VNUS Closure Procedure to save NHS ‘millions’

As the NHS faces budget restrictions, a non-surgical treatment for varicose veins (http://www.vnus.co.uk) has the potential to save the NHS millions of pounds.

Government ministers have promised that frontline services will be protected from cuts, but the NHS Confederation believes that this is unlikely to be achieved given the scale of the savings needed.

It estimates that the health service will have to make savings of £20bn over the next four years, as demand for healthcare continues to grow but increases in funding come to an end.

It is estimated that the VNUS Closure Procedure could potentially save the NHS £17 million, while helping 7,000 patients avoid further treatment due to failed alternative methods.

“This procedure has enabled many NHS Trusts throughout the country to take a very common operation out of the operating theatre and into treatment rooms, helping to free-up theatres for other cases,” said, Michael Branagan-Harris, Group Manager for NHS Medical Device Market Access For Innovative Medical Devices.

The VNUS Closure Procedure involves a hospital stay of just a couple of hours, treatment under local, rather than general anaesthetic, and a much faster recovery time.

Most patients undergoing a VNUS procedure walk out of the treatment room unaided and are usually able to return home and resume work within a day, with little or no pain.

For the NHS, the procedure is also much less resource-intensive than surgery. Conventional varicose vein stripping is a common operation, taking-up a great deal of operating theatre time.

For same costs, a further 25,000 patients could be treated earlier and avoid pain, or discomfort.

As the VNUS Closure procedure can be carried-out in a treatment room, it has the potential to free-up theatre-time, enabling the NHS to treat other serious conditions more quickly and so reduce waiting-times.

What You Should Know About Botox

Botox is a brand name for a muscle relaxant made from botulism toxin. When it is injected into the skin it can relax the muscles and help get rid of wrinkles and other effects of aging.

When it is administered by a medical professional Botox is safe and effective. It is not a permanent solution but it can temporarily improve your appearance. You will have to come back for future treatments to keep the results.

You must always get botox injections from a dermatologist or cosmetic surgeon because it is a powerful medicine. You should have yourself examined by a doctor before gettingbotox in Atlanta because there can be side effects. These can usually avoided by consulting a dermatologist or cosmetic surgeon before the procedure.

Contrary to popular belief botox is not a poison but it can be dangerous in the long hands. You should never inject yourself with it, or use any product that claims to contain it. Instead you should seek botox in Atlanta from a cosmetic surgeon or dermatologist.

Something else to know is that improperly administered botox injections may not be effective. You could end up submitting yourself to a painful procedure and spend good money and not receive the proper results. Therefore you need to find a board certified cosmetic surgeon to administer the injections.

Make sure the botox is being administered by trained medical professionals who are under the supervision of a board certified cosmetic surgeon or dermatologist. Also make sure that the doctor in charge examines you before you get the injections.

It is also a good idea to ask the physician what alternatives are available. Cosmetic surgery is advancing rapidly and new more effective procedures are being developed all the time. There might be permanent solutions available that you are unaware of.

Liberate Reveals 25% Of Women First Consider Plastic Surgery Between The Ages Of 10 And 15

Liberate Cosmetic Surgery has discovered that 25% of women that it surveyed started to first consider cosmetic surgery between the ages of 10-15 years-old.

liberate.jpg (194×76)

The 3000 British women between 18 and 30 years-old who took part in the research were asked at what age they first considered cosmetic surgery, to which 25% of women answered between the ages of 10-15 years-old. 33% also answered that they had considered cosmetic surgery between the ages of 15-18 years-old.

Liberate Cosmetic Surgery views this as quite an interesting yet shocking statistic, as it shows a large number of people may be considering plastic surgery from a very young age.

Mr Paul Banwell, consultant plastic surgeon at Liberate commented: “There is no doubt that more and more younger people are considering cosmetic surgery and breast augmentation still remains the number 1 procedure. However, the statistics regarding the age at which women are first considering surgery is quite shocking.”

The research was conducted by One Poll in February 2011; surveying 3000 British women aged 18 – 30 regarding their feelings about their appearance and their attitudes towards cosmetic surgery. It wanted to explore issues young women face surrounding cosmetic surgery, look at current trends and find out what young women know and don’t know about surgery.

Liberate Reveals Almost Half Of Women Teased About Their Looks Consider Cosmetic Surgery

Liberate, the new cosmetic surgery group, has been completing some public research around some shocking topics, with the most notable revealing that almost half of the women consulted who were bullied at school have considered cosmetic surgery in order to ‘fix’ themselves.

The 3000 British women between 18 and 30 years-old who took part in the research were asked if they had ever been bullied, teased or targeted about their appearance, to which 47.45% answered yes and 52.57% answered no. Out of the women who answered yes to the first question, 43.5% of them said they would consider cosmetic surgery to fix the problem.

These results from the Liberate public research show that at some point around half of the women surveyed were bullied, and around half of these women would consider getting cosmetic surgery because they believe this would ‘fix’ the issue which was causing them to be bullied in the first place.

Liberate believes this is a shocking statistic, as people who are being bullied should be equipped with the proper tools to deal with it financially, physically and psychologically instead of opting for cosmetic surgery without making an informed and responsible choice.

The research was conducted by One Poll in February 2011 in order to record women’s feeling about their appearance and their attitudes towards to cosmetic surgery. Liberate wanted to explore issues young women face surrounding cosmetic surgery, look at current trends and find out what young women know and don’t know about surgery.

Men Get Beach Buff For Summer With Cosmetic Treatments At The Harley Medical Group

With images of Simon Cowell’s styled hairy chest appearing on Britain’s Got Talent, The Harley Medical Group have reported that laser hair removal amongst men is as popular as ever, up 35 per cent year-on-year, but with a twist – to shape, rather than shed chest hair.

Following in the footsteps of the bikini line, for which women have coined traditional styles such as the ‘Hollywood’, ‘Brazilian’ and the ‘Playboy’, nurses across the Group’s 31 clinics have noticed that men have likewise developed three distinct styles for their chest hair. Most popular is the ‘Bond’, neatening up the edges of a full chest of hair; followed by the upside down triangle style dubbed the‘Cowell’; and the pecks-only look, named the ‘Superman’.

Says Stuart Hogben, laser hair removal patient at The Harley Medical Group: “I have a full chest of hair which is hard to maintain. I wanted to neaten it up, without getting rid of it all. After seeing pictures of Simon Cowell I decided to book in for laser hair removal at The Harley Medical Group, to achieve a similar look in time for my summer holiday. I’m thrilled with the results, it looks great and I’m looking forward to feeling confident on the beach.”

Says Lisa Littlehales, specialist nurse counsellor at The Harley Medical Group: “The lead up to summer is a popular time for men to book in for treatments. Like women, they are conscious of wanting to feel confident on the beach and are keen to eliminate any body issues. Laser Hair Removal is especially popular this year and in addition to those men that want to permanently remove all the body hair from their chests and backs, clinics have been surprised about the new requests to style the shape of the chest hair, in a similar way to the different styles of a bikini line.”

Other popular ‘beach buffing’ treatments for men in the build up to summer include: gynecomastia, up 28 per cent in the first five months of the year; liposuction, up 19 per cent; abdominoplasty, up 12 per cent; and laser treatment for stretch marks and scars, which is up 589 per cent year-on-year.

Littlehales continues: “Although stretch marks are often primarily associated with women, just as many men suffer from them. Men commonly get stretch marks on their lower backs, shoulders and arms, all areas that are on display on the beach. The laser is exclusive to The Harley Medical Group and is proven to reduce the appearance of stretch marks and scars by up to 75 per cent.”

The scars and stretch mark treatment at The Harley Medical Group is the first FDA approved treatment for scars and stretch marks and is available exclusively at The Harley Medical Group. A single treatment costs £250 and a recommended course of four is priced at £950.

Men Seek ‘Boytox’ And Surgery To Save Their Jobs And To Compete In Jobs Market

The Harley Medical Group Ireland has revealed a cosmetic surgery boom amongst FAMs (forty or fifty year old alpha males) reporting year-on-year increases as follows:

+ Boytox up 43%
+ Microdermabrasion 32%
+ Face lifts up 16%
+ Male Breast Reduction 28%
+ Blepharoplasty up 26%
+ Chin lifts up 38%

The recession may have had an unexpected consequence for men, particularly those over 40, according to The Harley Medical Group who are today reporting a more than 300% increase in the past 10 years in the number of men seeking Boytox and other cosmetic surgery procedures at its Dublin clinic. While there was once a stigma attached to men seeking cosmetic improvements in Ireland, that taboo has nearly disappeared, especially among men seeking to save their job or to find a job. The number of men gettingfacelifts rose 16% from 2009 to 2010 while men using Boytox increased by a massive 43% and male liposuction rose 9%, according to new statistics just released by The Harley Medical Group. The reason for the increases appears to be related to a tougher job market, which has hit men disproportionately.

“We have attributed the dramatic rise in cosmetic procedures for men in Ireland to the fact that many men want to stay looking young so that they can compete with their younger counterparts as competition for jobs becomes fiercer during the recession”, says Liz Dale, Director of The Harley Medical Group.

“Many men are conscious that their appearance may be a reason that they received or did not receive a promotion or new job. These men claim that they either want to look younger, healthier, or both, in order to help their confidence and also assist them with their careers. Men in their forties often start with Rejuvenation Packages, a course of Boytox, a dermal filler and laser treatments, and then start looking for a more dramatic surgical solution when they hit their fifties, opting for surgery to remove eye bags and even full facelifts to turn back the clock,” she added.

The figures released today also reveal that 20% of all Botox patients at The Harley Medical Group are now men. According to The Harley Medical Group’s Boytox doctor, Dr Quinn, the average male Boytox patient is aged between 34 and 45 years.

Dr Quinn explains: “Our patients are looking to gain an edge in their looks and take off a few years. Most recently, I am treating patients who have just lost their jobs due to the recession and are seriously concerned about their future job prospects with many having spent several years in the same job. The results from a short treatment of Boytox and possibly dermal fillers can be dramatic and make them look younger while giving them more confidence in the job market. The main areas that men seek treatment for are excessive smile lines (or crow’s feet) and the deep horizontal lines across their forehead associated with ageing. Many of my younger patients opt for ‘Baby Botox’, a lighter variation of the treatment that uses extremely low doses of the toxin, giving a subtle and natural effect.”

Brits Are Marking The Anniversary Of Their Boob Jobs With Birthday-Style Celebrations

Busty British women are finding another way to celebrate their body confidence by throwing ‘boobirthdays’ to mark the anniversary of their breast augmentation surgery, in a bid to demonstrate the positive effect it has had on their lives.

With specific blogs and sites dedicated to cosmetic surgery, such as boobjobsupportforum.forumotion.co.uk, being used by bloggers to celebrate boobirthdays, nurses at The Harley Medical Group, the UK’s biggest cosmetic surgery provider, have noticed that women are now taking this growing trend offline. Nurses across the Group’s 31 clinics have reported that women are having boob job birthdays in their homes with family and friends, with the common aim of wanting to share with other women and with each other, how great they feel.

Lisa Littlehales, specialist nurse counsellor at The Harley Medical Group, says: “Lots of our patients keep in touch with the nurses who cared for them during their surgery process and they have noticed a small but significant number of these women comment that they like to mark the date of their breast enlargement each year – with many of our nurses even being invited to the patient’s big day. For many women, this date marks a turning point in their lives from feeling under confident, to loving the skin they are in and they like to celebrate their new lives each year.”

Says Emma Parmenter, 41, who had a breast enlargement at The Harley Medical Group: “I had my breast enlargement when I was 31 as I had very small breasts which greatly affected my confidence. My surgery was the best thing I have ever done, it completely changed my life and my image confidence has been great ever since.”

Emma continues: “I’m 41 now and feel really lucky to still feel as confident about my breasts as I was ten years ago when I first had surgery. I was so close to the nurse who looked after me throughout the experience and during my aftercare, when I decided to throw a party in celebration of my breast augmentation anniversary, she was the first person I invited. I’m still thrilled with the results and more confident than ever – I can’t think of any better reason to celebrate!”

Brits Turn to The Harley Medical Group for Pre-reunion Pampering

The UK’s biggest cosmetic surgery provider reports surge in women booking in for pre-reunion treatments.

The Harley Medical Group has announced a rise in non-surgical bookings for the first four months of the year, ahead of June, the most popular summer month for reunions in the UK*.

The UK’s largest cosmetic surgery group, which treated over 2,000 patients during April, has seen the biggest rise in non-surgical bookings amongst patients aged 25-35 years old. Bookings amongst men and women in this age group, are up 21% compared to the same time last year, with patients looking to refresh their skin and give themselves a “new you” feel.

Says Lisa Littlehales, specialist nurse counsellor at The Harley Medical Group:
“Many men and women are conscious of the effects that ageing has on their face and bodies. From 25 years old onwards we start losing, on average, 1.5% collagen from our skin every year. This is the age that fine lines begin to appear, pores become more visible and skin elasticity begins to decrease. Patients tend to book in for Botox, dermal fillers and other non-surgical treatments, to help prevent the ageing process, rejuvenate their skin and give them a fresher more youthful look.”

Littlehales continues: “We’ve have noticed that more patients are booking treatments in time for big events such as reunions, weddings and landmark birthdays – all events where they are likely to see people they haven’t seen for years. Many patients want to look and feel their best in front of people who may compare them to how they looked years ago.”

Says Matt Bushby, head of Friends Reunited: “June is the most popular time of the summer for reunions, this is the start of the wedding season and with the boom in social networking sites, such as Twitter and Facebook, it is easier for people to find each other and arrange a meeting.”

The most popular reunion treatments at The Harley Medical Group are Botox and dermal fillers which have seen an 11% rise in bookings for the first four months of 2011, followed by skin peels, medical microdermabrasion and laser treatments for stretch marks and hair removal. Adding to this, the non-surgical facelift has seen 30 bookings since its launch in April.

The Harley Medical Group Reports A New Trend This Spring – Laser Hair Removal On The Feet

The Harley Medical Group, the UK’s leading cosmetic provider, has reported a 23% rise year-on-year in laser hair removal, as well as the normal pre-summer rush for silky smooth legs there has been an interesting new trend – a surge in bookings to ‘de-fuzz’ feet and toes in time for summer.

With an average person shaving 11,540 times in their lifetime, and a typical hair growth cycle of two days, women are turning their backs on their hairy areas, favoured by celebrities like Julia Roberts, and instead preferring the long lasting results of laser hair removal. Although the bikini, legs and underarms continue to be top of the laser list, the feet are becoming a popular area for women to have treated. This is often combined with treatments to the lower legs, and the Group revealed that 350 women booked foot treatments in the last two weeks of April alone.

Chantelle O’Leary, laser hair specialist at The Harley Medical Group, said: “Women are so much more comfortable in discussing their body hair. Five years ago women rarely would approach us for laser hair on more unusual areas, whereas now, females are embracing the options out there for them.”

Laser hair is a clinically proven treatment for the removal of unwanted facial and body hair. The treatment results in 60-95% of targeted hair being permanently eliminated, offering patients a long-lasting and effective method of hair removal. The laser is passed over the skin which is absorbed by the hair pigment, targeting and destroying the follicle, reducing further growth.

Chantelle continues: “Treatment takes around 15 minutes on each foot, making it easy for busy career women or mums to fit into their daily routine. We recommend a course of 4-6 treatments, depending on the hair growth, with a rest period of four weeks between each booking. April and May are the ideal times to start a course to ensure smooth skin in time for summer.”

Case study quote: “I was always embarrassed about my feet – I had hair on my toes and tops of my feet. Summer was a nightmare; I was self-conscious in sandals, and avoided having any foot treatment like pedicures because I was worried someone would notice. Laser hair removal has made life so much easier; I feel much more confident in summer shoes, and no longer have to make time for lengthy hair removal processes.”

The Harley Medical Group reports rise in procedure dubbed ‘The Cameron’

Thinning lips are common problem amongst 40-something successful men, such as PM David Cameron, as aging and stress take their toll by reducing collagen production, which is responsible for keeping lips full and youthful. But British men are not happy with the “thin upper lip” look, and according to the UK’s leading cosmetic injectable company, The Harley Medical Group, are opting for dermal filler procedures to boost top and bottom lips. The Group reports male lip enhancing treatments are up 17% for the first quarter year on year – a procedure which has been dubbed by practioners at the Group’s Harley Street clinic The Cameron.

Says Lisa Littlehales, Specialist Nurse Councellor at The Harley Medical Group:“Whilst there is no doubt that the PM’s lips have thinned, his thinning lips are less noticeable in many ways, as he had incredibly slim line lips with minimal lip arches to begin with, but thinning lips are a common problem for men of his age group. A full lip line is central to presenting a youthful appearance and once ageing sets in, thinning lips can be very aging. We have seen more and more men opt for treatment, booking in for 30 minute sessions to have their upper and bottom lips boosted with non permanent fillers. ”

Dubbed ‘The Cameron’, the lip filler treatment costs from £350 at The Harley Medical Group and requires topping up every 3- 6months to help to restore a youthful plumpness to the lips. The filler is administered in a series of small injections on each side of the lips over a half hour treatment time, giving natural, immediate results. There is no downtime to the treatment, making this the perfect treatment for 40-something busy men.

Liz Dale, Director at The Harley Medical Group adds: “Cosmetic treatments for men, such as lip fillers to help combat the effects of ageing, is a trend which has become increasingly popular across our 31 clinics, with men feeling more comfortable to book in for treatments and the idea of cosmetic injectable treatments for men becoming more acceptable than it was five years ago”.

The Harley Medical Group reports boom in post-baby breast surgery

The Harley Medical Group, the UK’s leading cosmetic surgery provider, has reported a rise in mums booking surgical treatments post-pregnancy to help them combat the effects of pregnancy. The most popular treatment amongst new mums is breast augmentation, with bookings up 31% year-on-year.

The Group, which treats thousands of women a year across their 31 clinics, has seen more new mothers turning to surgical options to help regain shape and body confidence following pregnancy. Liposuction is also popular, up 27% year-on-year, and tummy tuck bookings are also up 15% year-on-year.

Comments Lisa Littlehales, specialist nurse counsellor at The Harley Medical Group:
“Many mothers find their breasts change after giving birth – often they notice a decrease in size or difference in shape following pregnancy and breast feeding. This can affect confidence and self-esteem. Lots of women are realising the surgical options available to them – breast augmentation helps mothers regain the shape and fullness of the breast, helping them feel more feminine again.”

Marco Moraci, surgeon at The Harley Medical Group, said: “Breast surgery is the most popular procedure amongst women, particularly new mums. The operation takes around an hour and a half, and patients are required to wear a supportive bra for the three months following. Prior to the surgery, we’ll help the patient choose the right size implant for their shape to ensure they achieve the look they desire.”

The procedure consists of a small incision being made in the crease of the underside of the breast, the armpit or lower edge of the areola. Once the incision is made, a pocket will be created for the implant to lie in. This may be either beneath the muscle or beneath the breast tissue.

Says, Michelle Denney who had a breast augmentation at The Harley Medical Group:
“After my pregnancy it became obvious that my breasts weren’t going to return to the shape and size they were before I fell pregnant. I decided to have surgery at The Harley Medical Group as my breasts were affecting my confidence and I longed to find a shape which worked for my new post-baby body. I am thrilled with the results and I haven’t looked back”.

Royal Wedding Sparks Boom In Brides-To-Be Booking ‘Ring Bling’ Treatments At The Harley Medical Group

In the wake of ‘that’ picture of Prince William and his bride-to-be showing off her beautiful hand and even more stunning engagement ring, brides are turning their attention to their hands – to make sure their pinkies are perfect for the wedding album. The UK’s largest cosmetic surgery provider, The Harley Medical Group, is reporting a 50% surge in women aged 25-35 coming in for non-surgical treatments on the hands.

Bernadette Harte, Non-Surgical Specialist at The Harley Medical Group, comments: “We have seen a huge increase in recently engaged women coming in to our clinics and having treatments on their hands. Most have said that having seen the picture of Kate Middleton’s stunning hand they want to make sure they have immaculate and youthful hands to show off their ‘ring bling’.”

Intense Pulse Light (IPL) treatments such as Aesthera PPx, which can also be used on the face, neck and chest areas, are increasingly popular for use on hands and arms. Aesthera PPx is a highly effective treatment, which rejuvenates the skin by destroying unwanted red or brown pigment and unsightly veins. The treatment action breaks down melanin within the skin, which the body naturally and safely absorbs, leaving it looking immediately more youthful and healthy.

Jane Usher, aged 29, is a patient at The Harley Medical Group who got engaged during the same month as William and Kate, comments: “When I saw Kate Middleton’s beautifully manicured young looking hand, showing off her engagement ring, I felt very self-conscious. Even though I am the same age as Kate, due to sun damage my hands look older than they should. After having Aesthera PPx at The Harley Medical Group my skin looks much fresher and healthy.”

Failure to Investigate Cosmetic Surgeon Can Cost You Your Life

A recent death illustrates the importance of investigating your cosmetic surgeon, says Dr. Mark Scheinberg from the Center for Cosmetic Laser Gynecology. Lidvian Zelaya, 35, underwent a procedure for abdominal liposuction and buttocks injections at the Strax Rejuvenation Clinic in south Florida.

She was rushed to the hospital, but died only a few hours after the start of the procedure. Investigations of public records by ABC News reveal that Dr. Roger L. Gordon, Zelaya’s plastic surgeon at Strax, has had 20 lawsuits filed against him since 2004. He was placed on probation by the Maryland Board of Physicians for undisclosed reasons and he had his staff privileges terminated by the Florida Medical Center. The Sun Sentinal revealed that Gordon was disciplined by the state in connection with two deaths in 2004.

“If you’re choosing a plastic surgeon, you want to do your homework,” says Scheinberg. “You’re entrusting them with your body – and your life. You need a doctor you can have confidence in.”

Scheinberg has been board certified in obstetrics and gynecology since 1981 and has performed over 10,000 surgical procedures. Scheinberg has received 100s of hours of training with Professor Adam Ostrzenski, M.D. Ph.D., a pioneer in safe, effectivevaginal reconstruction and cosmetic vaginal surgery.

Zalaya’s cause of death is under investigation, but she was declared healthy enough for surgery by doctors at the Strax Clinic. “I think it’s an inherent conflict of interest if you are getting screened by the surgeon who wants to do the procedure,” said Spencer Aronfeld, a malpractice attorney retained by Zalaya’s husband, Osvaldo Vargas.

Vargas has been publicizing the case as a way of warning others to investigate their cosmetic surgeons. In particular, he is urging patients to get a second pre-operative examination by an independent doctor. He said that Zelaya chose the Strax Clinic because she got a good deal on the procedure.

“You don’t want to rush into this kind of decision or select the doctor who offers you the lowest cost,” notes Scheinberg. “You want someone who has a long record of success with the procedure you are getting. Complaints and disciplinary actions against doctors are part of the public record. Patients can and should look this information up.”

The Exercise Myths

There are still many popular misconceptions about how to lose weight or tone up stomachs, bottoms and thighs – with exercise routines left over from the days of ‘go for the burn’ aerobics and Jane Fonda-style videos.

Sit-ups have traditionally been thought of the best way to tone stomach muscles – but this might not be the case. Firstly, lots of sit-ups or crunches alone won’t tone a flabby belly – you need to combine any exercise with other exercises as well as eating a balanced diet. Sit-ups also target the most superficial ‘six-pack’ core muscles, but too many of these will cause the tummy to bulge out, leading to a pot belly.

Those trying to lose weight often believe that exercising for longer periods of time will lead to increased weight loss. But exercising hard for a long time will produce excessive amounts of stress hormones, including adrenaline and cortisol, which begin to break down muscle tissue.

High-intensity exercise is good for heart health, but not effective for fat loss. Studies have shown the best way to burn fat is by carrying out moderate to light-intensity exercise, such as a brisk walk.

Those who are finding it hard to shift stubborn fat, should come for a consultation with an expert surgeon at The Hospital Group.

The Hospital Group offer a range of cosmetic procedures to help people achieve the perfect body, including tummy tucks and liposuction, as well as weight loss surgery, including gastric bypasses, balloons and bands.

David Ross, Chief executive of The Hospital Group, which has 19 clinics across the UK said: “People who come for a consultation have often been trying to beat the bulge through various diets and exercise regimes for years, but many do not have access to knowledge to make a lasting difference.

Overweight Struggle With Weight Loss Because Of Heightened Sense Of Smell

New research has found that some overweight people have a greater sense of smell for food which may cause them to struggle with diets and weight loss.

Carried out by the University of Portsmouth , the study found that those who were overweight, or had a high BMI, had a far heightened sense of smell for food compared with slim people.

Volunteers took part in the study where they were asked to join in with a series of mini experiments that tested their smelling ability.

The results revealed that most people are better at detecting food odours just after they had eaten rather than when they were hungry with experts citing this as one of the reasons many people continue eating long after they are full up.

Scientists believe this new research could help explain why some people struggle to stay slim or stick to a strict diet.

Lead researcher Dr Stafford, said: “It could be speculated that for those with a propensity to gain weight, their higher sense of smell for food related odours might actually play a more active role in food intake.

“Hopefully this research will stimulate more work in this area with the potential to help those who struggle with their weight and those who treat people with weight problems.”

Those who are worried about being overweight should book a consultation with an expert bariatric surgeon at The Hospital Group.

The Hospital Group is the UK ‘s biggest provider of weight loss surgery, including gastric bands, gastric bypasses and gastric balloons.

David Ross, Chief Executive of The Hospital Group said: “Many overweight people struggle with their food intake and often find themselves in a vicious cycle of over eating.
