Dare To Bare – Confidence Is The Number One Reason Irish Women Cite For Having Cosmetic Surgery

The Harley Medical Group can confirm that confidence is the number one reason people cite as the reason for having a surgical procedure. People want to wear and bare but confidence is the key internal emotion that manifests in our behaviour.

Speaking about this Liz Dale, director of The Harley Medical Group said: “We see a large number of clients every day when asked why the client wants to have a procedure done the number one reason cited is confidence.

“When we are not confident/happy about certain elements of our physical features (and women win hands down in this area), we tend to ‘cover up’ with make-up, clothing or we become hermits. When we are happy we let the whole world see!

“However there are lots of myths around cosmetic surgery. 95% of people only have one procedure that they have been thinking about for several years.”

The following are 8 common myths about cosmetic surgery:

8.
MYTH: Having cosmetic surgery is like redecorating your house, once you’ve done one room, you move onto the next i.e. once you’ve had a nose job for example, you’ll have breast enlargement surgery next.

FACT: 95% of patients will only have one procedure that they’ve been thinking about for several years. It’s a confidence thing with many people.

7.
MYTH: Women who have boob jobs want to look like Jordan.

FACT: Most women only go up by one or two cup sizes and the average size is a C cup. Women also now want a more natural look and so opt for a tear-drop shaped breast implant rather than the traditional round high contour.

6.
MYTH: Cosmetic surgery is now so commonplace; most people view it as a beauty treatment and book it in for the next week.

FACT: Research shows that on average patients think about their surgery for two to three years.

5.
MYTH: More men are now having cosmetic surgery than women!

FACT: There’s been a huge growth in men having surgery, but they still only make up 20% of patients, according to The Harley Medical Group.

4.
MYTH: If you’re standing in the supermarket queue, chances are someone in that queue has had cosmetic surgery of some sort.

FACT: Only about 5% of the population has had surgery.*

3.
MYTH: Most people go abroad for surgery because it’s cheaper.

FACT: Many people feel uncomfortable about travelling so far away from home when having a major operation and feel it’s more risky.

2.
MYTH: You’ll only meet sales people when you go to a big cosmetic surgery provider.

FACT: Reputable providers only use medically trained staff. Patients should always meet with a medically trained professional nurse counsellor to discuss their procedure and will always meet their surgeon before the operation.

1.
MYTH: The cosmetic surgery industry will be one of the first things to be hit by a credit crunch as it’s a vanity led industry and not essential.

FACT: Most patients think about and plan for their surgery for many years they’re then unlikely to want to put it off and instead consider it an investment.

The Harley Medical Group is currently reporting a 35% increase in demand for cosmetic surgery, defying the credit crunch.

The Harley Medical Group Sees Steady Increase In Breast Reduction Procedures

The Harley Medical Group reports that it has seen a steady increase in breast reduction procedures in the UK. With breast surgery still top of the ops in the cosmetic surgery field, wanting to appear slimmer is an increasingly common motivator for women having breast reductions. A smaller looking frame helps towards the perception of an individual looking slimmer.

Lisa Littlehales, Specialist Nurse Councillor at The Harley Medical Group said: “We are seeing an increase in the current female generation opting for breast reductions. The average dress size for women these days is a 16 and many women have at least a size D bust. By decreasing chest size it helps women to look and feel thinner and also helps them in their quest to get fit and lose weight. Large breasts can cause back and neck troubles and also restricts women when trying to exercise – oversized and heavy breasts can be a huge inconvenience on women’s lives.”

Katherine Richards, breast reduction case study at The Harley Medical Group commented: “I suffered from terrible back and neck problems due to the sheer weight of my size H breasts. It was awful because a real passion of mine was running but I would have to wear two extra supportive sports bras and would often feel embarrassed when going to the gym. Since having surgery a weight has literally been lifted – I am now a manageable D-cup which makes running much more comfortable. I also have the confidence to wear a bikini on the beach which I could never ever do before.”

Breast reduction surgery usually takes three hours to complete, depending on the size of the breasts. The operation is carried out under general anaesthetic, and patients stay in hospital for one to two nights. Breast reduction patients are required to wear a supportive bra for up to three months following surgery to keep the breasts well supported whilst healing takes place and ensure the best possible results.

The Harley Medical Group Reports Boom In Pre-Wedding Breast Enlargement

The Harley Medical Group has reported that, with the wedding season at its peak, there has also been a corresponding significant rise in breast augmentation surgery.

Determined to look perfect on their big day, brides are taking the plunge and booking in for a boob job for additional confidence on their big day. As a result, breast enlargement is top of the ops this summer across the Group’s 30 clinics in the UK and Ireland.

Liz Dale, Director, The Harley Medical Group, commented, “The big wedding is certainly in vogue in 2010, so pre-wedding procedures are right back on the agenda, with the lucky couples determined to have a picture perfect record of their special day.

“With the average wedding costing nearly £20,000, patients see cosmetic procedures as a long term investment, with the effects of plastic surgery lasting well beyond the big day itself. The average pre-nup nip budget is around £4,000 and is favoured by those plumping for long engagements – we recommend patients allow a good four to six months recovery time to ensure the best results on their wedding day.”

Lisa Littlehales, Nurse Counsellor and Clinic Manager at The Harley Medical Group commented, “The split of brides to grooms having pre-wedding surgery is around 75% to 25%. For women their figure is definitely the focus – it is all about the dress, after all. The men we see are frequently looking to correct a sporting injury, so things like having rhinoplasty on a broken nose.”

A Perfect Pout Peels Back the Years

From studying the faces of over 250 women, including sets of twins, analysts’s found that even if a woman’s skin gains wrinkles, eye bags and sagging jowels, having a fuller set of lips can take years off of your face.

Seductive lips are one of the strongest signals of a woman’s sexual and youthful allure, with Angelina Jolie’s enviable pout voted as the most desirable in the world.

Sadly, scientists have discovered that there is little women can do naturally to keep the youthful appearance of their lips. Thanks mainly to genetics pouts start getting thinner between the age of 30 and 40.

The Hospital Group, the UK’s leading cosmetic surgery provider, performs many age-defying treatments at its clinics including non surgical dermal fillers which can create a subtle, more youthful pout.

As well as non-surgical procedures, The Hospital Group performs other anti-ageing surgical treatments such as face and brow lifts. Other plastic surgery procedures offered include eyebag removal, eye-lid surgery, rhinoplasty, otoplasty and breast uplifts.

Since The Hospital Group was established in 1992, it has risen to become the UK’s biggest weight loss surgery provider, performing more gastric procedures last year than the NHS. The Hospital Group is committed to providing the very highest standards and all procedures are performed by an expert medical team in state-of-the-art facilities that are second to none.

2010 Sees a Rise in Plastic Surgery Enquiries

Last decade saw the continuous rise in the number of people having cosmetic surgery; from cosmetic dentistry and breast augmentation to gastric bands, increasing numbers of men and women are turning to cosmetic procedures to improve their looks.

According to the British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons (BAAPS) the numbers of people choosing to have surgery over the last five years has rocketed by 320 percent and the new decade is not expecting the trend to slow.

Experts have predicted that the recovering economy will likely see an increase in people opting for minimally invasive non surgical solutions and later saving up for procedures such as face lifts, as patients are better able to finance their surgery. Also, the increase in obesity means a rise in weight loss surgery for 2010, with more obese people opting to go under the knife.

David Ross, Chief Executive of The Hospital Group, comments: “We have seen nearly a 40 percent rise in post-Christmas cosmetic surgery enquires going into 2010 from the previous year. Moving into the new decade people want to look as good as they feel, and are willing to invest in improving their quality of life.”

The Hospital Group, one of the UK’s foremost cosmetic surgery providers and the biggest provider of gastric surgery, perform a wide range of both surgical and non surgical treatments which can help to make men and women to look younger.

For quick results, they offer anti wrinkle treatments, BOTOX®, facial fillers, chemical peels and teeth whitening and more in 19 clinics across the UK and Ireland.

For longer term results involving surgery, face lifts, rhinoplasty, liposuction and an extensive range of breast surgery procedures are just some of the treatments on offer at the exclusive Bromsgrove clinic.

Since The Hospital Group was established in 1992, it has grown from a small pharmaceutical company to one of the UK’s foremost plastic surgery providers. The Group is committed to providing the very highest standards and all procedures are performed by an expert medical team in state-of-the-art facilities that are second to none

Men and their Nose Jobs

The Hospital Group has reported that the most common cosmetic procedure performed on men is a rhinoplasty. More nose jobs were performed on male clients during 2009 than any other procedure.

The fact is everyone can be self-conscious about a particular aspect of their appearance and many people are unhappy with the shape of their nose. It may have a hump, be too long or wide and in addition, there are sometimes problems that contribute to breathing difficulties. A procedure called a Rhinoplasty could help and it is a very popular choice for those that want to improve their most prominent facial feature.

A spokesperson for The Hospital Group, said: “Rhinoplasty has always been the most popular male procedure and we can see this to continue to be the case over the years to come. It is a part of their body which they simply cannot hide.”

A Rhinoplasty could provide significant enhancement to the appearance of the nose for both men and women. It can alter the balance and proportions of the whole face, giving a dramatic improvement to how you look and feel.

The Hospital Group is one of the UK’s leading providers of Cosmetic Surgery, number one in Obesity Surgery and Gastric Band experts. So whatever your requirements, you’re in safe hands!

Optical Express Is Currently Launching Its First Television Advertising Campaign Highlighting Its Cosmetic Surgery Brand, The Cosmetic Clinic

The advertisement – a 30 second television ad – was created in an effort to put the brand, as well as the Bridgewater Hospital, on the map, and to let the residents of Manchester know that they have a state-of-the-art hospital at their doorstep.

The advertisement features a series of women in their daily routines; shopping, swimming, and sitting down for drinks with friends. The theme is body confidence and feeling good about yourself, which is the message the company wants to promote with regards to The Cosmetic Clinic, and which fits with the motto of the clinic: Your body, your choice.

Bridgewater Hospital, where The Cosmetic Clinic is based, is a custom-built private medical hospital hailed for its advanced technologies, some of which are unique in the UK. The cosmetic surgery hospital ward consists of private cubicles to ensure privacy for patients, all centrally located around a nurses’ station. The hospital’s diagnostic suite is fully digitised for immediate transmission of information, and equipped with the latest diagnostic radiology equipment.

Each of the three operating theatres has been created to meet extremely high air quality specifications as to avoid airborne infections, and a closely observed recovery area has been created so that patients can be monitored as they wake up from their anaesthetic.

The Cosmetic Clinic offers a full range of procedures, from breast enlargement, reduction and uplift, to liposuction, tummy tucks, and rhinoplasty. Though the current advertisement targets women, The Cosmetic Clinic offers procedures for both men and women. The Harley Medical Group, The UK’s Largest Cosmetic Surgery Provider, Has Released Its Performance Figures Covering The 12 Months Up To The End Of June 2009, Which Shows An Overall Growth Of 4% Over The Previous Year

The period covered by the report has proved to be a busy time for The Harley Medical Group, which achieved increases in both its cosmetic surgery provision and a notable uplift in its non-surgical divisions, with the group’s clinics in Cardiff, Newcastle and Southampton performing particularly well.

The Harley Medical Group

While breast enlargement remained the most requested surgical procedure across The Harley Medical Group’s 26 clinics, abdominoplasty surgery saw the biggest growth across the financial year (up 23%), followed by rhinoplasty which increased by 15% and liposuction (13%).

The non-surgical division has also been rapidly expanding and now accounts for 29% of Group revenue (up from 27% a year ago), with facial peels showing the biggest treatment uplift, up 171% year on year.

To help deal with the increase in the number of requests, The Harley Medical Group opened six new clinics throughout the year, with new branches launched in Maidstone, Cambridge, Reading, Sheffield, Liverpool and Manchester. The next clinic is due to be opened in Glasgow this September, giving the group a total of 27 clinics, although Chairman Mel Braham intends to quickly grow the estate, with the target set at 90 clinics across the UK and Ireland.

Mel Braham commented, “Per capita, people are five times more likely to have cosmetic surgery in the US so there’s a huge market potential still remaining in the UK. Despite the recession we’re seeing increases in surgical and non-surgical procedures at our existing clinics and that’s why we’ve committed to an expansion programme.”

Three new revolutionary treatments are also due to be released exclusively through The Harley Medical Group in 2009, including the first and currently only, FDA approved treatment for successfully reducing and removing stretch marks, a problem that afflicts nearly 90% of all women over the age of 25.

Men’s Careers Push Them Into Surgery

The Harley Medical Group has reported that UK men are becoming more preoccupied with their appearance, especially within four key career areas. The increase in awareness and anxiety amongst men that their bodies may not look their best, has been met with an explosion in the number of slang terms for unwanted areas of the male body, along with rise in the number of operations to remove them.

The cosmetic surgery operation to reduce male breast tissue, or ‘moobs’, is now relatively commonplace, but the removal of ‘Simon Cowells’ (modern day rhyming slang for jowls), and the removal of ‘mandles’ (male love handles) are also becoming more popular than ever.

The demand for male cosmetic surgery is in part being driven by long working hours and work stress, according to the UK’s largest cosmetic surgery provider, The Harley Medical Group. An audit of the most common career choices amongst the UK’s burgeoning male cosmetic surgery market revealed that some punishing careers appear to be taking their toll on British males, who are now seeking the help of the UK’s leading surgeons to turn back the clock.

The audit was carried out by The Harley Medical Group, which has carried out more than 55,000 procedures on British males and showed a recent 26% year-on-year increase in male surgery. The audit also revealed that male patients over the last 12 months are predominantly from four career areas:

Bankers and city workers
Civil Service
Politics, Public affairs and local councils
Professional Services – legal and accountancy

Mr Frati, Surgeon, The Harley Medical Group commented, “The bad diets, punishing hours and stress that often goes hand in hand with these types of professions make men prime candidates for premature aging. We’re not surprised to see a trend emerge for professions most likely to opt for surgery as the side-effects of a punishing job can cause the loss of skin elasticity and encourage build up of stubborn fat in key areas.”

Liposuction on ‘mandles’ and ‘moobs’, face lifts including mini-face lifts to improve the jowls, or ‘Simon Cowells’, are amongst the most popular male procedures in 2009. Rhinoplasty and Otoplasty are also proving popular; particularly amongst male cosmetic surgery patients aged 25-35, and ‘Boytox’ (Botox for men) – continues to be very popular, up 12% year-on-year.

Liz Dale, Director of The Harley Medical Group, commented, “There is no doubt that in some areas, men are feeling more under pressure to look the part as the work place becomes increasingly competitive.”

All patients considering cosmetic surgery should ensure that their surgeon is trained and registered in the GMC Specialist Register as a Plastic Surgeon and ensure that their first consultation is carried out by a medical professional. All consultations at The Harley Medical Group are carried out by a fully qualified Cosmetic Surgery Nurse Counsellor. The Harley Medical Group has been established for 25 years and has 26 clinics in the UK.
