Chubby Celebs Make Obesity The “Norm”

Stick thin celebrities have long been held responsible for the pressure on ordinary people to lose weight – now it would seem the tables have turned and fat celebrities are being blamed for the rising obesity epidemic.

Experts say that tubby celebs such as “Gavin and Stacey’s” James Corden and Ruth Jones are making obesity more socially acceptable and “normal”.

The profile of “larger” celebs has considerably risen over the years, with names such as Dawn French, Jonny Vegas, Peter Kay and of course Fern Britton (who has now lost her weight), appearing on our screens.

A recent report revealed that 23 per cent of Brits are now classed as obese compared to just 11 per cent 10 years ago.

More than 2,000 people took part in a nationwide survey in which researchers found that 17 per cent of obese people refuse to consider taking action to lose weight, whether via surgery or extreme diet regimes.

Weight loss doesn’t have to revolve around fad diets and excruciating exercise regimes though. The Hospital Group, one of the country’s leading obesity and cosmetic surgery providers, offers a wide range of obesity treatments including gastric band and body shaping treatments including liposuction and tummy tuck.

Last year The Hospital Group saw a staggering 73 per cent increase in the number of enquires made regarding weight loss surgery, making them the largest obesity surgery provider in the UK.

Since The Hospital Group was established in 1992, it has grown from a small pharmaceutical company to one of the UK’s foremost weight loss surgery providers.

For further information of The Hospital Group’s range of weight loss procedures, surgery-seekers should visit the website www.thehospitalgroup.org or call our patient care coordinators on 0845 762 6727.

Harley Medical Group service would be recommended by 98% of its patients

The Harley Medical Group, which has 26 clinics in the UK, reveals outstanding results from an independent customer satisfaction survey of patients from clinics nationwide for 2007 and 2008.

Combined results for 2007 and 2008 reveal 98% of patients would recommend the Harley
Medical Group based on their own experience – 100% responded positively in 2007 with 97% saying the same for 2008.

On overall satisfaction, patients were asked to consider all areas of service from treatment in the clinic, consultations with nurses and surgeons to their operation and post-operative support. Ninety-five per cent of 2008 patients thought the Harley Medical Group’s service was ‘very good’ or ‘good’ with 96% reporting the same for 2007.

Liz Dale, director at the Harley Medical Group, said: “We attribute these fantastic results as much to our strict medical ethos and consultation period as to the skill of our surgeons. At the Harley Medical Group we advise all patients to think long and hard about their surgery and to consider the implications for a minimum of six months before they begin the consultation procedure.”

Every patient at the Harley Medical Group will meet with a fully trained cosmetic surgerynurse counsellor for an initial consultation when each stage of the procedure, from consultation with the surgeon through to the post-operative, follow-up and recovery period will be explained thoroughly. The clinical aspects of the operation will also be covered in detail, any questions will be answered and concerns addressed. Nurse counsellors can also put potential clients in touch with other patients who have undergone the same treatment.

Only after both patient and nurse are happy to proceed will an appointment be made with a surgeon who will assess the patient for suitability and talk through the procedure in detail. (All surgeons associated with the Harley Medical Group in the UK are on the GMC Specialist Register for Plastic Surgery – in Ireland with The Medical Council Ireland – and meet the requirements of the Healthcare Commission, for practicing in the UK.)

  • The Harley Medical Group is the UK’s largest cosmetic surgery provider, performing more procedures and with more clinics than any other cosmetic surgery provider. He has trained under and received certification in cosmetic vaginal surgery from the famed Dr. Matlock of “Dr. 90210,” and recognition has been given to him by the Laser Vaginal Rejuvenation Institute of America (LVRIA). Thousands Of Brits Undergo BOTOX® Treatment Every Year To Reduce The Appearance Of Laughter Lines And Furrowed Brows

However scientists have discovered another use for the anti-wrinkle treatment. Not only can it be used to reduce the effects of ageing and stop hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating), but BOTOX® can now actually improve your mood as well.

Researchers at Cardiff University investigated the effects of cosmetic treatments on the mood of 25 volunteers.

Out of the group a number of them underwent BOTOX® whilst others had laser surgery, cosmetic peels and numerous other treatments designed to make the skin look younger. All of the groups felt that their treatment was particularly effective, but those given BOTOX® said they felt much happier.

Researchers believe that our expressions affect our mood, so when we wrinkle our brows when annoyed it only reinforces our irritation.

Therefore by stopping the face from frowning, BOTOX® actually makes patients feel happier.

David Ross, chief executive of The Hospital Group, said: “Despite the recession, our clinics have reported a surge in the number of BOTOX® treatments conducted across the country.

“For many years we have noticed the positive effect the treatment has had not only on our patient’s appearance, but also their mood. Patients leave our clinics in high spirits which we feel contributes to their numerous return visits.”

The Hospital Group, one of the country’s leading cosmetic surgeries, provides a vast number of age preventative treatments across its 19 clinics throughout the UK.

The Group saw an incredible 226 per cent increase in the number of non-surgical procedures performed in 2008. A total of 5,200 treatments were carried out across the group last year with treatments such as Botox®, hyperhidrosis and facial peels rising in popularity.

Since The Hospital Group was established in 1992, it has grown from a small pharmaceutical company to one of the UK’s foremost cosmetic surgery providers. The Group is committed to providing the very highest standards and all procedures are performed by an expert medical team in state-of-the-art facilities that are second to none.

Sweaty Summers A Thing Of The Past

The virtues of a colourful summer wardrobe are extolled by many a style expert. But many men and women across the UK have little choice but to reach for something in black or white – for fear of the embarrassment caused by their excessive sweating.

Sweating is a natural function to control body temperature, but for some people excessive sweating – or hyperhidrosis – can occur for no apparent reason.

The severity of the condition varies from person to person and the underarm area is usually the main area affected. Wherever the condition strikes, excessive sweating can prove problematic socially and professionally.

The condition comes about when the sympathetic nervous system, which controls involuntary responses such as sweating and blushing, fails to regulate sweating. But The Hospital Group can provide relief for those suffering from the affliction with its BOTOX® cure.

The BOTOX® treatment involves a series of injections in the affected area, which prevents the release of the chemical acetylcholine from the nerve fibres that stimulate overactive sweat glands.

The non-surgical procedure takes only half an hour and the patient will see a dramatic improvement that lasts for around six months.

The Hospital Group, one of the country’s leading cosmetic surgeries, provides a vast number of non-surgical treatments across its 19 clinics throughout the UK.

Is Gastric Band Surgery Cheating?

Most People who are considering gastric band surgery probably have been struggling with their weight problem for many years – they have lost and regained weight perhaps several times.

Gastric Band dose not provide an instant solution, but it does provide a long term solution, most patients manage to reach a weight they are comfortable with and can stablise their weight.

Is gastric band cheating? Well, it dose cheat misery and bad health. Does it make any sense to struggle with a weight problem for many years – life is short, most people want to have a healthy and happy life without their weight problem hanging over them day in and day out. Giving that you can now get this surgery for around under £4,000, it makes sense to get it done if your BMI (body mass index) is between 35 to 50. The money you can save from your food bills after the surgery will exceed soon that you have paid for the surgery.

The money you will save from your food bills can then be happily spent on an entire new wardrobe. This is not cheating, this is logical, sensible decision.

Do talk to your GP about the idea of getting a gastric band fitted, if your local nhs won’t do it, there is no reason why you should not get it done privately if you can manage the finance.

The Harley Medical Group Launches Its New Sculptra Volumising Treatment In Response To The Latest Celeb Trend For Baby Smooth Faces Hits London

The world’s most beautiful people are ditching the ‘heroin chic’ look of gaunt faces and sharpened cheekbones and instead opting for apple-shaped cheeks and rounded foreheads. The recently reported LA trend for the so-called ‘pillow face’ is seeing celebs swap Botox for plumping treatments. Now, inspired by the likes of Kylie and Madonna, women in London are embracing the smooth, padded look sported by the stars.

The Harley Medical Group, the UK’s largest cosmetic surgery provider, has anticipated the uptake of the trend in London by launching Sculptra, an injectable volumising treatment – in its six London clinics. Thanks to growing demand for ‘apple’ cheeks, the introduction of Sculptra has been its fastest ever non-surgical launch.

Liz Dale, Director at The Harley Medical Group, said: “We counsel all our patients to have realistic expectations – no procedure will leave them looking like exactly like Nicole Kidman or Liz Hurley. However, Sculptra will fill in lines and wrinkles and make the face look plumper and more even. It’s a really great investment as the results can last up to three years.”

Sculptra stimulates the build up of the body’s own collagen. Like more traditional dermal fillers, Sculptra is introduced into areas of the face that have lost their natural plumpness and elasticity. The non-permanent restoration of lost facial volume gives smoother, younger-looking skin.

The main ingredient of Sculptra is Poly-L-lactic Acid. The PLLA works from deep within the skin’s layers stimulating the body’s own production of collagen. Poly-L-lactic acid has been used in surgical procedures for over 25 years and is gradually and naturally broken down by the body.

Dr Nicky Naylor, The Harley Medical Group, said: “We’re seeing patients using Sculptra on sunken cheeks to give a fuller-faced look, or a little higher up on the face to give a more sculptured effect. A lot of women that come in are after a heart-shaped face – à la Madonna – which can be achieved by rounding out the cheeks.”

Liz Dale continued: “The surgical side of the business continues to grow steadily but we’ve seen real increases in the demand for non-surgical treatments, particularly in London where LA trends tend to hit first. We’re responding by committing to a series of new treatment launches this year. In addition to Sculptra, we’ve also recently launched the radical Obagi Blue Chemical Peel, which has been dubbed the ‘Recessionista’s Facelift’ by fans thanks to its effectiveness at improving skin tightness and reducing lines, wrinkles and scars at a relatively low cost.”

Adominoplasty Patient Debra Gregory Has Revealed The Story Behind Her Surgery To A National Women’s Glossy Magazine

Debra, 49, had a tummy tuck after four pregnancies left the skin on her stomach loose and drooping. Debra, who spoke to Pick Me Up magazine, said: “I rang The Hospital Group cosmetic surgery clinic and within two weeks, I was chatting to one of its surgeons in Southampton. Two months later I was being prepped for surgery. Bye bye flab, I thought to myself as I drifted under the anaesthetic.

“After the surgery, it was a dream come true. I had a stomach to rival Britney Spears! The kids call me ‘skinny tummy mummy’ and my husband thinks I look great too.”

And it’s not just women like Debra who are seeking surgery.

The number of people opting for surgery has soared over the past five years by a staggering 320 per cent. According to the British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons (BAAPS), an unbelievable 34,100 procedures were performed in 2008.

Boosting self-confidence and the desire for the ultimate beach body are said to be the major reasons for people to undergo surgery.

The most popular treatment for women in 2008 remains breast augmentation, seeing an increase of 30 per cent. However abdominoplasty camea close second with 3,300 women opting to go under the knife.

The Hospital Group, the country’s leading cosmetic surgeries and weight loss providers, has also seen a considerable increase in the number of procedures being undertaken, with a staggering 45 per cent increase in the number of women having breast augmentation.

David Ross, Chief Executive of The Hospital Group said: “Debra is just one of our very happy patients. At The Hospital Group, people can be assured of a dedicated, professional service, by experts who can help you achieve the look you’ve always wanted.

Recent Reports Show That Brits Are Increasingly Spending More Money On Their Looks

Therefore it’s no surprise that plastic surgery clinics have reported an increase in non-surgical procedures such facial peels, fillers and Botox®.

Botox® is just one of many procedures which has increased in popularity over recent years. Many high profile celebrities such as Britains Got Talents, Amanda Holden and Simon Cowell are big Botox® ambassadors, having several sessions a year.

The treatment itself involves the injection of purified protein into the chosen area, which then reduces the activity of the muscles that cause the formation of wrinkles over time.

Botox® has now been taken a step further and can even prevent excess sweating, also known as hyperhidrosis. A series of injections in the treated area, usually the underarm, will gradually decrease levels of perspiration until it practically stops for the next six months.

Recent studies have shown that despite the credit crunch hanging over our heads, it hasn’t affected the growing demand for non-surgical procedures such as Botox®, facial fillers and chemical peels.

The Hospital Group, one of the country’s leading cosmetic surgeries, provides a vast number of non-surgical treatments across its 19 clinics throughout the UK.

The Group saw an incredible 226 per cent increase in the number of non-surgical procedures performed in 2008. A total of 5,200 treatments were carried out across the group last year with treatments such as Botox®, hyperhidrosis and skin peels risingin popularity.

Comestic Surgery Boom In UK For 2008

The number of people opting for surgery has soared over the past five years by a staggering 320 per cent. According to the British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons (BAAPS), an unbelievable 34,100 procedures were performed in 2008.

Boosting self-confidence and the desire for the ultimate beach body are said to be the major reasons for people to undergo surgery.

Women From The North Of Britain Are The Bustiest In The Country, But Nearly Half Of Those Blessed With A Larger Chest Aren’t Happy With Their Size

Women from the North of Britain are the bustiest in the country, but nearly half of those blessed with a larger chest aren’t happy with their size.

According to a recent survey, Yorkshire ladies top the chart, with 35 per cent needing a DD cup bra or larger. Newcastle girls also call for larger sizes, along with 30 per cent of those in Bristol and 29 per cent of Brummies.

At the other end of the scale, only 22 per cent of Mancs and 21 per cent of London lasses boast boobs above DD.

But the study revealed that four in ten of those questioned think their boobs made it harder for them to find a man, while two thirds found it harder to exercise.

Ten per cent say they are too embarrassed to dance or chat to men. And a massive 22 per cent said that they had at least considered breast reduction surgery.

Women seeking to reduce their breast size can find solace at the UK’s leading cosmetic and weight loss surgery provider, The Hospital Group, which performed 1000s of breast surgery operations every year, including breast reduction procedures as well as uplift and enlargement/augmentation procedures.

Large breasts can be the cause of significant physical discomfort with constant backache or shoulder pain, and many patients talk of the effect that their large chest has on their self-confidence and even their personal relationships.

The Hospital Group perform an extensive range of cosmetic breast surgery procedures, ranging from breast reduction, nipple reduction, breast uplift and enlargement.

David Ross, Chief Executive of The Hospital Group said: “We see a large number of women who are affected by their large chest, so it is no surprise that this study has found so many unhappy with their ‘blessing’. “At The Hospital Group, people can be assured of a dedicated, professional service, with astounding success rates and a limited waiting time. Our surgeons have years of experience, and can advise you honestly on how The Hospital Group can help you achieve the size and shape breasts you want. For those with larger breasts, that means a reduction; whereas, for others, an uplift or enlargement is required. Everyone’s anatomy and requirements are different, but our staff will listen to the patient and provide honest advice about the best treatment and likely outcome.”

The Hospital Group is committed to providing the very highest standards and all procedures are performed by an expert medical team in state-of-the-art facilities that are second to none. Men’s Careers Push Them Into Surgery

The Harley Medical Group has reported that UK men are becoming more preoccupied with their appearance, especially within four key career areas. The increase in awareness and anxiety amongst men that their bodies may not look their best, has been met with an explosion in the number of slang terms for unwanted areas of the male body, along with rise in the number of operations to remove them.

The cosmetic surgery operation to reduce male breast tissue, or ‘moobs’, is now relatively commonplace, but the removal of ‘Simon Cowells’ (modern day rhyming slang for jowls), and the removal of ‘mandles’ (male love handles) are also becoming more popular than ever.

The demand for male cosmetic surgery is in part being driven by long working hours and work stress, according to the UK’s largest cosmetic surgery provider, The Harley Medical Group. An audit of the most common career choices amongst the UK’s burgeoning male cosmetic surgery market revealed that some punishing careers appear to be taking their toll on British males, who are now seeking the help of the UK’s leading surgeons to turn back the clock.

The audit was carried out by The Harley Medical Group, which has carried out more than 55,000 procedures on British males and showed a recent 26% year-on-year increase in male surgery. The audit also revealed that male patients over the last 12 months are predominantly from four career areas:

Bankers and city workers
Civil Service
Politics, Public affairs and local councils
Professional Services – legal and accountancy

Mr Frati, Surgeon, The Harley Medical Group commented, “The bad diets, punishing hours and stress that often goes hand in hand with these types of professions make men prime candidates for premature aging. We’re not surprised to see a trend emerge for professions most likely to opt for surgery as the side-effects of a punishing job can cause the loss of skin elasticity and encourage build up of stubborn fat in key areas.”

Liposuction on ‘mandles’ and ‘moobs’, face lifts including mini-face lifts to improve the jowls, or ‘Simon Cowells’, are amongst the most popular male procedures in 2009. Rhinoplasty and Otoplasty are also proving popular; particularly amongst male cosmetic surgery patients aged 25-35, and ‘Boytox’ (Botox for men) – continues to be very popular, up 12% year-on-year.

Liz Dale, Director of The Harley Medical Group, commented, “There is no doubt that in some areas, men are feeling more under pressure to look the part as the work place becomes increasingly competitive.”

All patients considering cosmetic surgery should ensure that their surgeon is trained and registered in the GMC Specialist Register as a Plastic Surgeon and ensure that their first consultation is carried out by a medical professional. The Hospital Group Provides The Latest Follicular Hair Transplantation Techniques

Television heartthrob James Nesbitt has sparked rumours he has plumped for hair transplantation treatment, as photographs taken this week show the Irish lothario sporting a much fuller hairline.

The 44-year-old star of the Yellow Pages adverts has made no secret of his fears of going bald, and has admitted to succumbing to every treatment the services directory could throw at him.

In 2001 he confessed to taking vitamin tablets to slow his hair loss, and four years ago resorted to a stimulating lotion to boost growth. Speaking about the lotion at the time, Nesbitt said: “It made me feel like my scalp was going to explode. It said it opened the pores of the scalp to encourage new growth. It’s ridiculous, but it’s horrible going bald.”

The former Cold Feet actor has admitted he worried his thinning hairline would affect his career, and men in the United Kingdom with similar concerns can find a solution thanks to The Hospital Group. The Hospital Group, the UK’s leading cosmetic surgeons, perform more hair restoration procedures than any other surgery provider, and only carry out natural hair transplants using the latest Follicular Hair Transplantation techniques.

Follicular Transplantation involves transplanting hair units, often with four or five hairs growing from one follicle, to a bald spot to generate growth.

Human hairs are genetically programmed to either be sensitive to the male hormone, which causing them to die, or to be permanently immune to the hormone and last a lifetime. Hair Transplantation uses the ‘lifetime growth’ hairs from around the back of the head, and transplants them in areas where the hairs have died.

Hair Transplantation at The Hospital Group is a minor surgical procedure, taking little more than three hours. The Hospital Group’s hair restoration and transplantation clinic was founded in 1992, and is staffed with industry experts at its dedicated Dolan Park Hospital in the Midlands.

The Hospital Group is committed to providing the very highest standards and all procedures are performed by an expert medical team in state-of-the-art facilities that are second to none. Since The Hospital Group was established, it has grown from a small pharmaceutical company to one of the UK’s foremost cosmetic surgery providers.

Breast Augmentation Surgery Is Still Top Of The Ops

The Harley Medical Group has reported a rise in breast augmentation surgery, with a growth of 27% year on year. This increase has been driven by a boom in post baby surgery, with mothers now accounting for 60% of breast augmentation patients, making it the third most common type of post-natal procedure.

Angela Fry, 38, from Maidenhead had a breast augmentation after she had her fourth child. She comments: “After each birth my shape changed dramatically and my breasts sagged and lost their shape completely. For me, having a Breast Augmentation wasn’t about getting bigger breasts but getting them back to the shape and size that was right for my figure. Having the surgery has made me feel more feminine and given me much more confidence in myself.”

Breast augmentation surgery was first performed in 1895 and is today the most popular surgical cosmetic procedure for women. During the procedure an incision is made in the crease of the underside of the breast and the implant is inserted into a pocket created by the surgeon. The result is fuller and more evenly shaped breasts. The treatment takes around one hour to perform and a general anaesthetic will be administered to the patient.

Breast augmentation surgery at The Harley Medical Group costs from £4,275. For more information visit the www.harleymedical.co.uk.

An Increasing Number Of Men Are Now Undergoing Breast Reduction Surgery In A Bid To Improve Their Physical Appearance

New figures reveal a vast amount of men are opting for procedures such as surgery for gynaecomastia (commonly known as ‘man boobs’). More than 320 of these operations were performed last year, compared with just 22 five years ago.

According to the British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons (BAAPS), the number of men having cosmetic surgery has now risen to almost one in 10 patients. And with an increase of 44% since last year, male breast reduction surgery has surpassed other rises in overall breast enlargement and tummy tucks.

Nigel Mercer, President of the BAAPS, said: “Wide media coverage has helped to educate the public about the latest advances and choices available, and we are encouraged by the fact that more people are doing their research carefully and choosing reputable providers. The Hospital Group, the UK’s leading provider of cosmetic surgery, perform a wide range of aesthetic procedures in specialist clinics across the country. It carried out 46 male breast reduction procedures last year, compared with just five in 2004.

David Ross, Chief Executive of The Hospital Group, said: “Many men have body image problems and low self-esteem from gynaecomastia. They may have been teased at school or in the gym about the fat on their chests. Some men even refuse to show their chests in front of their partners because they’re so embarrassed. The surgery is fantastic because men see results so quickly, which gives them the get up and go to live happier lifestyles.”

Excessive chest tissue can be the result of hormonal changes, disease, certain drugs or hereditary conditions. It can also be exaggerated with weight gain or loss and may affect one or both breasts. The condition can often cause embarrassment and can affect males of any age.

As well as male breast reduction, The Hospital Group performs other cosmetic procedures such as liposculpture fat removal, abdominoplasty (tummy tuck) and arm lift surgery.

An Infectious Skin Disease Is Spreading Through The Sport Of Sumo Wresling Resulting In Some Of The Top Wrestlers Losing Their Hair.

Sumo wrestling is facing ruin because of an infectious skin disease spreading throughout the sport – and causing top wrestlers to lose their hair.

As the wrestlers grapple with one another, the fungus spreads itching and baldness, causing flakes of skin to flake off. The disease also enters hair follicles and causes hair loss – causing much disquiet in the sport as the wrestlers lose their famous ‘top-knots’.

Wrestlers have been forced to undertake a three-month course of drugs to rid themselves of the disease, but the hair loss is permanent. Throughout the sport, hair is recognised as central to a wrestlers’ reputation, in much the same way that in many cultures hair is acknowledged as a symbol of virility.

Since the Edo period sumo wrestlers have been expected to grow their hair long and adopt the ‘top-knot’ style. Such is the superstition surrounding a wrestler’s hair, Yokozuna Tochigiyama, Japan’s most successful wrestlers, retired in his prime in 1925 as he did not have enough hair.

Men in the United Kingdom need not go to such lengths if they are suffering from hair loss.

The Hospital Group, the UK’s leading cosmetic surgeons, perform more hair restoration procedures than any other surgery provider, and only carry out natural hair transplants using the latest Follicular Hair Transplantation techniques.
