can also help reduce the overall burden of disease on the Russian population.

American Academy Of Pediatrics Want Limits Place On Alcohol Ads

In an effort to help curtail drug abuse and alcohol consumption among minors, the American Academy of Pediatrics is launching a campaign to change the way advertisements are allowed to be displayed and distributed.

“It’s clear that advertising is the most effective means of communicating a message,” begins a spokesperson for Mountainside Drug Rehab and Alcohol Treatment Center. “And, the American Academy of Pediatrics is fighting fire with fire, which is exactly what is needed. When advertisers elevate alcohol or other substances not appropriate for minors to a level of glamour, or they imply that there is no fun without the use of such substances, it entices minors to try those products. We know that alcohol abuse is the number one substance abused and is one of the greatest problems in America which results in addiction treatment. Studies have shown that the younger a child is when they experiment with alcohol, the more likely they are to continue that experimentation into illegal, more lethal and highly addictive drugs. Alcohol is recognized to be one of the number one gateways to greater substance abuse. Enacting stricter regulations for advertisers could go a long way in changing the face of alcohol experimentation and abuse among minors.”

It is estimated that advertising may contribute up to 30% in the use of alcohol and tobacco and is especially effective on minors. A recently published study showed that mascots commonly used in alcohol ads were nearly 75% as readily identifiable as Bugs Bunny among fourth graders.

Among the hot points within their campaign, the American Academy of Pediatrics seeks to limit advertisement for alcohol when the audience is made up of more than 10% children. In addition, they are also requesting that the White House Office on Drug Control Policy conduct anti-teen drinking public service campaigns. They are also urging parents to become more involved in what media their children are exposed to and limit unsupervised media use.

Brazil’s Biopharmaceutical Sector Contributes to Economic Growth, Expands Access to Healthcare

Global Health Progress (GHP) released a new report that reveals how the biopharmaceutical sector in Brazil, the tenth largest biopharmaceutical market in the world and the largest in Latin America, is an important driver for its economy. For instance, Brazil’s biopharmaceutical sector develops high-quality, highly skilled jobs, which is a key factor in creating a stable economy. Currently, approximately 821 biotechnology companies in Brazil employ almost 100,000 people with an average annual salary of approximately US $4,457. Among those companies, six biopharmaceutical companies were featured in a 2003 list of the top 100 companies to work for in Brazil.

Not only does the biopharmaceutical sector produce valuable job opportunities for highly skilled workers, this emerging market plays a critical role in fostering public-private partnerships, which leads to more economic growth and greater access to healthcare for its citizens.

Investment in research and development (R&D) and promoting innovation are key ways the Brazilian government is helping drive future growth of the country’s biopharmaceutical sector. For instance, R&D investments in Brazil have increased to 1.5% of GDP in 2010 and there are more than 205 highly trained physicians per 100,000 of the population serving as investigators for clinical studies.

“In Brazil, promoting innovation is a public policy priority,” stated Rafael Oliva, Advisor to the Presidency at the Brazilian Development Bank. “The participation of the Brazilian government in research and development (R&D) is considerable, and the goal is to both increase innovative activities in Brazil on a systematic basis, and to consolidate the country’s culture of innovation.” GHP fact sheet shows how Brazil’s investment in research and development (R&D) will create positive effects throughout the economy, including improving access to healthcare for its citizens through the production of new medicines. The growing field of clinical trials is also a significant factor in improving access to healthcare. Brazil’s large population of 190 million people, with 8 out of every 10 residents living in or near a city, means clinical trial recruitment and participation is fairly robust.

Drug And Alcohol Treatment Is Not Only For The Rich And Famous

According to Treatment-Centers.net, drug and alcohol treatment options affect people across all walks of life. Although some people may associate addictions with the rich and famous, the reality is that this problem is not biased when it comes to selecting its victims. And because of that some groups of individuals have a harder time than others in finding a drug or alcohol treatment center that is right for them. Treatment-Centers.net works to connect those in need with a top quality drug and alcohol rehabilitation center that is also affordable. Affordability is often the missing piece of the puzzle when an individual decides to seek help for a drug or alcohol problem.

September, 2010 – The public benefit service Treatment-Centers.net provides an online directory of centers that offer drug and alcohol treatment. The website also offers resources, a self-assessment and lots of helpful information that friends and family members as well as those addicted are likely to find useful when making decisions about drug or alcohol treatment center options. When addiction strikes most families feel helpless. Learning more about addictions is one way to feel more empowered during this difficult time. The free materials provided at Treatment-Centers.net combine to create a comprehensive alcohol and addiction resource.

Celeb gossip magazines and TV shows that follow celebrities can sometimes give the impression that it is only the rich and famous that have problems with drugs and alcohol. The focus is often on the pressures faced by these individuals due to their fame and the accompanying lifestyle. Paris Hilton being in possession of cocaine and Lindsey Lohan reportedly being addicted to methamphetamine have been recent headlines. While these problems cannot be minimized just because the individuals involved are rich and famous, it does need to be pointed out that being rich has lots of benefits, even when it comes to an addiction.

The stories often neglect to mention the advantages that these individuals have over the ‘typical’ person dealing with an addiction. The rich and famous do not have to be concerned with the cost of the care at any drug or alcohol rehabilitation center they may choose to go to. This is a huge advantage, and it is one that has not gone unnoticed by Treatment-Centers.net.

Financial concerns are sometimes why individuals do not seek the help they need. But that does not have to be the case. Treatment-Centers.net is not directly affiliated with any drug or alcohol treatment center. This means that the website truly exists as a public benefit service. It is designed to help all people suffering with an addiction, whether they have money or not. Treatment-Centers.net provides the largest and most comprehensive directory of treatment centers available. With this directory listing it is a simple process to find a drug and alcohol treatment facility that meets the needs of any individual. The basic listings give general information with contact details. From there more information can be gathered.

Drug Treatments Made Available To Those Who Need It Regardless Of Social Or Financial Status

Treatment-Centers.net offers an innovative approach to connecting addicts with quality centers that can provide the drug treatments needed. This is not dependent upon sources of income or whether or not the individual has insurance. Treatment-Centers.net has the resources available to unite virtually any drug addict with a suitable drug treatment center, all without any difficulty whatsoever.

This is made possible because Treatment-Centers.net works as a sort of conduit to facilitate the process. This public benefit service provides a platform in the form of a massive online directory in which drug rehab facilities can list their drug treatment center. In this way individuals that need help can find drug rehab facilities in their chosen area. The basic listing includes enough information to determine if the center is an option or not. More information can be gathered if there is an interest in the facility and the search can eventually be narrowed down until the ideal center is found.

Besides offering a simple but extensive directory the website at Treatment-Centers.net also provides resources and other useful information that can assist in guiding individuals at a time when they are likely feeling stressed and out of sorts. This includes information about addiction intervention and how to handle that difficult and uncomfortable situation.

It is often a family member of the addict that seeks help for an addiction and this can be a tremendous burden. Having reliable information available can make the process easier. The site is an ideal place to gather information about specific addictions, various drug treatments, or even how to determine if an addiction intervention is necessary. The site also offers a confidential online assessment that can help determine an individual’s specific needs.

Because this online public benefit service is inherently discreet it is the perfect way to explore drug treatment options. The anonymity afforded by the use of the computer makes many people feel free to gather more information than they would using other methods. This in turn can result in more people getting the help they need sooner. Treatment-Centers.net continues to add resources and information at the site, making it easier for more people to educate themselves and get the help they need.

Non-corneal Tonometry Glaucoma Eye Test Independent of Central Corneal Thickness (CCT) and Biometric Properties Featured at ESCRS, Paris France

Unique non-corneal Tonometer Diaton, which allows to measure intraocular pressure (IOP) through the eyelid and sclera, unlike others that obtain IOP through cornea was featured at The European Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons ESCRS meeting in Paris, France.

Unique non-corneal Tonometer Diaton, which allows to measure intraocular pressure (IOP) through the eyelid and sclera, unlike others that obtain IOP through cornea was featured at The European Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons ESCRS.

Diaton tonometry is a unique approach of measuring intraocular pressure without touching the surface of the eye, takes tonometry reading over the upper eyelid and over the sclera. This revolutionary tonometry method allows physicians to obtain intraocular pressure without influence of central corneal thickness (CCT) and other known and unknown biometric properties and parameters of the cornea.

Unlike Goldmann tonometry which is based on the Imbert–Fick law and is effected by CCT and other corneal parameters and corneal diseases, where small area of the membrane is flattened to measure pressure of the internal fluid. Evidence shows that variations in CCT may greatly influence Goldmann tonometry reading. Parameters such as membrane elasticity, rigidity and other biomechanical properties can influence the accuracy of the intraocular pressure readings.

Diaton tonometry solves most of the corneal issues by implementing Newton ‘s Second Law and a Ballistic principle to obtain IOP. Readings with Diaton Tonometer are taken over the upper eyelid, at the tarsus and over the sclera, not the cornea.

Recent clinical study “Comparison of Accuracy of Diaton Transpalpebral Tonometer Versus Goldmann Applanation Tonometer, Dynamic Contour Tonometer and Ocular Response Analyzer “ concluded: “Transpalpebral Tonometry is an accurate method of IOP measurement that is also independent from the biomechanical characteristics of cornea. It can be recommended for IOP measurements of patients diagnosed with glaucoma including those cases where cornea pathology or cornea characteristics have been altered”.

New England Drug Rehab Offers Supports To Individuals Who Aren’t Previous Clients

History has shown that in times of economic crisis, individuals’ problems with drugs and alcohol skyrockets. As such, there is a growing need for therapeutic support of these individuals.

As economic times toughen, the response to stress for those at-risk tends to be the use of a substance that distorts their current reality. Relapses from past alcohol and/or drug abuse during these times are always at an all-time high compared to times of economic growth.

A New England addiction treatment facility has expanded its Drug Relapse Program to help individuals to maintain their sobriety during these difficult times.

“Our commitment has always been to help individuals live a sober-free life, regardless of what his or her previous addiction treatment associations are,” begins a spokesperson for Mountainside Drug Rehab and Alcohol Treatment Center in Canaan , Connecticut . “To that end, our Drug Relapse Program has expanded, offering treatment options for those who feel that they are at a risk of succumbing to the use of alcohol and/or drugs. We’ve found that during this time many recovering addicts and alcoholics need additional support and guidance to help solidify the core principles that they have utilized thus far in their journey to recovery. Our Drug Relapse Program participants range from those with 90 days of sobriety to upwards of 5 years of sobriety. The individuals who have longer times of sobriety are proof that addiction is, literally, achievable and is a lifelong struggle; it is one that we are committed to helping people achieve.”

Statistics show that 2/3 of all relapses for addiction are likely to occur within the first 90 days, without respect to the particular addiction. The first 90 days of sobriety are among the toughest as the physical withdrawals are still present and manifest themselves in poor memory and concentration or as an increased response to stress, all of which can cause a sudden relapse.

Removing Intellectual Property Rights Will Only Worsen Africa’s Healthcare Crisis

In recent commentary in the Wall Street Journal, Alec van Gelder, Project Director at the International Policy Network wrote that strong intellectual property rights are critical to strengthening Africa’s health care system. He criticized statements by the Head of the World Health Organization Essential Medicines Program, Hans Hogerzeil. Hoberzeil wrote that “Big Pharma” and intellectual property rights are preventing the world’s poorest countries from receiving access to healthcare. Contradicting these assertions, van Gelder pointed out that the region’s lack of health infrastructure and the diversion of aid money are the real culprits behind the crisis.

“Drug companies do make easy targets but that doesn’t make them villains,” said van Gelder, “The life-saving treatments they create remain Africa’s best hope. The misguided battle against pharmaceutical companies’ patent rights will only make Africa’s health crisis worse.”

van Gelder notes that the growing field of public-private partnerships have resulted in a twelve-fold increase in patients receiving treatment over the last decade and have created a program of voluntary patent licenses for lower-cost “generics” manufacturers. Furthermore, fewer than 5% of WHO’s 423 Essential Medicines are currently protected by patents and these are mostly advanced “second-line” anti-AIDS medicines.

Global Health Progress (GHP) is actively supporting public-private partnerships to help address the need for access to medicines. Strong patent protection and intellectual property rights are critical components of these efforts to treat the public health challenges that the world’s poorest countries face. As van Gelder aptly points out, “Trampling over intellectual property rights removes drug companies’ incentives to invest billions of dollars in the development of the next generation” of much-needed and sought after drugs.

Rather, GHP supports the continued development of public-private partnerships, research and development and protection for intellectual property rights. These policies ensure that developing countries continue to have drugs available at reasonable costs, that pharmaceutical companies continue to embrace innovations and that all organizations can work together to improve healthcare infrastructure worldwide.

Each graduation ends off with a special acknowledgement for those who have completed the full Narconon® program, giving them a chance to share their successes as well as reuniting them with their families.

For the graduates themselves, it marks the end of a difficult time in their lives that they are now leaving in the past with confidence and determination that they will finally be free from the grips of addiction. The mixture of excitement and a bit of nervousness about the future they will now be creating can be tough for someone to comprehend without having lived through it. However, the shame, guilt and regret are all now gone and replaced with relief and an eagerness to live.

As one graduate puts it, “I feel brand new, like a kid again. I have a whole new outlook on life that is filled with happiness and ambition, and I can’t thank my family enough for helping me get to Narconon.”

For family members, it is a moment of hope, pride and joy. It’s impossible not to cry when you see in parents’ eyes that they finally have their son or daughter back, or when young children run up to their mommy or daddy to hug and kiss them sober for the first time in years. Words can’t really describe the feeling.

“This is why we’re here,” remarks a Narconon staff member at a recent graduation.“It never gets old seeing that,” he says, trying to hold back the teardrops that welled up in his eyes from rolling down his cheeks. But, with hardly a dry eye in the room, it’s nearly impossible to do.

Three more graduation ceremonies like this will happen at dozens of Narconon centers in the United States and around the world during the rest of National Alcohol and Drug Addiction Recovery Month. They will continue to happen every Friday after that, just as they have for decades prior to this particular evening. Narconon Addresses Need For Drug-Free Rehabilitation

Los Angeles, CA – It doesn’t take much searching on the Internet to find stories about the devastation being caused by prescription drug addiction today. According to the latest National Survey on Drug Use and Health (NSDUH) there are about 6.2 million Americans who are current non-medical users of prescription drugs, many of whom are addicted.

The above statistic shows that despite any medicinal value, many drugs today have a high potential for abuse and all of them have additional side effects. So, when addicts turn to a treatment center for help, prescribing more drugs to them can be detrimental to their recovery. This is one of the reasons why the Narconon program is drug-free.

The program was founded in 1966 by a former heroin addict named William Benitez and has not used any type of drug replacement therapy since its inception. Based on research and developments by the late American author and humanitarian L. Ron Hubbard, Narconon incorporates other therapies to help ease withdrawal symptoms, removed stored toxins from the body and rebuild natural health.

Narconon has a recovery rate of more than 70% that has been well documented and its results have fueled worldwide growth to now include over 140 groups and centers in more than 40 countries.

“We have found that more and more people are searching for alternative programs that do not subscribe to the disease concept or give more drugs to addicts,” comments Narconon International Executive Sue Birkenshaw, “An increasing number of individuals and family members want to be able to put addictive substances behind them forever, and that is what Narconon offers.”

With National Alcohol and Drug Addiction Recovery Month just around the corner in September, this message resonates with many people who have regained control over their lives through Narconon after trying programs that used various types of replacement drugs and pharmacotherapies. Drug-free programs are becoming more mainstream in the light of the prescription drug epidemic our country faces. Narconon Joins Recovery Month Celebrations

(Los Angeles, CA) – Now in it’s 21st year, the theme for this year’s National Recovery Month is “Now More than Ever,” and Narconon centers coast to coast are gearing up for the annual celebration along with other treatment programs and recovery advocates across America.

The Narconon drug rehabilitation and education program was founded more than four decades ago and now has at least 16 residential and outpatient treatment facilities in the United States and Canada alone, with dozens more worldwide. Again this year thousands of Narconon staff members, program participants, alumni, family members and supporters will continue their observance of Recovery Month with its recurring theme that permanent recovery from addiction is not only possible, but happens every day in its centers.

Past events have included community sponsorships and anniversary celebrations, educational presentations, radio shows talking about recovery, public service announcements for print and broadcast media and even a live webcast of a graduation ceremony.

One of the topics this year has been the devastation caused by the skyrocketing prescription drug addiction problems throughout America. From painkillers to tranquilizers and amphetamines, the latest surge in substance abuse has opened the eyes of millions of people. Showing that dependency and addiction can affect anyone, including unsuspecting patients taking such medications.

Narconon programs are one of the few programs in the country that does not prescribe more drugs to addicts seeking treatment, and it’s drug-free rehabilitation approach achieves a success rate of better than 70%. The program was was founded by William Benitez and is based on the research and developments of the late American author and humanitarian L. Ron Hubbard. Narconon Arrowhead Works With Community For Recovery Month

(Canadian, OK) – Narconon Arrowhead believes that their role in fighting the drug problem is more than just effective rehabilitation services. They also provide drug education and prevention as well as work with other community leaders to improve living conditions in the area.

Recently they participated in an effort to revive an old theater nearby with the Pride in McAlester group, where several staff members assisted in cleaning it up the OKLA Theater along with people from Westwood Construction, Hope House and Interior Resources. It was just one of many community events the organization has participated in this year.

In addition to providing drug prevention for tens of thousands of students throughout the state of Oklahoma and surrounding areas, Narconon Arrowhead has also been working with local businesses to offer drug education in the workplace, and was named the business of the month for the McAlester Area Chamber of Commerce.

A manager at a local plant that received a workplace seminar reported, “Our staff has learned so much more than we may have anticipated learning or had already known about the affects of substance and alcohol use both in and out of the workplace. We have learned to recognize key factors and circumstances that drive people to substance abuse and why people continue of this path of destruction…I recommend the training that Narconon provides to area businesses as a means to strengthen their organizations.”

Additional community involvement continues throughout National Recovery month and heading into Red Ribbon Week in October, where Narconon Arrowhead is one of the active members in the “Take Back McAlester” campaign, culminating in a 10K run that supports the arts and humanities. Positive activities such as these help reduce substance abuse among youth and adults and those with the Narconon program believe they are essential to the enrichment of a community.
