Dentist Dr. Charles Nottingham and the Extreme Makeover Dental Lab Film Dental Documentary

Smile South Florida® Cosmetic Dentistry is announcing that it will be joining forces with da Vinci Dental Studios (ABC’s Extreme Makeover Dental Lab) to begin filming a dental documentary piece, which will be produced by the Emmy Award Winning Plum Television. This documentary will air on Plum Television (Miami Beach Channel 5) in April 2009. The story behind the piece is to provide viewers with insight into the shared values and history of da Vinci Dental Studios and Smile South Florida Cosmetic Dentistry.

Dr. Nottingham

Da Vinci’s founder, Daniel Materdomini, will be featured in the film, along with Smile South Florida Cosmetic Dentist, Dr. Charles Nottingham. Mr. Materdomini and Dr. Nottingham have been working together for over 20 years, taking cosmetic dentistry to a new level of excellence. Mr. Materdomini and da Vinci Dental Studios have showcased Dr. Nottingham’s smile gallery cases in several predominant dental magazines. Dr. Nottingham even performed restorative work on Mr. Materdomini’s mother.

In offering feedback on the work that South Florida Dentist Dr. Nottingham completed for his mother, Mr. Materdomini said that, “if the Extreme Makeover show was filmed in Florida, I am sure [Dr. Nottingham] would be the providing dentist.”

During filming, Dr. Nottingham explained to Plum TV that many years before ABC’s Extreme Makeover Show made da Vinci Dental Studios a household name for porcelain veneers, Dr. Nottingham had selected them as his dental lab of choice. With hundreds of dental labs in the local area to choose f r o m, Dr. Nottingham decided to have his dental materials shipped across the country, in order to perfect his results. Dr. Nottingham went on to mention that da Vinci continues to share his commitment to quality and service.

Tummy Tuck And Liposuction, Before And After Photos

Tummy tuck and liposuction, before and after photos demonstrate why this combined surgery is becoming ever more popular. At £2846, it has become more affordable for many men and women to have the combined procedure to their tummy region.

Tummy tuck surgery at an affordable price, provided by Beautiful Beings.

Abdominal cosmetic surgery, commonly known as a tummy tuck offers a solution by flattening the slack skin and tightening the muscles of the relaxed abdominal wall, which frequently occurs after pregnancy or a distinct weight loss.

If needed, excess subcutaneous fatty tissue can be removed as well. The appearance and functional results of the tummy tuck are substantial, although scars are inevitable in order to remove excessive skin from the tummy during a tummy tuck. It leaves a permanent scar after. However, it will fade after time and its quality differs per individual. A tummy tuck is not only an aesthetic cosmetic surgery procedure but it provides a solution to functional deficiencies of the abdominal wall, i.e. inferior rectus muscle diastases. A tummy tuck not only brings about a better appearance and function, but it also stops the slackening process of the abdominal wall.

Gastric Band – £3980, inlcuding 3 x-ray assited refills

The Gastric Band surgery will be carried out in a specialist state hospital in Prague. www.beautifulbeings.co.uk

Gastric Band surgery is not an instant solution to weight loss. Having a gastric band fitted will assist in decreasing overall daily food intake and can help you achieve a sustainable weight.

The Gastric band works by causing a feeling of fullness when eating and will enable you to reduce your daily intake of food and calories. The gastric band will make you eat less, it will reduce the sensation of hunger and will progressively aide weight loss.

This is achieved by placing the band around the uppermost part of the stomach, dividing it into two sections, with a small opening between sections which allows food to pass through. The section above the band forms a small pouch that fills with food quickly.

Having the gastric band fitted will lead to a healthier lifestyle and lower the risks of obesity related illnesses However changing your eating habits is an important part of the gastric band surgery process. The gastric band will help you to achieve substantial weight loss and reduce the risk of obesity related illnesses. To achieve the maximum benefits from having the gastric banding, post-operative discipline is an important part of the process.

You will need to go on a diet immediately after the gastric band surgery. You will obtain a detailed dietary plan with essential and important advice from your specialists. After the gastric band surgery you can consult the plan with a dietologist recommended by your doctor.

Generally it means that following the gastric banding you will only be able to consume liquid food within the first four weeks such as soup, tea, coffee, unsweetened drinks, fruit and vegetable fruits, yoghurts etc. You will need to reduce the amount of fluids consumed and not eat or drink large amounts at once.

The following two weeks you will be able to eat small portions of mushy, mixed food.

Next the diet will be replaced with common food. Please consult your doctor for more detailed information.

These slow changes of eating habits are important for your recovery. During this process the gastric band will be, thanks to body tissue, firmly placed on the appropriate part of your stomach. Consuming large portions or frequent consumption of solid food increases the risk of dislocating (moving) the gastric band out of its position or the possibility of gradual upper stomach pocket stretching. The consequence might be reduced weight loss and in some cases necessity for re-operation.

Following the gastric banding you might find some food hard to eat. You will need to chew your food more carefully than before the gastric band surgery. Keep in mind that even after the gastric banding there is no quick solution to reduce your weight. The results depend upon your ability to respect recommendations concerning your diet and exercise routine.

Surgicare Reports Rise In The Number Of Male Breast Reduction Enquiries

SurgiCare, one of the largest cosmetic surgery networks in the UK, has released figures that show the number of men enquiring about breast reduction surgery (gynaecomastia) has risen dramatically in the past year.

Data released by the cosmetic surgery company shows that the number of male breast reduction enquiries made at SurgiCare clinics has trebled in January 2009 compared to January 2008.

SurgiCare’s findings are supported by figures from the British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons (Baaps), which reveal that a total of 323 male breast reduction cosmetic surgery procedures were carried out in 2008, up 44% from 2007.

SurgiCare’s data implies that British men are becoming increasingly concerned about their appearance, with problems ranging from classical cases of gynaecomastia, to breasts enlarged by deposits of fat over the pectoral muscles.

While it is possible that increasing numbers of men are simply becoming obese in the UK and insist on taking a surgical shortcut, many Baaps members insist that this is not the only reason for the rise in male breast reduction procedures. Some Baaps members point to hormonal imbalances, such as pubertal gynaecomastia, where excessive breast tissue is developed in adolescent boys, as another possible widespread cause of the ailment. SurgiCare also believes that genetic disorders such as Klinefelter’s Syndrome, where a man has an extra ‘X’ chromosone, can contribute to excessive breast tissue while gynaecomastia can sometimes be an unfortunate side effect of drugs prescribed for the treatment of prostate cancer.

According to cosmetic surgery experts, one of the key factors in the rise of male breast reduction operations is simply increasing awareness by men with regards to their appearance and feeling the pressure to always look good, when, in the past, such issues were more commonly felt by women.

Almost 1000 Breast Augmentation Before/After Photos Online

Cosmetic-plastic-surgery.info, which provides information about cosmetic plastic surgery abroad, believes before/after photos are an important tool when making a decision on which surgeon to trust for your breast augmentation procedure. The website currently provides one of the largest breast augmentation before/after photo banks on the web. Almost 1000 before and after breast augmentation pictures from many doctors can be found at Cosmetic-plastic-surgery.info.

Pavel Hilbert, managing partner of Cosmetic-plastic-surgery.info, an information portal about cosmetic Breast Augmentation - Breast Implantsplastic surgery abroad, says some doctors prefer not to put photos of their work online in order to avoid promoting plastic surgery to youth. In some places, like Germany, it is illegal to show before/after photos until you have been contacted by a potential client.

“Most patients want to see photos and base their decision to contact a particular surgeon on their photo results,” says Hilbert. “Many doctors however think it’s more of a marketing tool and not exactly representative of a surgeon’s work as, of course, they’ll only publish their best samples.”

And what about the unrealistic expectations that so many cosmetic plastic surgeons have to contend with? The results of breast augmentation depend a lot on a body type; and wanting to replicate the look in a beautiful photo may not always be possible.

The purpose of the breast augmentation before/after photos at Cosmetic-plastic-surgery.info is to offer visitors another tool for their research. Use it, but don’t forget to take all potential surgery issues under consideration.

www.Cosmetic-plastic-surgery.info provides information about cosmetic plastic surgery abroad and presents it to the general public in Czech, English, German, Russian and more languages.

More Parents Travelling For Child Surgery

Traveling out of state or country for medical treatment, commonly referred to as medical tourism, is now catching on with parents seeking specialized surgeries for their children.

In the last few years, parents f r o m around the world have flocked to the United States for specialized pediatric surgeries. And American parents have sought help in countries with nationalized healthcare or more affordable surgeries, such as India. But as with all surgical procedures and practices, experts are advising caution.

Dr. Armen Ketchedjian, author of the book Will It Hurt? A Parent’s Practical Guide to Children’s Surgery, says that any parent looking for the best care for their child should place quality first, and that any decision made about surgery should be done with the advice and counsel of the child’s pediatrician.

“Selecting a surgeon for a child can be a difficult process for parents,” says Dr. Ketch, as the author is known to his patients. “It’s a frightening thing to be told that your child needs surgery, and parents are sometimes slow to trust doctors to operate. So caution is a natural and advisable strategy.”

Hospitals like Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak, Michigan, have adapted to the trend and deal with families f r o m around the world—200 f r o m Italy alone—who travel there to take advantage of the hospital’s specialized surgeries to restore vision in premature babies.

For American parents, the journey often leads them to areas with American-trained doctors working for lower wages. “Unfortunately, the healthcare companies sometimes insist on very strict criteria for approving a surgery,” says Dr. Ketch. “It has changed the way pediatric surgeons practice medicine.”

Dr. Ketch hopes that his book will contribute to better parent education about pediatric surgery in general and recommends that parents who are considering traveling to see specialists keep the following guidelines in mind:

* Look for a surgeon who has training in the kind of surgery your child needs

* Find out in advance what type of facility your child will have to be in for the procedure

* If you have a choice between a medical center that specializes in pediatrics and one that does not, choose the one that specializes in pediatrics

* Look for a surgeon who has extensive experience

These tips and more are part of Dr. Ketch’s efforts to give parents some insight into the world of pediatric surgery. He says hopes that more parents will take advantage of resources like his to learn about their options before making a final decision about where to take their child for surgery.

Will It Hurt? helps educate parents about pediatric surgery. It is an easy-to-read resource that will give parents, children and families the help and reassurance they need to make surgical experiences as stress-free as possible.

Listed in The Guide to America’s Top Anesthesiologists by the Consumer Research Council of America, Dr. Ketch trained at Cornell Medical Center, with a fellowship at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center and a pain management elective at Boston Children’s Hospital. He has also worked to help develop new techniques in ambulatory anesthesia, taught medical students and residents, and cared for more than 10,000 patients.

Dr. Ketch is also the author of the children’s book Golden Apples (winner of the 2008 Reviewer’s Choice Award), a beautifully illustrated book that aims to help educate children about the dangers of drug abuse.

CliffsideMalibu.com Takes Privacy and Confidentiality Seriously

It has come to our attention that a 3rd party has written a Press Release about CliffsideMalibu.com without it’s authorization and in fact, wrongly stating that CliffsideMalibu.com had in fact written this Press Release. Nothing could be further from the truth. Without referring to the specific article but instead, posting our response on all of the websites that the previous article had been posted on we want to assure all past and future clients that no one at CliffsideMalibu.com would ever, in any way, shape or form enter into the practice of disclosing the identities of any of our cliental, no matter what the practice of other facilities claiming to be high end. Our statement is, always has been, and always will be, that we can neither confirm, nor deny, the admittance, past or present of anyone seeking private, confidential treatment at our facility.

It is clear CliffsideMalibu.com takes their client privacy and confidentiality very seriously. The facility is hidden away in a private, very exclusive part of Malibu. Not only is confidentiality of utmost importance due to the sensitivity of the treatment being provided there, but a great deal in fact because the patients that are treated at the center are often times very high profile. The owner, understanding this special need, wants to ensure that all of his patients can comfortably recover knowing that confidentiality is not a concern.

A quick visit to their site shows a client testimonials page, filled with an outpouring of gracious “thank you`s “, all signed with initialed last names or simply “Name Withheld”. Further demonstrating that their client names are always treated with seriousness in confidentiality.

With so many highly recognizable public figures finding themselves in need of addiction or disorder treatment programs, it`s no wonder the media and paparazzi have attempted to publicize and exploit the celebrity in need of such treatment. It`s easy to see such media frenzy has surrounded many of Hollywood`s elite, along with their attending treatment centers. Cliffside has recognized the risk in extending its services to the type of public figures that would bring the media and paparazzi swarming the facility. Not wanting to jeopardize the privacy of the other guests, they have even opted out of treating some high profile celebrities at their center. The guests at Cliffside can rest assured, knowing that the staff cares so much about their recovery they would deny service to high paying, Hollywood elite, before they would endanger the other guests safety and privacy.

I think it takes a special breed to own and operate a drug and alcohol treatment facility. You have to truly care for the people you are treating in order to cultivate a positive and effective environment. The patient’s successful recovery is paramount for the on-going success and reputation of the treatment facility itself. Cliffside`s staff has obviously come from that special breed. With a personalized treatment program guided by philosophy that boasts one-to-one patient/therapist interaction, coupled with the most peaceful and luxurious surroundings one can buy, it`s no wonder high profile public figures and local clients alike choose CliffsideMalibu.com as their treatment center. A great deal of the recovery process involves trust in the providers of that treatment. I am confident that trust has been earned and will continue to be given by all who have visited the Cliffside facilities.

This Press Release was written by Jenny Amato, a volunteer for CliffsideMalibu.com. For more information on the facilities drug rehab and other treatment programs, feel free to contact admissions@cliffsidemalibu.com or call 1-800-501-1988.

No Shots! No Medication! Long Beach, California Allergy Sufferers Relieved With New Laser Technology

AllergiCare™ Relief Centers of Long Beach www.AllergiCare.com/clinics/longbeach opened last week and patients have already seen tremendous success with the clinic’s new state-of-the-art laser technology.

The new technique, called “immune conditioning”, that is offered by the clinics is unique in that there are no scratch tests, allergy shots or medication involved. Instead, computer technology and laser therapy are used to eliminate negative reactions to what would ordinarily be a harmless substance.

“What makes our method of diagnosis and treatment different from other available treatments for allergy symptoms, such as allergy shots and medication,” says Long Beach clinic director Chris Turner, DC, “is that this technique enables us to better identify the specific allergen or sensitivity from our database of over 10,000 different substances. Through this identification, which is enabled by our unique computer system, we can relieve the patient’s sensitivities much more precisely, which in turn provides us with greater results”.

AllergiCare™ Relief Centers’ system assists the practitioner in the diagnosis and relief of allergy symptoms in a non-invasive, drug-free environment. This system has been shown effective with all types of allergies, including seasonal symptoms related to hay fever, pollen, grasses and trees; environmental substances such as pollutants, chemicals, dust and dust mites; food allergens such as fruit, dairy, and nuts; and pet allergens among others. AllergiCare™ Relief Centers addresses the problem at its source rather than just treating the symptoms.

“An allergy is simply an inappropriate response developed by your body as a result of some negative interaction with a certain substance” Dr. Turner explains. “This programmed response triggers a reaction within your body. These reactions may include sneezing, runny nose, itching, watery eyes, headaches and difficulty breathing. Other symptomatic diagnoses such as Irritable Bowel Syndrome, asthma, autoimmune conditions, chronic fatigue syndrome, psoriasis, acid reflux, fibromyalgia, and autism have also been very closely linked to underlying allergic reactions to various substances. Once a sensitivity to a particular substance is identified, our system works to neutralize that negative response so that future exposure to that substance no longer triggers these irritating reactions.”

Many patients notice significant results after receiving just a single treatment. As each treatment addresses only one substance category, allergies to multiple substances may require multiple treatments. The cost per treatment is very affordable when compared to other methods.

Drug Rehab – What Are Your Options

Options for drug rehab unveiled for the U.S. There are many different types of addictions out there.

Depending on what type of addiction you or your loved one is dealing with will depend on what type of treatment you are going to want to get. For example if you are addicted to alcohol you are going to want to go to an alcoholism treatment center. If you are dealing with a drug problem you are going to want to get help from a Drug Rehab facility.

There are a variety of different drugs that one can be addicted to. Not only can people get addicted to illegal drugs but also prescription drugs. More and more often it is occurring that people are getting addicted to prescription drugs because they can get them more often from their doctors.

Some people don’t even realize that they are addicted until it is too late. Some people get addicted by accident. For example they have a variety of surgeries one after another for one thing or another that causes them to be on prescription drugs for a long period of time.

Things that family members might start noticing are that your loved one keeps more to them self. They stop doing the things they use to love doing. They don’t hang out with friends anymore. They might start hanging out with people you would rather not have them hang out with. They start lying about things or making excuses for their behavior. They may also start acting sick a lot or saying they are in pain all of the time. The reason for this is so they can get prescription drugs from the doctor.

If you are seeing these signs or realize that you are doing these things yourself it might be time that you start looking into what is going on in yours or your loved ones life. This will help you to determine if there is a drug problem or not. In some circumstances the person that is being accused of having an addiction problem will not come out and admit that they have a problem. If this happens then you will probably need to get some more people involved and try to get down to what exactly is going on.

Once you have decided to get your loved one some help you will want to make sure that you look into all of your options. You will want to think about the pros and cons of every option available to you. You will want to make sure that you take into account how your loved one might react if they have to be put in a drug rehab facility. When you are looking at different drug rehab facilities you will want to make sure that you look at every aspect of what is involved. You will want to look at the different facilities and what type of staffing and activities they involve. You will want to look at where they are located at. Even if they are located in another state than which you live. Getting some one that has an addiction out of their own comfort zone may be a good thing depending on the circumstances. The reason for this is they might take it as they are starting over fresh. They may feel more like they are starting over new if they are not in their normal surroundings.

These are just some of the different things that you will want to take into consideration. When you are looking into taking the first step make sure that you really do some research about what type of help is out there beyond what you can do at home. Make sure that you get all of your questions answered.

About the Author: Chauntel Greenwald has been writing articles for years now. She loves what she does. She has done a lot of articles in the past about drug rehab. Over the years she has been able to learn a lot about drug rehab facilities which helps her to better understand the information that people who are searching for help are looking for.

From initial scan to discussing treatment options with the patient typically takes less than 2 minutes. At that point, I present the findings to the patient and present different treatment options with confidence. Critical information such as available osseous height and width, proximity to vital structures and adjacent teeth and potential need for grafting procedures are easily visualized by experienced users. In addition, the data collected will be used later for the virtual surgery within the NobelGuide software.

NobelGuide and Procera
Using NobelGuide enables me to diagnose and treatment plan every patient in a most efficient and predictable way. Once diagnostic appliances have been fabricated, the CAT-scan is used to place the implants in a virtual environment. Based on this information, a surgical template is fabricated, which transfers the virtual planning exactly to the patient’s anatomy, and implants can be delivered precisely, when indicated in a flapless approach. Simultaneously, interims restorations can be prefabricated and placed at the time of implant installation.

Once soft- and hard tissue remodeling has occurred, final impressions are taken. Restorations are completed using the Procera system, in either zirconia, alumina, or titanium, depending upon the patient’s needs and desires. Studies have shown that the marginal fit and strength of these restorations is superior to anything else on the market; in addition, the aesthetic outcome satisfies even the most critical patient.

Mac practice / Apple Computers
I have been a Mac aficionado since the introduction of the first Apple Macintosh. In a dental practice, it was hard to incorporate the Mac as most of the software was designed to run on PCs. We had a split system, PC for office administrative aspects, Macs for patient education, slide collection and organization, and for the preparation of lectures. Of course, any videos we took were handled on the Mac side as well. Then we switched our office administration software to MacPrcatice DDS, which was developed specifically for Mac OS X. Since then, we have eliminated most of our PCs, and most of the problems have gone away along with the PCs. All operatories, surgical suites, the treatment plan room, the front and back offices, all have their own Apple computers, and all share the same network. The support we receive from MacPrcatice is outstanding, and new developments keep on coming, like the iPhone interface, allowing me to check either the schedule, patient records or anything else that is documented in the system from any place in the world. The biggest advantage of using this system is the user friendliness that Macs are known for. With minimal training, motivated staff members can learn the intricacies of the system within a very short time.

Binocular Loupes
Magnification in dentistry is an absolute must – the first step in quality control. Since the beginning of my training in dentistry I am used to work with magnification, either at the bench or in the operatory. The right combination of comfortable glasses with adequate magnification and depth of field is hard to find among the many manufacturers. In addition, a headlight is needed in most cases where direct overhead light is either blocked or not in the same long axis. Using the most advanced combination of loupes and headlight, the Heine 3S unplugged, has made it easier for me to routinely see better, and thus being able to deliver better quality of care to my patients, all without any cable hanging off my back.

Medical Record Portable Storage Supports International Health Level Seven (HL7) Standards

Med Records to Go(tm) stores health information vital to medical professionals and emergency responders. A computer application called Med Records to Go(tm), that stores electronic medical records, can help reduce errors in emergency conditions, as well as in hospital or medical clinic admissions. Introduced by the Vital Record Corporation in November, 2006, Med Records to Go(tm) uses flash drive technology to record and store health information for emergency viewing by medical personnel and for electronic transmission to medical facilities using HL7 standards.

A new feature of the application allows electronic transmission of the stored medical records on the flash drive to medical facilities or offices in Clinical Document Architecture (CDA) format of the international HL7 standards. (See www.hl7.org). For electronic transmission of the CDA document, the application includes simple entry of the Internet address of the destination hospital or medical facility. If the stored medical records of the portable unit contain a digital photograph of the owner, it is included in the CDA document and in the transmission to a medical facility.

This new feature also includes the application option of creating and previewing the CDA document on the flash drive. A simple button click of the application automatically starts the installed Internet Browser (Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox, etc.) of the computer system for previewing the CDA document. In similar manner, the CDA XML source code can be previewed automatically with the installed system browser.

All software, controls, transmission features, and electronic medical records of Med Records to Go(tm) are contained in the portable storage unit. A temporary Internet connection is required to transmit a CDA medical record document to a medical facility or office. Otherwise, the health information is kept private and secure and not vulnerable to access on the public Internet. For additional security, the medical information stored on the portable unit is encrypted and cannot be read using any other application.

The additional cell phone feature of Med Records to Go(tm) incorporates the transmission of electronic medical records from the storage unit to a standard cell phone. A temporary Internet connection is also required to send the medical data in encrypted form to the Vital Record Corporation server before placement on the cell phone. In addition to data encryption, user identification and password controls are used for retrieving the medical data from the Vital Record server for storage on a cell phone.

Emergency medical personnel have immediate access to the health information because the information is automatically displayed (auto run) when the storage unit is plugged into the computer. Medical personnel can view the medical information by browsing the various pages contained within the storage unit. No special application knowledge is required for viewing the data since the standard Internet browser installed in the computer is used. Optionally, the health information of the storage unit can be transmitted by emergency personnel to any medical facility that supports the international HL7 standards.

Barack Obama Signs Proclamation Save Your Vision Week 2009 – BiCOM with Glaucoma Eye Test Diaton is Preparing to Help

Barack Obama, President of the United States of America proclaims March 1 through March 7, 2009, as Save Your Vision Week. BiCOM Inc home of Glaucoma Eye Test Diaton – non-contact Glaucoma Eye Test through the Eyelid is prepared to assist with vision screenings. Roman Iospa, CEO of BiCOM comments on Presidents support of glaucoma screenings. Early diagnosis and timely treatment are critical to minimize vision loss from eye diseases.

Proclamation by the president of the United Stated of America addresses the important issue of Blindness and visual impairment that affects millions of Americans. Early diagnosis and timely treatment are critical to minimize vision loss from eye diseases. During Save Your Vision Week – Barack Obama encourages all Americans to take action to prevent their vision loss.

BiCOM Inc. home of Glaucoma Eye Test Diaton Tonometer (IOP through the Eyelid), has been a long supporter of preventive glaucoma screenings. At a recent free glaucoma screening event where BiCOM in conjunction with SAVE Program (Sight for a Vision Exchange) and The Congressional Glaucoma Caucus Foundation conducted at New York City Children’s Services in honor of African American Heritage Celebration has revealed many with elevated intraocular pressure (IOP) a major risk factor for glaucoma. Patients were referred to an ophthalmologist Dr. Lynnette P. Williams-Young a glaucoma specialist for further evaluation.

Unfortunately, most people have limited knowledge of blinding eye disorders. Based on National Eye Institute 2005 study, only eight percent of respondents knew that glaucoma, a condition that can damage the optic nerve and cause vision loss and blindness, strikes without early warning. Similarly, glaucoma also begins as a silent vision threat; as per Prevent Blindness America, it is estimated that of those Americans that have glaucoma, only half know they have it. It is estimated that 60 million Americans are at risk for developing glaucoma.

Everyone should be screened, especially with availability of new non-invasive (over the eyelid) glaucoma screening technology aka “Glaucoma Eye Test” Diaton tonometer available to optometrists, ophthalmologists and general physicians, enabling doctors to quickly and painlessly screen individuals at risk.

Several demographic groups are at higher risk for visual impairment, including teenagers, diabetics, Hispanics, African Americans, and the economically disadvantaged. Older Americans are more susceptible to eye conditions such as age-related macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, and glaucoma. Children need regular vision screenings because vision disorders left untreated during childhood can lead to permanent visual impairment during adulthood.

President Obama stated, “Eye disease knows no bounds, and every American should take steps to protect his or her eyesight.”

To remind Americans about the importance of safeguarding their eyesight, the Congress, by joint resolution approved December 30, 1963, as amended (77 Stat. 629; 36 U.S.C. 138), has authorized and requested the President to proclaim the first week in March of each year as “Save Your Vision Week.”

“I’m pleased to see that President Barack Obama, with only weeks in the office is addressing an important issue of blindness, its early detection and timely treatment. My whole team at BiCOM Inc., and our partners are ready to continue our efforts and act on a larger scale by reaching out to many more people through awareness, training, glaucoma screening events and making “Glaucoma Eye Test” Diaton tonometer available to all that are willing to participate,“ said Roman Iospa, CEO of BiCOM Inc.

From the website of the White House:http://www.whitehouse.gov/the_press_office/Save-Your-Vision-Week-2009/

“NOW, THEREFORE, I, BARACK OBAMA, President of the United States of America, do hereby proclaim March 1 through March 7, 2009, as Save Your Vision Week. During this time, I invite eye care professionals, teachers, members of the media, and all organizations dedicated to preserving eyesight to join in activities that will raise awareness of vision diseases and disorders.”

Lumineers: Some Common Misconceptions

We, at Smile South Florida Cosmetic Dentistry, pride ourselves on giving you the highest level of customer service and latest technology in dentistry offered today. We are always upfront with our patients and treat them as if they are all a part of our dental family.

Our goal is to educate patients on some common misconceptions in dental marketing that can be misleading and not give the entire story. One such example is with the popular brand Lumineers by Cerinate.

Lumineers are considered a type of porcelain veneer “smile shaper” that boasts catch phrases such as “no reduction of tooth structure (no filing down of teeth), no shots, 2 easy dental visits, permanently whitens” and many others. While these statements can have some string of truth behind them, in most cases this will not be the situation –not if you ask any top cosmetic dental professional.

While the popular Lumineers can, in very few situations, be completed in 2 easy visits with little to no pain, drilling, and preparation, this is not going to be necessarily true for everyone. It all depends on the condition of the teeth, and what the best treatment scenario would be to give the best aesthetic outcome. If a patient has very bulky teeth and wanted to place even the “contact lense thin” Lumineer shell over the tooth, some preparation and drilling would be necessary for the outcome to have a better, less bulky look. There are other situations where the patient would not be a candidate for Lumineers. It would all need to be determined by a cosmetic dentist.

As far as the color and shade of the Lumineers, there is not a variety of color choiceslike traditional veneers. Veneers colors and shades are specifically selected by the doctor and the patient together so that the best result is achieved. With Lumineers, there is no variation so everyone will get the same result regardless of what the best color/shade would be for each individual person.

If you look at the before and after photos featured on the Lumineers website, you will see some improvements in the look of the teeth after Lumineers have been used. I am not discrediting that they can make a change in people’s dental aesthetics; however, compared to traditional veneers and crowns, the differences are very substantial. If you look at our smile galleries and the before and after pictures, you can compare the dramatic differences in the quality of the aesthetics for our patients.

When you are thinking of a south florida dentist or a dentist in florida for Lumineers treatment, make sure you do your research to make an informed decision, and consult a dental professional that has done extensive quality veneers cases.

The dentists at Smile South Florida Cosmetic Dentistry have offices in Broward County and Boca Raton and provide patients Boca Raton Cosmetic Dentistry, Fort LauderdaleCosmetic Dentistry, and Miami Cosmetic Dentistry. The dentists specialize in porcelain veneers, dental implants, extreme makeovers, Invisalign, and sedation dentistry.

Lexington Medical Center and Providence Hospitals Reach Significant Agreement

After several months of discussions, Lexington Medical Center and Providence Hospitals are pleased to announce the terms of an agreement that advances both of their efforts to improve health care delivery in the Midlands of South Carolina. Specifically, Providence Hospitals will support Lexington Medical Center’s efforts to secure an open heart surgery program and Lexington Medical Center will drop its objections to a proposed expansion at Providence Hospitals Northeast.

Under the terms of this agreement, Providence Hospitals will support Lexington Medical Center in seeking regulatory approval through a joint Certificate of Need (CON) application. Within the application, Lexington Medical Center will request approval for one open heart surgery suite and the authority to perform open heart surgery and therapeutic cardiac catheterizations. If approved by the South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control (DHEC), Providence Hospitals will de-license one of its open heart surgery suites, allowing Lexington Medical Center to add a suite, in keeping with the 2008-2009 State Health Plan.

Lexington Medical Center has dismissed its lawsuit which opposes Providence Hospitals’ plans to expand and improve its existing Northeast facility. Additionally, Lexington Medical Center, upon licensing of the new heart program, would provide $15 million over a three-year period to Providence Hospitals in consideration of de-licensing one open heart surgery suite. Those funds will allow Providence Hospitals to reinvest in technologies and equipment for other service lines.

Lexington Medical Center’s unique situation as the only hospital located within Lexington County, with one of the state’s busiest emergency departments and a busy diagnostic catheterization lab, supports the need for a full service open heart surgery program to perform open heart surgery and therapeutic catheterizations. This agreement will allow Lexington to obtain such a program for the citizens of Lexington County.

Providence Hospitals believes that this joint CON application will not create new capacity in the open heart market, since no new open heart surgery rooms are being added to the service area. In addition, Providence believes that collaborating with LMC on the delivery of health care services and preserving the integrity of the health planning process is in the long term best interests of the Midlands community. While each of the hospitals will continue to be strong health care competitors, they may now also be able to explore additional strategies that would serve to improve patient care.

Providence Hospitals President and CEO George Zara noted the impact of working collaboratively in coming to a resolution on the issue. “In keeping with our faith-based mission, it is incumbent that we move past these conflicts to focus on our common goals of providing quality patient care.”

Mike Biediger, Lexington Medical Center’s president and CEO commented on the joint agreement, “For years, it has been our priority to make cardiovascular care more accessible to the people of Lexington County. We are now one step closer to achieving that goal. We fully expect that this agreement will allow us to address acute cardiac events in a more timely fashion, ultimately saving more lives.”

According to Thad Westbrook, chairman of Lexington Medical Center’s board of directors, “This agreement has been a long time coming and is an important milestone for citizens of Lexington County and the Midlands. The need for a full service open heart program for the people of Lexington County has never been greater, and we now see that our dreams may soon be realized thanks to this agreement with our colleagues at Providence Hospitals.”

Providence Hospitals’ board chairman Michael Kapp is optimistic about the understanding the two hospitals have reached. “I firmly believe that this marks a turning point in the relationship between Providence Hospitals and Lexington Medical Center. We have put aside our differences in order to pursue initiatives that will advance the delivery of quality health care for the people of the Midlands.”

Both Providence Hospitals and Lexington Medical Center appreciate the volunteer assistance of Mr. Frank Mood, senior vice president & general counsel for SCANA, during the mediation process.

Safe Landing For Fallen Addicts

Revolutionary techniques and training utilized in therapy sessions at Cliffside Malibu provide addicts with a new outlook on life. This drug treatment center lies just outside the hustle and bustle of the Los Angeles area. In terms of what the center has to offer its patients, the surroundings seem like a world apart from the much more famous Los Angeles area.

Upon arrival patients will find competent staff members that are well versed in the area of drug treatment.

Staff stand ready with open arms to welcome patients who are ready and willing to make that all important first step towards recovery. Therapy sessions are conducted on an individual and group basis. Other forms of therapy utilized by the center include massage therapy and integrating horses into a unique hands-on therapy that helps patients deal with the obstacles they are faced with and make a fresh start.

Cliffside Malibu does not believe that drug rehabilitation should be a carbon cut template process. That is no two patients should be treated for the same addiction in the same manner. The center goes to great lengths to establish an individual rehabilitation program that caters to who the person is as an individual. The generalization of the addiction behavior is left out of the recovery process.

Patients are evaluated by a primary therapist that will determine the best course of action in terms of the rehabilitation process. Each patient recovery program developed for drug rehabilitation starts with a determination of how the patient can best be treated for the addiction behavior. As this is being completed, therapists try to pinpoint if a second addiction also exists with the patient. The initial addiction is treated first and then subsequent ones after that.

Additional support reaches out to the patient’s family through a 3 day family recovery program as well. Through the three day process, Cliffside Malibu works with the family to repair the damage done by the patient’s addiction. Nothing will be fixed overnight but it is a step in the right direction towards healing the entire family. It is an essential part of the drug treatment recovery program that ensures a patient returns to a supportive environment once the treatment program has been completed.

Accommodations are not what one thinks of when the words “drug treatment center” is mentioned. Cliffside Malibu is not a typical rehab center. Several of the common areas in the center feature 180 degree views of the Pacific Ocean. There are areas isolated for meditation, relaxation as well as other recreations such as games and working out. Personal chefs are available to provide nutritious meals. Patient rooms offer all the comforts of home without harming treatment being received.

Some may criticize making accommodations comfortable and providing patients with activities such as hikes, walks on the beach and yoga classes. Staff at Cliffside Malibu would strongly disagree. Patients who enter drug rehabilitation are not being punished for the choices they have made in life. It is the direct opposite. They are working hard in therapy and other treatment aspects of the program to make a fresh start in life. Cliffside Malibu believes that providing comfort outside of the therapy setting can enhance all the hard work being done inside the therapy rooms. As patients feel comfort and safety, they are more likely to open up in therapy. By opening up, they are allowing the healing to begin and therefore working to rid themselves and their life of addictive behaviors.

Cliffside Malibu keeps all inquiries and patient information confidential and patients are ensured a welcoming, safe place to leave the destruction behind and create a brand new life once leaving the center. Additional information can be found online at www.cliffsidemalibu.com and via email at: admissions@cliffsidemalibu.com.

About Cliffside Malibu: Cliffside Malibu provides full scale treatment programs for a wide range of addictions. Staff is professional and discreet in dispensing the best course of action that serves an individual need to ensure the right course of action is taken the first time around. This ensures a successful second start to life in a healthy, happy, non-addictive manner.
