Locating The Best Suited Alcohol Abuse Treatment For You In California

The best drug treatment center is the one that cares most deeply about its individual clients. Alcohol addiction is a personal problem, and alcohol abuse treatment must be a personal process. If you’re going to get sober, it’s going to be on your own terms, in a way that’s meaningful to you and no one else. The alcohol abuse treatment program that’s right for you is the one that can help you do exactly that.

There are plenty of alcohol abuse treatment facilities in Los Angeles. Unfortunately, they aren’t all equally committed to meeting the individual needs of their individual residents. On the contrary, many of the most “exclusive” rehabs in California offer the same generic alcohol abuse treatment programs to every patient who seeks their help. As should go without saying, these institutions can’t be trusted to produce meaningful or lasting alcohol recovery.

The good news here is that the best alcohol abuse treatment center in Malibu is different. The center’s exclusive alcohol abuse treatment programs are designed on a case-by-case basis, with the explicit goal of helping clients heal from the inside-out. That patient-centered approach helps to explain why the center’s residents enjoy such a robust rate of success. It should also leave no doubt as to where your interests will be best be served. Successful alcohol rehab will quite literally change your life. Here’s hoping you’ll be wise enough to learn that truth for yourself.

BestDrugTreatmentCenter.com provides information on one of the best alcohol and drug abuse centers in the world, where treatment programs involve individual privacy, luxury and a unique drug treatment therapy plan. If you’d like more information about a drug or alcohol abuse treatment center for you, please call 1-877-822-2307, visit our website athttp://www.bestdrugtreatmentcenter.com/, or contact us at admissions@bestdrugtreatmentcenter.com.

Narconon Holistic Alcohol Rehab Programs With the Highest Success Rates

Beating an addition to alcohol isn’t easy, which is why those suffering should seek treatment from a program with a proven track record. Seventy percent of alcoholics who graduate from the Narconon program are still sober five years after treatment, compared to the average 15 to 20 percent success rates of traditional 28-day programs. Narconon VistaBay combines physical detoxification with cognitive therapy to achieve these amazing results, and the fixed cost with no time limit ensures that an alcoholic can heal at his own pace.

The first step toward helping an alcoholic reach his goal of sobriety involves clearing the alcohol from his system. This isn’t as simple as stopping drinking and waiting for the effects to subside. Alcohol, like drugs, leave residues in the system. Those residues are stored in fatty tissues then released later, which can trigger mental and physical cravings. Through daily sauna treatments, exercise and vitamin supplements, Narconon Vista Bay helps the alcoholic rids his body of all traces of alcohol. With the residues gone, the chances of succeeding as a sober individual increase.

Once the alcoholic has gotten clean, the Narconon program begins to look at the causes of the addiction. Through individual and group therapy, the client studies the behaviors and relationships that were a part of his former life as an addict. He must recognize that they lead to his alcohol abuse, before he can move toward life as a sober member of society. Once he has accepted his role in the addiction, he can begin to learn new life skills that will help him to cope in ways other than the abuse of alcohol. The lovely setting of Placerville, in the Sierra Foothills, comes into play at this point for Narconon VistaBay clients. The small-town atmosphere provides low-stress outings, such as supervised shopping and hiking trips.

In addition to its drug-free, holistic approach, Narconon Vista Bay also differs from other alcohol addiction programs with its length-of-stay flexibility. No two people are the same, which means no two alcoholics will recover at the same pace and during the same time period. Traditional, 28-day programs exist at that length simply because that is what most insurance companies will cover. With its fixed cost, no time limit approach, Narconon Vista Bay allows the alcoholic to stay until he is healthy and whole. Graduates of the Narconon program say the combination of a mind-body approach and the relaxed, heal at your own pace attitude are what helped them find another way to live.

Try Narconon Holistic Drug Free Drug Addiction Recovery Program for a Permanent Solution

It doesn’t make sense to treat drug addiction with a drug, so Narconon VistaBay doesn’t do it. The Narconon holistic drug rehab program instead focuses on detoxification of the addict’s body as part of an approach that also addresses the reasons for the addiction in the first place. The peaceful setting of Narconon VistaBay – beautiful Placerville, California – also contributes to the high success rate of the facility.

Try Narconon Holistic Drug Free Drug Addiction Recovery Program for a Permanent Solution

Narconon VistaBay begins by creating a personalized program for each client. First, an addict must rid his body of drug metabolites. With prolonged drug use, a person’s body loses the ability to rid itself of all drug residues. These residues, or metabolites, are stored in fatty tissue and released into the bloodstream months, even years, after the initial drug use. Metabolites trigger mental and physical cravings in an addict, even if he has long been sober. The Narconon holistic drug rehab program includes daily sauna therapy and exercise, plus vitamin supplements, to rid the addict’s body of drug metabolites. The results are immediate: reduction or elimination of cravings and improved mental abilities.

Once the client has cleaned up his body, the staff at Narconon VistaBay begins to help him clean up his behavior. Through cognitive therapy, the addict studies his addiction lifestyle and thought processes. He also examines his relationships with friends and family. Once the client fully recognizes and accepts how his behaviors lead to a life of addiction, then he learns new life skills that will help him to cope as a sober member of society and to regain his self-worth. Supervised hiking and shopping trips in and around the small town of Placerville help the client rejoin society at a slow, peaceful pace.

Team EyeCare 20/20 Members Predicted to Win Multiple Medals in Vancouver

Team LASIK-FOR-THE-GOLD, is a collection of champion Olympic athletes from across the country who have all had LASIK vision correction surgery by Cary M. Silverman, M.D., Medical Director of EyeCare 20/20.

With exactly one month to go to the start of the Winter Olympic Games, American athletes are scattered around the globe, some are desperately looking to secure their spot on the team, others making the final preparations of a never ending quest to deliver their life’s best performance next month in Vancouver, when it matters most. With the clock ticking, the LASIK-For-The-Gold Winter Olympians appear poised to bring home their share of Olympic hardware. Here is an update on each of the world class athletes who are patients of Cary M. Silverman, M.D. and the team of eye care professionals at EyeCare 20/20:

Katherine Reutter (short track speedskating) – Reutter is now a 17-time world cup medalist who is locked-n-loaded for her Olympic debut. She will compete in four different events and is considered to be one of Team USA’s most likely Olympic medalists.

Chad Hedrick (speedskating) – Already a gold, silver and bronze medalist from the 2006 Olympics in Torino, Hedrick has recently returned to his championship form and earned medals in both of his last two world cup events, including a gold medal in Calgary, Canada in December. Hedrick will square off against fellow American Shani Davis in the 1500 meters at this year’s Games in what promises to be one of the must-see showdown events of the 2010 Winter Olympics.

Curt Tomasevicz (bobsled) – A pusher behind U.S. driver Steve Holcomb in Team U.S.A.’s number one sled the ‘Night Train’, Tomasevicz and his teammates are on the podium more often than they are off of it. They are considered the team to beat when the Olympic medals are on the line next month.

Eric Pac (bobsled) – Long since considered ‘likely to make the Olympic Team’, Pac has recently shown that simply getting to the Olympics isn’t good enough. A world cup bronze medal in Salt Lake City in November turned heads on the international bobsled circuit and marked Pac as someone to keep an eye on in Vancouver. She currently holds a 5th place ranking in the overall World Cup standings.

Molly Engstrom (hockey) – A bronze medalist at the 2006 Olympics, a World Champion, and a long time member of the U.S. National Team, Engstrom and her teammates are highly likely to do battle with the host Canadian team with gold medals on the line. In this heated international rivalry, silver doesn’t count.

Dan Joye (luge) – Joye, who is part of the doubles luge team of Niccum & Joye, will enter the Games, his second Olympics, as part of the number one ranked U.S. sled. A recent world cup fourth place finish marked the team’s best ever placing – one step up in Vancouver will put Joye on the podium. For more information about any of the Team EyeCare 20/20 athletes, visit: www.LASIKForTheGold.com

Narconon Vistabay – Drug Rehab Programs with the Highest Success Rates

When drug use and alcohol use interfere with family, work, and social activities, it’s time to seek treatment from a successful addiction recovery center. Drug and alcohol addiction are serious issues that need to be addressed with the help of professionals who can help the addict recover and live a productive life as a sober individual. Narconon is the addiction recovery program with the highest success rate, over other types of alcohol and drug addiction treatment program options. The Narconon approach uses holistic methods to detoxify the body of all the harmful toxins that alcohol and drugs introduced to it, and it replenishes vitamins and minerals that are key to good health.

Drug abuse comes in many forms, whether it is cocaine, marijuana, hallucinogens, crystal meth or even prescription medication. All cause damage to your liver, kidneys, brain, and lungs. The sooner an addiction is addressed, the less damage will be done and the more ill effects can be reversed. Even if the addict has been using drugs for 30 years, sobriety will help slow down if not stop the damage that has occurred from the alcohol and drugs that they put into their bodies. Narconon Vistabay is able to provide professional care for their clients throughout the recovery process. From detox to graduation, the counselors and staff will do what it takes to help an addict recover and feel good about leaving their rehabilitation ready to start a new life, without drugs and alcohol.

One past graduate has this to say about the Narconon program:“Freedom is a precious gift. All the technology we are learning here will help us live a free life. The program doesn’t work unless it is applied and followed in life. I value myself, my freedom, and my group. I already know that the program works and it has saved my life as I know it has for others.” -J.A. Narconon Graduate

Narconon Vista Bay is located in S. Lake Tahoe amongst the beauty of nature and has amenities that make it feel less like an alcohol and drug rehabilitation center and more like a retreat. For more than 30 years, the Narconon program has helped countless numbers of people worldwide successfully overcome their addictions to drugs and alcohol. By using a holistic approach to addiction treatment, addicts are able to overcome their addictions without becoming addicted to another substance.

If there is a need for addiction recovery, choice matters. There are many methods of addiction therapy and what may work for one, may not work for another. If a drug-free holistic approach to addiction recovery is what is desired, the Narconon program has the highest success rate for long-term recovery. If you have questions about Narconon and how the program works, please visit VistaBay.com or CalNarconon.Org, where you’ll also find out more about Narconon Vista bay, its surroundings, the amenities and the programs that a person expect; Call 800-556-8885 if you would like to speak to a counselor.

Drug Addiction And Alcoholism Treatment During The Holidays

Drug Rehab Center Offers Holiday Season Insights to family members with loved ones in recovery and a survival list for those in recovery. The holiday season has historically acted like a trigger for many people’s addiction and alcoholism and can be a source of a lot of stress and fear for families and loved ones. Learn what you can do to make this holiday season a successful, calm and sober one.

Apart from the warm and merry imagery of the holiday season perfectly captured in paintings by Currier Ives and Norman Rockwell, there is also a sad and less publicized side that makes the holidays very difficult for many Americans. With over 20 million Americans in need of treatment for drug addiction or alcohol abuse, the holiday season is often marked by isolation, fear, tension, and increased drug use and or alcohol abuse.

There are millions of people in this country that suffer from substance abuse issues and millions more that are in active recovery and or in rehabilitation centers across America. These individuals serve as support systems to one another and encourage each other to stay clean and sober. As we enter the upcoming holidays, many families and individuals are fearful and nervous about what to expect. Mountainside Drug Addiction Treatment Center has weighed in and listed the following common pitfalls to avoid and suggestions to follow to make the holiday season a happy and sober one for those in early recovery.

For People In Recovery:
You should not let the holiday season become an excuse for you to drink or use drugs. It is important to honestly recognize that not all holiday events / social situations are created equal; some come with invariably higher risk to your sobriety than others. It is imperative that before you commit to attending any social situation / get-together or even family event, that you make a thorough and honest assessment of all possible risks and other issues that may be present and discuss these with someone in recovery and devise a plan to ensure your sobriety. You will need to develop a healthy fear of picking up a drink or a drug and channel it into a solid plan that will allow you to enjoy the holidays clean and sober and have resolute understanding about what situations to avoid. Many people that have issues with addiction have successfully learned to adjust to all social situations, and many cite their success on a few simple rules and guidelines:

What to divulge: You don’t ever have to tell someone why you don’t want a drink. You can simply say, “No thanks.” You can discuss why you aren’t drinking if you choose. If someone starts pressuring you to drink, it’s time to walk away.

Bring a Friend and ensure support: Find a friend to accompany you to a party who understands your situation or take along a friend who is also in recovery. Remember that a lot of people do not drink and that no one knows that you are in recovery unless you tell them. Think of the list of people that will be attending and identify someone that you feel safe with. These tactics allows you to feel less alone in your situation which can curb anxiety.

Plan to have a way out: There are many twelve step meetings throughout the holiday season – identify a meeting for each day and at various times in the day. When it comes to the time of a party or social situation where there will be alcohol present or other pressures, prepare to have plans that will allow you to leave for something else. It is better to have safety-plans and not need them, then to need them and not have them.

Your house, your rules: If you are hosting a holiday event or attending a family function you have every right to make it an alcohol-free event or to simply not attend. If you are attending a party and the host has vetoed alcohol than don’t bring any. They have their reasons for having an alcohol-free party and you need to respect their wishes.

Call your Sponsor: Most twelve step based networks and addiction treatment programs offer Sponsors to help you through new situations. A Sponsor may have been in this situation at some point in their recovery and will share their experience. If you have a Sponsor, call her/him before you attend the party to help you. If you don’t have a sponsor – get a temporary one and have the number ready. Check –in: One very helpful tool is to step away from the party or family situation at regular interval and call someone in recovery. You should not wait for a hot situation to develop for you to call – call if things are going good, bad or indifferent. Commit to staying in contact with a recovering person.

Alka-thon: Any person in recovery has the option to participate in an alka-thon which is an all day 12-step based meeting event. It allows the individual to have support through-out the entire holiday. These meetings are twenty-four hours and open to anyone dealing with issues of addiction.

Sober Holiday Parties: People in the program often throw sober parties. If you are a newcomer, ask what others are doing for the holiday season and see if you can join them. Avoid being alone. Be vocal and speak up – you are not alone.

Bring your own drinks: Bring your own bottle of sparkling water, soda or other non-alcoholic beverage that you will be drinking. Don’t feel pressured to have to bring an alcoholic beverage – it is not your place to bring alcohol.

Stay Away: Stay away from situations that are alcohol related. “Come late. Leave early” is a common slogan for people in recovery. It is important to remember that you are heading for danger if you are placing yourself in situations that surround alcohol. As the saying goes: “If you keep going to the barber shop, you are bound to get your hair cut!”

For Families or Loved Ones:
If you have a loved one that you’re concerned about this holiday season there are many ways for a family member to support their loved ones during this time. There are some needed steps for tackling issues that present themselves when a newly sober person is dealing with a holiday.

Alcoholic Beverages – Do not make an issue of whether you decide not to serve or serve alcoholic beverages. If you can refrain from serving alcoholic beverages around someone in early recovery, then this is the best situation. If you do plan on serving alcohol, ensure that you have plenty of non-alcoholic beverages (juice, sparkling water, soda, etc) for the person in recovery [ AVOID non-alcoholic beverages – these are not for people in recovery ]. Try to make sure that the person in recovery is not singled out for not drinking alcohol– or being the only person not drinking – offer your quiet support by not drinking alcohol.

Alanon: Attend a family based program. Information is the key and can inform the family of the nature of addiction and how they can take care of themselves and their loved ones. Family members need support just like the person suffering with the disease of addiction. It is important for the family to understand the three C’S: Cannot cure, Cause, or Control. Acceptance that addiction is a disease is imperative to supporting the person dealing with addiction.

Stay Sober: Family members can stay sober with their loved ones as a form of support during the holiday season. Attend a meeting with the family member only if the person is open to it.

Have support / crisis plan: Have a pre-meditated plan in place so that if an issue does arise you can deal with it quickly. It is important to communicate with other loved ones that are aware of the situation so that everyone is on message.

Ask what you can do as a means of support: Ask how you can better support you loved one by having a private and candid discussion prior to the holiday.

Mountainside Cites That Heroin And Opiate Use Is On The Rise

The numbers of individuals entering inpatient drug rehab for heroin and opiate addiction continues to increase. In Afghanistan and Pakistan the opium (heroin) trade is tightly controlled by al Qaeda and the Taliban, and despite the war the efforts, the production of heroin and opium has dramatically increased – heroin is still dirt-cheap and readily purchased on the streets of Kabul and sold in short distance of military barracks. This phenomena has caused many analysts to be alarmed that our troops, reacting to the stress of war and ease of access of drugs, may develop drug habits like many of the soldiers in the Vietnam era.

The prevalence of cheap heroin has become a major issue in this country for teenagers who have begun experimenting with the drug as it is often cheaper and easier to buy than alcohol. Last year more than 46 people died from heroin overdoses in Nassau County, NY – this represents a 75 percent year over year increase. One of these individuals was Natalie Ciappa, a National Honor Society member at her high school on Long Island.

Recently, this past Wed, more than 1,000 parents gathered at a hosted forum in Smithtown, NY to voice their support and concern for the drug problem.

Directly correlated to the increase in heroin addiction has been the number of deaths by people using methadone. Many individuals who enter heroin rehab, also have tried methadone. A recent study published by the National Drug Intelligence Center (DIC indicates a 390% increase in deaths due to methadone since 1999. Increase in methadone deaths attributed to the drugs emerging popularity for use with chronic pain sufferers as well as increased diversion (stealing from legitimate sources and diverting to the street for illegal consumption).

The highest overdose rate was experienced among those between the ages of 15 – 24.

Opiate addiction or dependence which is recognized as a central nervous system disorder, can affect anyone from any walk of life. Opiate addiction is essentially what happens after someone intakes opiods such as Heroin, Oxycontin, Percocet and others for extended periods of time causing the brain to stop producing the vital chemical dopamine (the body’s natural response to pain as well as other physical activities) which in turn causes an uncontrollable urge for that person to have to ingest more of the drug they had been taking just to feel “normal”.

Opiate dependence while chemically the same as addiction more often occurs in people who have suffered from chronic or severe pain and have to be on this type of medication for an extended period of time. Normally to avoid any unpleasant effects the person’s physician will taper them off of the medication so the patient’s brain function has a chance to return to normal. Once the brain is actively producing dopamine and as long as the patient is no longer in pain, the medication is no longer medically needed.

Take Rehab Seriously Or Run The Risk Of Never Beating Addiction

Addiction is both a physical and psychological disease. Addiction treatment, then, must promote both physical and psychological healing. The only successful rehab facilities are those which help their clients get better in mind as well as in body. In the end, there’s no other route to meaningful and lasting wellness.

Those considerations, in turn, are at the heart of Sunset Malibu’s treatment philosophy.

With its world-class caregivers and elegant accommodations, Sunset Malibu is an unparalleled recovery destination. The center has always catered to upscale clients from every corner of the globe. Now Sunset is renewing its commitment to its core values, with the goal of delivering life-changing comprehensive care to individuals who seek it. At Sunset Malibu, the client always comes first.

“Every one of our clients comes to us with some sort of emotional problem,” said Sunset Malibu Program Director Dr. Georgina Smith. “It’s our job to ensure that that problem gets solved, in order to lay a solid foundation for the long-term recovery process. With everything from advanced dual-diagnosis techniques to intensive depression treatment, we make it our mission to help patients heal from the inside-out.”

Unfortunately, that passion for holistic healing is precisely what sets Sunset apart from its competitors.

Most treatment facilities pay lip service to the importance of holistic recovery. But very few of them live up to their own promises. The truth is that many of the most “exclusive” clinics in California only target the physical symptoms of addiction. More often than not, those facilities fail to help clients get better for good.

Under the circumstances, argues Dr. Smith, those shortcomings are inexcusable.

“Addiction ruins lives,” Dr. Smith said. “Addiction treatment can save them-but only if it’s administered with empathy and expertise. We stop at nothing to ensure that our clients receive the best possible support along the road to wellness. To do anything less would be to forsake our personal and professional obligations.”

Substance abuse is an increasingly prevalent problem in the United States and around the world. The good news here is that it doesn’t have to be a fatal one. Sunset Malibu has proven itself capable of helping clients rediscover the world as they used to know it, before addiction stripped them of their hope and joy and dignity. It’s hard to imagine that any service could ever possibly be more valuable than that one.

Co-operative Pharmacy Offers Free Hearing Tests

The Co-Operative Pharmacy has pledged to provide free hearing tests at a number of their branches throughout the UK. The proposal is a part of a new audiology service being trialled in selected branches in the UK as an effort to help those with hearing problems get the treatment they need.

Many UK patients do not notice any deterioration in their hearing and it is hoped that by having these sessions made available that the Co-Operative Pharmacy can help identify who may need a hearing aid.

If after taking part in the free hearing test that the patient is identified as having hearing difficulties then they will then be offered advice on purchasing a hearing aid, either privately or being referred to a GP if they wish to get one via the National Health Service.

For patients opting to purchase privately they will be able to have their hearing aid fitted within 3 weeks and free follow up appointments to make sure everything is fine at their pharmacy.

The Co-Operative aims to have the service in 80 of its branches nationwide with fully qualified audiologists available twice a month for consultations by September 2009.

Three Alternative Scenarios of the Future In Vitro Diagnostics Market, 2009-2018

Venture Planning Group is pleased to announce completion of the new multiclient study, “Three Alternative Scenarios of the Future In Vitro Diagnostics Market, 2009-2018.” The report is designed to assist executives in the diagnostics industry in formulating policy alternatives that will provide the best choice among possible courses of action.

Venture Planning Group

The major thrust of the study is to clarify future consequences of the current developments in the absence of unforeseeable events, and expose the very different actions and policies that would be required by diagnostic product suppliers if the market moves in any of the three directions.

Each scenario is built around a specific theme with a particular set of assumptions. Business-As-Usual Scenario assumes that the current trends will continue without significant interruptions. Economic Austerity Scenario is predicated upon a significant rise in cost-containment pressures by all payers determined to drastically curtail not only the intensity of health care services, but the size of the industry as well. Technological Breakthroughs Scenario assumes a series of successful developments and commercialization of a number of diagnostic technologies and products occurring during 2009-2018.

This study will help diagnostics industry executives and companies planning to diversify into the diagnostics field to bring about more flexible planning, reduce surprises, and add to ways of improving the ability to cope with the future.

Mice May Hold Key To Parkinson’s Disease

Recently, scientists at the Weill Cornell Medical School were able to recreate the symptoms of Parkinson’s disease in mice, leading some to believe that a breakthrough in treating the ailment could be just around the corner.

According to a study in the journal Nature Neuroscience, the research involved creating an animal model of Parkinson’s in mice so that scientists can focus on preventing the progression of the disease rather than just on treating its symptoms.

“This research is a huge step for the Parkinson’s community,” says Kay Mixson Jenkins, author of Who Is Pee Dee? Explaining Parkinson’s Disease to a Child. “With efforts like these, Parkinson’s patients have hope that funding and time are going into meaningful steps towards an eventual cure.”

Ms. Jenkins, founder of the non-profit Parkinson’s in the Park, was diagnosed with the disease when she was just thirty-four. She wrote Who Is Pee Dee? for kids who may be asking, “What is Parkinson’s disease?” or, “What are Parkinson’s disease symptoms?”

The book follows a young boy named Colt as he tries to deal with his mother’s illness. It’s the kind of story Ms. Jenkins hopes will be made obsolete by the research being done with mice at Weill Cornell.

“I hope that researchers continue to get funding both private and public,” says Ms. Jenkins, whose book includes a discussion of some of the following symptoms:
• The constant fatigue created by the struggle to control body movement.
• The loss of coordination when doing even simple tasks
• The anger and resentment that can come from feeling overwhelmed

During these lectures, physicians will talk about persons who have experienced healing and freedom from long lasting, severe and chronic diseases in a miraculous way. Medical documents will be presented; the experts will explain the intricacies of a superior healing power that has been widely forgotten in modern medicine. The teachings of Bruno Groening (1906-1959), who became world famous due to extraordinary healings in the fifties, are taken as a basis for the lectures. Bruno Groening said time and again: “There is no incurable – God is the greatest physician”. He spoke about a higher power that he called the healing stream, life power or divine energy. This power is abundantly available for everyone. The knowledge about how to make use of this power is passed on free of charge in the worldwide non-profit, volunteer based organization of the Bruno Groening Circle of Friends.

The work of the MWF is supported by some well-known people in the United States, e.g. Dr. Christiane Northrup and Dr. Carl Simonton. Link to information online: http://www.bruno-groening.org/english/lectures2009.htm.

Wrongful Convictions Of Physicians By Department Of Health (NYSDOH) Linked To Patient Mortality

The proliferation of wrongful convictions in New York State prompted the NYS Bar Association to create a Blue Ribbon task force to study its systemic, procedural and statutory causes, and to propose solutions. Indeed, a report by the Innocence Project found New York State to be the national leader, outpacing all other states in its rate of wrongful convictions. The Blue Ribbon findings, embodied in a document entitled “ Final Report of the New York State Bar Association’s Task Force on Wrongful Convictions” was unanimously endorsed by the Association’s House of Delegates on April 4.

The findings of the Task Force provide a disturbing commentary on flagrant errors by the New York State judicial system, leading to convictions of innocent individuals. In over 50% of cases, the failures of government practices – such as misconduct by prosecutors – were to blame for the wrongful convictions.

Wrongful convictions do not solely implicate the New York State criminal justice system. They are reportedly rife in the legal practices of the NYS Department of Health (NYSDOH), known for ignoring due process and abusing power in its disciplinary actions against physicians. Several bills aiming to redress these inequities were all vetoed. Reported among many of these due process violations is the denying of witnesses for phy sicians’ defense, the use of tainted judges, and the coaching of plaintiffs by prosecutors to lie – indeed, “winning” cases is vital for their career advancement. Especially targeted in these malicious prosecutions are physicians practicing complementary medicine. One physician who wished to remain anonymous for fear of retribution remarked, “Convicting doctors is a cinch: just don’t allow them any witnesses; then the Department is free to make up whatever it wants.”

The tragedy of wrongful convictions in matters of health care affects far more than physicians. The plight of patients suddenly obliged to forgo the continuity of their medical care by the forcible removal of their long term physicians via the challenging of their license is illustrated in press and Internet releases entitled, “Patient Mortality Linked to Judicial Errors.” Noted are certain fragile patients who, “vulnerable, sick, alone, frightened and suddenly deprived of their main lifeline (their physician), became acutely demoralized, refused referrals to other doctors or failed to bond with them, eventually giving up their will to live and neglecting their medical needs.” One physician reported the untimely deaths of 7 patients, including one from suicide, the rapid decline of 8 Alzheimer’s and the relapses of 12 psychiatric patients leading to their serial hospitalizations.”

In response, petitions have now been forwarded to agencies concerned with patient20welfare, calling for independent impact studies on state-ordered patient abandonment. Agencies contacted include the U.S. Health and Human Services Administration (HHS) and the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid. The petition has also been sent to Health Commissioner Richard F. Daines, NYSDOH.

This landmark study, of major interest to medical, psychiatric and medico-legal communities and the public at large, would aim to show that abruptly severing medical and psychiatric services by state agencies has serious and sometimes fatal consequences for patients – especially patients who are disadvantaged, infirm, chronically ill or psychiatrically disabled. It would also suggest remedial action. Indeed, if state agencies assume the power of terminating the basic care to patients provided for by their physicians, they presumably also should accept the responsibility for adequately supporting said patients through crisis, by providing them with life-saving continuity of care.

No Shots! No Medication! Long Beach, California Allergy Sufferers Relieved With New Laser Technology

AllergiCare™ Relief Centers of Long Beach www.AllergiCare.com/clinics/longbeach opened last week and patients have already seen tremendous success with the clinic’s new state-of-the-art laser technology.

The new technique, called “immune conditioning”, that is offered by the clinics is unique in that there are no scratch tests, allergy shots or medication involved. Instead, computer technology and laser therapy are used to eliminate negative reactions to what would ordinarily be a harmless substance.

“What makes our method of diagnosis and treatment different from other available treatments for allergy symptoms, such as allergy shots and medication,” says Long Beach clinic director Chris Turner, DC, “is that this technique enables us to better identify the specific allergen or sensitivity from our database of over 10,000 different substances. Through this identification, which is enabled by our unique computer system, we can relieve the patient’s sensitivities much more precisely, which in turn provides us with greater results”.

AllergiCare™ Relief Centers’ system assists the practitioner in the diagnosis and relief of allergy symptoms in a non-invasive, drug-free environment. This system has been shown effective with all types of allergies, including seasonal symptoms related to hay fever, pollen, grasses and trees; environmental substances such as pollutants, chemicals, dust and dust mites; food allergens such as fruit, dairy, and nuts; and pet allergens among others. AllergiCare™ Relief Centers addresses the problem at its source rather than just treating the symptoms.

“An allergy is simply an inappropriate response developed by your body as a result of some negative interaction with a certain substance” Dr. Turner explains. “This programmed response triggers a reaction within your body. These reactions may include sneezing, runny nose, itching, watery eyes, headaches and difficulty breathing. Other symptomatic diagnoses such as Irritable Bowel Syndrome, asthma, autoimmune conditions, chronic fatigue syndrome, psoriasis, acid reflux, fibromyalgia, and autism have also been very closely linked to underlying allergic reactions to various substances. Once a sensitivity to a particular substance is identified, our system works to neutralize that negative response so that future exposure to that substance no longer triggers these irritating reactions.”

Many patients notice significant results after receiving just a single treatment. As each treatment addresses only one substance category, allergies to multiple substances may require multiple treatments. The cost per treatment is very affordable when compared to other methods.

Barack Obama Signs Proclamation Save Your Vision Week 2009 – BiCOM with Glaucoma Eye Test Diaton is Preparing to Help

Barack Obama, President of the United States of America proclaims March 1 through March 7, 2009, as Save Your Vision Week. BiCOM Inc home of Glaucoma Eye Test Diaton – non-contact Glaucoma Eye Test through the Eyelid is prepared to assist with vision screenings. Roman Iospa, CEO of BiCOM comments on Presidents support of glaucoma screenings. Early diagnosis and timely treatment are critical to minimize vision loss from eye diseases.

Proclamation by the president of the United Stated of America addresses the important issue of Blindness and visual impairment that affects millions of Americans. Early diagnosis and timely treatment are critical to minimize vision loss from eye diseases. During Save Your Vision Week – Barack Obama encourages all Americans to take action to prevent their vision loss.

BiCOM Inc. home of Glaucoma Eye Test Diaton Tonometer (IOP through the Eyelid), has been a long supporter of preventive glaucoma screenings. At a recent free glaucoma screening event where BiCOM in conjunction with SAVE Program (Sight for a Vision Exchange) and The Congressional Glaucoma Caucus Foundation conducted at New York City Children’s Services in honor of African American Heritage Celebration has revealed many with elevated intraocular pressure (IOP) a major risk factor for glaucoma. Patients were referred to an ophthalmologist Dr. Lynnette P. Williams-Young a glaucoma specialist for further evaluation.

Unfortunately, most people have limited knowledge of blinding eye disorders. Based on National Eye Institute 2005 study, only eight percent of respondents knew that glaucoma, a condition that can damage the optic nerve and cause vision loss and blindness, strikes without early warning. Similarly, glaucoma also begins as a silent vision threat; as per Prevent Blindness America, it is estimated that of those Americans that have glaucoma, only half know they have it. It is estimated that 60 million Americans are at risk for developing glaucoma.

Everyone should be screened, especially with availability of new non-invasive (over the eyelid) glaucoma screening technology aka “Glaucoma Eye Test” Diaton tonometer available to optometrists, ophthalmologists and general physicians, enabling doctors to quickly and painlessly screen individuals at risk.

Several demographic groups are at higher risk for visual impairment, including teenagers, diabetics, Hispanics, African Americans, and the economically disadvantaged. Older Americans are more susceptible to eye conditions such as age-related macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, and glaucoma. Children need regular vision screenings because vision disorders left untreated during childhood can lead to permanent visual impairment during adulthood.

President Obama stated, “Eye disease knows no bounds, and every American should take steps to protect his or her eyesight.”

To remind Americans about the importance of safeguarding their eyesight, the Congress, by joint resolution approved December 30, 1963, as amended (77 Stat. 629; 36 U.S.C. 138), has authorized and requested the President to proclaim the first week in March of each year as “Save Your Vision Week.”

“I’m pleased to see that President Barack Obama, with only weeks in the office is addressing an important issue of blindness, its early detection and timely treatment. My whole team at BiCOM Inc., and our partners are ready to continue our efforts and act on a larger scale by reaching out to many more people through awareness, training, glaucoma screening events and making “Glaucoma Eye Test” Diaton tonometer available to all that are willing to participate,“ said Roman Iospa, CEO of BiCOM Inc.

From the website of the White House:http://www.whitehouse.gov/the_press_office/Save-Your-Vision-Week-2009/

“NOW, THEREFORE, I, BARACK OBAMA, President of the United States of America, do hereby proclaim March 1 through March 7, 2009, as Save Your Vision Week. During this time, I invite eye care professionals, teachers, members of the media, and all organizations dedicated to preserving eyesight to join in activities that will raise awareness of vision diseases and disorders.”
