Research: Facebook Users Are Hiding The Fat Facts

According to new research by LighterLife, millions of Brits* are unwilling to upload their photos to Facebook because they’re so embarrassed by the way they look.

Research: Facebook Users Are Hiding The Fat Facts

45% of women surveyed said they would never put ‘fat’ photos online, while 14% of women un-tag themselves in every single photo of them that appears on Facebook. One in ten women admitted to feeling sick when they saw their picture on Facebook and in extreme circumstances 13% avoid being photographed altogether just in case the photos end up on the social networking site.

Sue Dover, Sales and Marketing Director at LighterLife, which carried out the study, said: ”It’s such a shame that people are not choosing to share their Facebook photos, and in extreme circumstances pretending to look like someone they’re not. It’s indicative of the pressure placed on people, particularly young women, in our society to look a certain way that is causing this to happen.”

Faith Johns, a self-confessed de-tagger said, “I often use older photos from when I was a lot slimmer. If I do put up recent pictures then I’ll be careful only to show my face so it’s harder to see my actual size. Being tagged and seeing how big I am has contributed towards me feeling very low about my weight.”

10% of the 2,000 people surveyed by OnePoll admitted putting out-of-date photos online so people think they look as good as they did when they were younger. Interestingly it appears men are more reluctant to give up the past than women. 10% of men were unwilling to put up recent pictures as they were afraid of what old colleagues and friends would say about how much they had changed, in comparison with 6% of women.

One in ten admitted to using a photo of someone else on their social networking profile, like their dog, an avatar or cartoon drawing, to avoid old friends and work mates seeing the ‘real’ them. Whilst one in twenty even admitted to uploading pictures of a better-looking person, like a more attractive friend, to get more attention from the opposite sex.

But it’s not all bad, as 18% only put recent pictures of themselves online to show old friends and work colleagues how much they have changed. And 13% use Facebook to show people how successful their weight loss has been.

Study Reveals Worrying Results On Sexually Transmitted Infections

According to a new study of sexual health from Lloydspharmacy – 72% of men have never had an STI screen, compared to 62% of women. Lloydspharmacy also found men were almost twice as likely to test positive for certain STIs such as chlamydia.

13% of men buying chlamydia tests from Lloydspharmacy’s Online Doctor tested positive compared to just six per cent of women.

The research from the community pharmacy chain also found that men are placing themselves at greater risk of picking up an STI with 13% of men having had unprotected sex with more than one person over the last five years, almost double that of women (7%).

With the research revealing that men are more reluctant to be tested but significantly more likely to test positive than women, the findings fuel concerns that men may be delaying testing until they are showing symptoms and that real rates of infection are significantly higher than reported.

Although men are less likely to have had a face-to-face consultation for an STI screen, according to Lloydspharmacy sales of tests online are split almost equally between men and women. This suggests that men prefer the anonymity of the online channel.

Through its Online Doctor service the community pharmacy chain has launched a postal Platinum Test for men which screens for five genital infections; genital Chlamydia, genital gonorrhoea, mycoplasma, ureaplasma and trichomonas. This confidential postal service allows men to be tested and if found to be positive, treated without the need to visit their GP.

“The lower rate of face-to-face testing and higher incidence of positive results amongst men suggests that many men may be waiting until they suspect they have an infection before getting themselves tested”, said Clare Kerr, Lloydspharmacy’s head of sexual health. “This is particularly worrying as many STIs don’t have any obvious symptoms, so men could be putting both themselves and their partners at risk by delaying tests.”

“Embarrassment is a huge barrier to testing and so we hope that removing the need to see a GP or GUM clinic face-to-face will encourage men to test themselves regularly. We can provide accurate tests for a wide range of genital infections anonymously and discreetly through the Online Doctor.”

FDA Blunder and Cover-up Kills Millions

The World Health Organization (WHO) has just recommended that drinking water contain 25-50 mg of magnesium (Mg) per liter to prevent deaths from heart attack and stroke. MgWater.com/download American bottled water averages <5 mg of magnesium per liter, while bottled water in the rest of the world averages about 20 mg of magnesium per liter.

FDA Blunder and Cover-up Kills Millions

The FDA and DOJ caused the Mg-deficient-water problem by destroying the American mineral water industry in the 1930’s, in the mistaken belief that pure water was good, and that mineral water was just impure water.

Epidemiological studies indicate that millions of Americans have died due to the FDA’s and DOJ’s destruction of the American mineral water industry. See:
http://www.mgwater.com/anderson.shtml
http://www.mgwater.com/lancet.shtml
http://www.mgwater.com/finland.shtml
http://www.mgwater.com/singh.shtml

For decades, the evidence has been overwhelming that Americans are very deficient in Mg, as evidenced by the 23% shortfall from the RDI, yet the FDA and DOJ have covered up their blunder, getting a Federal lawsuit dismissed before the evidence could be shown, and keeping silent about the millions of deaths indicated by over 50 epidemiological studies from nine countries.

Now, it is up to the FDA and DOJ to end this travesty, requiring the Mg content of bottled or canned beverages to be put in labels’ nutrition panels, and requiring that all bottled or canned beverages contain at least 25 mg of Mg per liter.

Foods no longer contain as much magnesium as they did a century ago, due to increased food processing and possible soil depletion. Consumers have generally rejected magnesium-rich whole grain foods like brown rice and brown bread, in favor of magnesium-stripped white rice and white bread. Bottled beverages are the most practical way of delivering magnesium to consumers.

Recent studies clearly confirm that water-borne Mg is far, far better in preventing cardiovascular pathologies than food-borne Mg. For more information, go to the Magnesium Online Library at www.MgWater.com.

ClearMed Offers 60-Day Money-Back Guarantee

Hemroid treatment ClearMed has always come with a 60-day, money-back guarantee. With the recent No. 1 ranking by Consumer Health Reports for the third year in a row, the developers of ClearMed decided it was time to remind customers – both existing and potential – of its No Risk Guarantee program. Those who are not completely satisfied with the hemroids relief of ClearMed can simply return the unused portion for a full refund.

“ClearMed is a product that I am very proud of, and feel excited to share with hemroids sufferers around the world,” says Lawrence E. Kreger, medical researcher for ClearMed.

Simply put, hemroids are veins in the anus or lower rectum that have become swollen because too much pressure has been placed on them, sometimes by straining during bowel movements, other times by sitting for too long. Symptoms include bleeding, anal itching and pain. Worldwide, more than 40 percent of people over the age of 50 suffer from hemroids. In the United States alone, about four percent of pregnant women find they need hemroid treatment. About 20 percent of those suffering from hemroids end up seeking relief through surgery, with the rest using an internal or external hemroid treatment.

ClearMed is an all-natural, time-release capsule that provides hemroids relief by shrinking and soothing the swollen veins. Unlike other treatments, ClearMed both repairs the tissues damaged by straining and provides soothing and healing agents throughout the day, to ease the discomfort of hemroids.

For mild hemroids, the cost of ClearMed starts at $39.95 for a one-week hemroid treatment cycle. Two weeks of hemroid treatment cost $59.85, saving the user $20. Those suffering from moderate to severe hemroids should consider purchasing the Extra Strength ClearMed package, which includes two weeks of hemroid treatment plus a hemroidal ointment to topically soothe itching, dryness, and burning. This hemroid treatment package costs $89.95.

Those who have found hemroids relief often continue with a hemroid treatment maintenance program. ClearMed offers a package that includes eight bottles of Extra Strength ClearMed plus two tubes of hemroidal ointment, for $159.

To order ClearMed, call 727-328-0859, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. EST Monday through Friday, or go to hemorrhoidtreatmentonline.com. All products are shipped discreetly within 24 hours through United States Postal Service Priority Shipping. Next-day Express Shipping is also an option.

Hemroids Medication ClearMed Named Editors’ Choice For 2009

The votes are in and Consumer Health Reports has named ClearMed as the being the top pick for hemroids relief medication for 2009. A number of factors are considered by the organization during the process of picking a recommended product in any category, making the nod from Consumer Health Reports especially meaningful for any manufacturer or pharmaceutical company. The editorial team starts by collecting all of the products available to consumers in a particular category. In the case of hemroids treatment, this involved over 100 of the best known medications, including top selling national brand name products like Zenmed Zero and Avatrol. After comprehensive testing, consumer feedback is also solicited in the form of surveys. Products are then ranked according to key categories: safety, effectiveness, reorder rates, customer service, quality and value.

According to the editors of Consumer Health Reports, ClearMed came out on top when it came to testing and scored a tough to beat 95.9% approval rating on surveys returned by 285 customers who’d used the product. In naming ClearMed as their top pick for 2009, the editors sent a strong message that there is no medication more effective at providing hemroids relief, whether online or in your local drug store. Also noted in the review was the reasonable price of $39.95 for a treatment cycle of ClearMed, which was singled out as being “…a good value for the money when you consider that hemroids typically clear up within a week.” The fact that the producer of ClearMed also backs the product with a 60 day money-back guarantee says a lot about the confidence it has in the product.

While hemorrhoids are unpleasant and hemroids treatments often messy and ineffective, Consumer Health Reports was very positive about what consumers should expect from ClearMed, including a personal endorsement from the organization’s chief editor:

“ClearMed is clearly helping folks with their bout with hemorrhoids. We received the positive feedback from survey reports as well as actual customers from forums that claim their hemorrhoids cleared up within 1 week. Even our very own editor swears by this product.”

Established in 1999 by two medical researchers, the hemorrhoid treatment medication ClearMed is produced in an FDA-certified laboratory. Combining prescription strength ingredients that research has proven to reduce inflammation while soothing tissue, ClearMed has been named the top pick by Consumer Health Reports for three years running, is recommended by Doctors and over 200 Proctologists for hemorrhoids relief and has no known side effects. Available without a prescription for $39.95, ClearMed offers discreet, next day delivery with a 100% satisfaction money-back guarantee.

Hemorrhoids Sufferers Rank ClearMed No. 1 Treatment for Third Year in a Row

Consumer Health Reports recently released its annual study and survey of treatments for hemorrhoids, and for the third consecutive year ClearMed has come out on top. Consumer Health Reports included more than 100 hemorrhoid treatment brands in the study, evaluating them on quality, value, reorder rates, safety and customer service. It then asked those suffering from internal, external and bleeding hemorrhoids to rate the top five – Avatrol, ClearMed, Preparation H, Venapro and Zenmed – using the same criteria. The result: More than 95 percent of participants picked ClearMed as their top hemorrhoid treatment.

More than 40 percent of people in the world over the age of 50 suffer from hemorrhoids, with four percent of all pregnant women developing the disease in the United States alone. Hemorrhoids are veins in the lower rectum or anus that have become swollen because of increased pressure, often from straining during bowel movements or sitting for long periods of time. Symptoms include anal itching, pain and bleeding.

Only about 20 percent of those suffering from internal, external and bleeding hemorrhoids require surgery, the rest find that a hemorrhoid treatment will help ease pain and swelling.

ClearMed is an all-natural hemorrhoid treatment in a time-release capsule that provides relief by shrinking and soothing hemorrhoids. Unlike other treatments for hemorrhoids, ClearMed’s finely milled ingredients work first on the internal issues, repairing tissues that have been damaged by straining. Throughout the day, soothing and healing agents are released to help ease the discomfort of bleeding hemorrhoids and non-bleeding hemorrhoids. There are no reported side effects with ClearMed, even when used for long-term maintenance.

“ClearMed is a product that I am very proud of, and feel excited to share with hemorrhoid sufferers around the world,” says Lawrence E. Kreger, medical researcher for ClearMed.

ClearMed developers are so confident in their hemorrhoid treatment, they guarantee results in five to seven days. If customers are not completely satisfied, ClearMed will return their money through its 60-Day No Risk Guarantee program.

Hemorrhoids Have Met Their Match With ClearMed

Mankind has struggled to deal with the unpleasantness of hemorrhoids since the dawn of time. From the folk remedies dating back thousands of years to the national brands carried in drugs stores and supermarkets today, hemorrhoid treatment has become a big business. Unfortunately, with hundreds of medications to choose from and conditions ranging from mild irritation up to the potentially dangerous condition of bleeding hemorrhoids, consumers have been left wondering what medications actually work and which amount to a waste of money.

Doctors and proctologists treat patients who suffer from hemorrhoids all the time and they frequently recommend ClearMed, a nonprescription medication that’s proven to quickly reduce swelling and irritation, greatly speeding the recovery process while providing relief to sufferers. The editors of Consumer Health Reports, an organization that evaluates various medications in an effort to rank the top picks in various categories (based on criteria such as value, safety, quality and effectiveness), put over 100 of the top selling hemorrhoid treatment medications under the microscope and awarded ClearMed their top pick for hemorrhoid treatment for 2009.

What does it take to earn the top spot when competing against more than 100 of the top selling hemorrhoid relief products, including the best-selling national brand names? Consumer Health Reports conducted extensive testing on all the subject products, then asked customers who’d actually used the various medications to complete surveys to help validate their findings and flesh out what their user experience was like (including variables like customer service and overall satisfaction). As it had in the previous two years, ClearMed came out on top in testing, and it was also the clear favorite of customers, with an unheard of 95.9% approval rating on the 285 customer surveys that were returned. Some customers even noted that ClearMed had been able to heal their bleeding hemorrhoids, while others pointed out that the $39.95 price for a treatment cycle (backed by a 60 day money back guarantee) was extremely competitive. Based on these findings and the test results, Consumer Health Reports named ClearMed its Top Pick for Hemorrhoid Treatment for 2009, a feat the product has now accomplished for three years running.

ClearMed was founded in 1999 by a pair of medical researchers. The company operates an FDA-certified laboratory and offers a 60 day, 100% money back guarantee on ClearMed . The product is recommended by doctors, proctologists hemorrhoid treatment and has helped over 150,000 customers to date. ClearMed has earned top honors from Consumer Health Reports for the past three years, with the organization noting that it was even reported by customers to be effective in treating bleeding hemorrhoids.

Alcohol Treatment Resources that are Unbiased

Treatment-Centers.net Finding information about the appropriate alcohol rehabilitation center can be a daunting task. At Treatment-Centers.net we help to streamline this process by providing resources and a wide-range of facilities that would be considered the most appropriate for an individual’s particular circumstances.

There is nothing that is easy about having a loved one suffering from drug or alcohol addiction. Likewise, alcohol treatment requires effort on the part of many individuals. Professional help from an alcohol treatment center is a good start. However, it is recommended that friends and family participate in providing support by becoming informed about how to best support their loved one.

In an effort to reduce some of the struggle associated with alcohol rehabilitation, we offer free information resources that may be accessed on the web or through our toll free telephone number. We understand that when one is faced with the need to find an alcohol rehabilitation center that it can be an overwhelming sensation. Our goal is to help individuals make informed decisions about the various types of treatment centers.

Many individuals are aware of the 12-step programs. We have information on several 12-step programs for alcohol treatment. The 12-step programs may not be the best fit for everyone. As a result, the drug and alcohol treatment center industry has seen a large growth in the number of alternative alcohol rehabilitation centers that are available for individuals.

We have professionals available that are ready and willing to help make sense of the rehabilitation industry and can recommend various programs that may best fit one’s individual needs. We provide the most sincere assistance by providing a wealth of information and giving individuals access to our extensive directory and broad range of resources.

Drug Treatments with the Largest Treatment Center Directory

Treatment-Centers.net When it comes to discovering a need to differentiate among the various drug treatments, then Treatment-Centers.net is the solution. Not only do they have the largest selection of information about drug treatment centers, but they also have tips for addiction intervention, multiple diagnosis, and important questions to ask various facilities.

Performing an Addiction Intervention can be a difficult task. It requires serious thought and considerable planning in order to ensure that there is an optimal chance that the individual chooses to go into drug rehab. Visiting Treatment-Centers.net can be of great benefit so that the addiction intervention is well-planned and well-understood.

It is a good idea to research information about various drug treatments that are available prior to an addiction intervention. It may also be beneficial to speak with someone who can answer questions and provide assistance if additional help is sought. The individuals at Treatment-Centers.net are available to not only help find a drug treatment center, but they are also available to the public to help provide assistance and direction for a successful addiction intervention.

Drug treatments have come a long way in comparison with the traditional 12-step program. Although the 12-step program has proven successful for several individuals, there has been an increase in the number of alternative treatment centers. Many of the alternative drug treatment centers are able to create success when others fail.

The most idealistic scenario is that after a single addiction intervention the individual chooses to go into treatment and the treatment results in permanent sobriety. Oftentimes, addiction intervention requires significant persistence in order to convince an individual to check into a drug treatment center.

Additionally, there is no drug treatment center that can guarantee 100% success. Therefore, it may be necessary for an individual to go into drug rehab a number of different times.

Storm Warning For Hay Fever Sufferers

Hay fever sufferers could be about to experience the “perfect storm” in 2010, thanks to the gathering forces of Mother Nature, a leading UK pharmacy has warned.

The unusual combination of birch pollen levels peaking again this year, as part of a biannual cycle coinciding with a late spring, could cause mayhem for those with hay fever, according to The Co-operative Pharmacy.

Lisa McCreesh, Clinical Governance Pharmacist, at The Co-operative Pharmacy, says:“We are urging people to make sure they get effective treatment if they are suffering from common hay fever symptoms including a blocked or runny nose, sneezing and headache, as these could easily be confused with colds at this time of year.

“Most people associate hay fever with the summer months of May and June when grass pollen levels are high. But hay fever is also caused by being allergic to high levels of birch tree pollen in the atmosphere and other types of pollen including weeds and flowers.

“There are number of simple ways to manage hay fever – managing allergic triggers, suppressing the symptoms, or altering the way your immune system responds to the pollen spores. Avoiding pollen allergens can be difficult though, as the tiny spores are windborne and travel for miles on air currents.

“Keeping windows closed can help, particularly in the early mornings when pollen is being released, and in the evening, when the air cools and pollen begins to fall to the ground, as can wearing wraparound sunglasses.

“A range of medication is available for hay fever sufferers including syrups – commonly used for children – tablets and nasal sprays which can help you breathe more easily and unblock your nose. Eye drops can also help to relieve itchy or watery eyes and certain eye drops should be used at least a couple of weeks before symptoms actually start, to minimise discomfort.

“There are a number of treatments available without a prescription and your local pharmacy will be able to advise you on an appropriate remedy,” adds Lisa.

Report Says Young Women Becoming More Sexually Active

According to new figures released by the sexual health team at Lloydspharmacy*, today’s women have three times more sexual partners by the time they reach 24 than women of their grandmothers’ generation had by the same age.

The sexual health team’s results show that young women today have an average of 5.65 different sexual partners by the time they are 24. By contrast women of their grandmothers’ generation had an average of 1.67 and women of their mothers’ generation had 3.72 sexual partners by the same age.

Looking back over the decades since the War and the end of rations, the research shows that young women in the supposedly ‘Swinging Sixties’ had the least number of different sexual partners whilst young women in the ‘Noughties’ had the most.

Cancer Research UK statistics show that incidence rates of cervical cancer in women under the age of 25 have not decreased despite better screening**. Lloydspharmacy believes the increase in the number of sexual partners could be one reason why.

The last ten years have seen significant decreases in cervical cancer cases in women in older age groups but worryingly, diagnoses of the infection in women under the age of 25 have not followed the same trend**.

The community pharmacy chain is urging women of all age groups to get themselves protected against the human papilloma virus (HPV), a sexually transmitted infection and one of the major causes of cervical cancer***.

“HPV infections are very common, especially in younger people”, said Clare Kerr, Lloydspharmacy’s head of sexual health. “If you are sexually active the cervical cancer vaccinations is one of the most effective ways to prevent infection with high risk forms of HPV.”

Women can receive cervical cancer vaccinations at 240 Lloydspharmacy branches throughout the UK. Other sexual health services available at Lloydpsharmacy branches or through the Online Doctor services on the website include genital Chlamydia and genital gonorrhea treatment.

Key research* insights for women between the ages of 18 and 24:
2000-2009 – women averaged over five different sexual partners, with 8% claiming to have had more than ten different partners
1990-1999 – women averaged under five different sexual partners
1980-1989 – 24% of women had three to five different sexual partners by the time they reached 24
1970-1979 – 24% of women had two to four different sexual partners by the age of 24
1960-1969 – almost 50 per cent had only one sexual partner by the age of 24

LighterLife has relaunched its LighterLife magazine with a new look and improved content to offer readers added inspiration and understanding of just what LighterLife offers. The new feel and design of the magazine has been created with the help of publishing house, Specialist Publications.

The re-launch sees the weight loss magazine take on a new, clean direction. The size of the publication has moved from A4 to a smaller handbag size, making it more user friendly. The magazine also features more LighterLife clients than ever before, whether it’s at the beginning, middle or end of their weight-loss journey. Niki Webb, Specialist CEO said, “The relaunch gave us an opportunity to refresh the magazine from a photographic, design and content perspective. The new magazine is stylish and confident. The team at Specialist are very passionate about the LighterLife brand. The fact that thousands of people have battled obesity and are now managing their weight after following LighterLife is truly inspirational and something worth shouting about.”

The LighterLife magazine is now available exclusively through on-line subscriptions or via LighterLife counsellors and the new format sees the publication become available on a quarterly basis.

The decision to remove the magazine from the news stand provided the opportunity to make the magazine more specific to the LighterLife clients, whilst more care has been taken over the wording and language used, ensuring new clients and other audiences who might read the magazine will not be alienated but engaged in the content, and have an understanding of LighterLife.

Heather Butcher, LighterLife PR & Communications Manager commented “The new magazine will include further in-depth articles about our clients really exploring why they put on weight and how they found their individual LighterLife Journey. In the past the magazine concentrated on fantastic weight-loss to enable it to jump off the retailer’s shelves and into shopping baskets.”

The new look issue is on sale from 22nd March and features a wide spectrum of weight-loss stories, tips and advice on dealing with difficult situations that may arise while losing weight, along with information that may be useful to family members who want a better understanding of LighterLife. For potential clients these features and stories are design to prompt and answer any questions people may have before embarking on LighterLife Total or LighterLife Lite.

Resveratrol Sales Continue To Grow Despite Controversy

Whether you liked it or not 2009 was the year you probably found out about resveratrol. General awareness of resveratrol as a health supplement has been growing steadily over the last few years. When news magazine 60 Minutes profiled the anti-aging compound found in red wine in a January 2009 segment though, resveratrol suddenly shot to prominence. Sales of the supplements then took off, rivaling even acai berry in volume.

But then Oprah and Dr Oz filed suit (US District Court of New York Case # 09CV7297 Judge Batts) against 50 acai and resveratrol supplement marketers citing unlawful use of their name, and the resveratrol craze came to a screeching halt … at least, for a couple of months.

The Oprah/Dr Oz lawsuit remains in the news, but consumers appear undeterred and are picking right back up where they left off. So much so, the Nutrition Business Journal projects resveratrol sales in 2010 will be five times those of 2009.

“The thing that makes resveratrol different”, says Andrew Ekman of ResveratrolHabit.com, “is there is so much scientific research showing the positive effects resveratrol has on the body.” Indeed, a search for ‘resveratrol’ on PubMed, the government directory for scientific publications shows 564 listings for the year 2009. As these numbers indicate there is a lot of excitement in the scientific community about resveratrol.

Sirtris Pharmaceuticals, the company profiled in the 60 Minutes story continues to see positive results from the human trials it is running. Other researchers like Will Steward of the Leicester Royal Infirmary, who oversees research there, including human trials involving resveratrol for its ability to reduce the risk of cancer, are also getting positive results.

Steward has great hopes for resveratrol. In an interview with James Silver of Wired Magazine, he said of the human trials of resveratrol he recently conducted, “Resveratrol, up to five grammes daily, was well tolerated and safe, and blood markers of biological effect looked promising, showing that [resveratrol] could have effects on cells which would be valuable in preventing cancer.”

Though when asked about resveratrol supplements his comments struck a much more conservative tone, allowing only that, “there is no strong scientific evidence of anything that you can claim right now in terms of any potential beneficial clinical effect of resveratrol in humans.”

GoodToBeAlive.Com Launches National Retail Outlet For Defibrillators Exclusively For Home Users

Good To Be Alive launches its primary retail channel, www.GoodToBeAlive.com and toll-free number 1-888-OWN-1-AED (1-888-696-1233), which is a one-of-a-kind retail outlet – the nation’s first exclusive-for-home seller of defibrillators (automated external defibrillators or AEDs) suitable for personal use. Good To Be Alive offers Personal-AEDs or automated external defibrillators, (sometimes referred to as a Portable AED) which are self-contained laptop-sized devices that are used to revive a person suffering from sudden cardiac arrest by delivering a controlled electrical shock that can reset the heart to normal function. For witnessed sudden cardiac arrest, if used immediately, AEDs are up to 90% successful at resuscitation (whereas without an AED readily available, survival rates are 1% – 5%). Until recently, these devices were only safe when used by a trained professional. Now, due to recent technological advances, Personal-AEDs are safe and easy for layperson use. No other consumer device has empowered individuals for such dramatic results – resuscitation of a sudden cardiac arrest victim – basically bringing someone back to life!

SUDDEN CARDIAC ARREST BACKGROUND:

Knowing the facts reveals the need for personal AEDs in homes: Sudden cardiac arrest is the leading cause of death in the United States. More than 300,000 US deaths annually, across all demographics, are attributed to sudden cardiac arrest (more than breast cancer, prostate cancer, house fires, hand guns, traffic accidents, and AIDS combined). Tens of thousands of sudden cardiac arrest deaths could be prevented if an AED were used immediately. AED utilization is the only treatment for sudden cardiac arrest – survival odds decrease 10% every minute without an AED. Few attempts at resuscitation are successful after 10 minutes without an AED. It is crucial to recognize that the majority of sudden cardiac arrest victims are asymptomatic, meaning these victims were not at heightened risk for a heart attack. We are all at risk, including the youngest among us. Sudden cardiac arrest is not limited to the aging population. Approximately 22% of sudden deaths for people between 1 and 21 years of age are due to cardiac arrest. A final relevant statistic– 80% of cardiac arrest occurs at home.

PURPOSE, NON-PROFIT PARTNERSHIP:

Good To Be Alive partners with national non-profit Sudden Cardiac Arrest Foundation (www.sca-aware.org). Initially, the two organizations are presenting survivor stories to the public, offering a referral purchase program (that will result in donations from Good To Be Alive to the SCA Foundation), and looking ahead to developing a public awareness campaign called “Save A Life at Home”, which will follow the successful and ongoing SCA Foundation campaign “Save A life at School.”

“Good To Be Alive is focused on providing defibrillators in the home where they are needed most. We are grateful that Good To Be Alive has chosen to begin supporting our Foundation from the onset, this is a demonstration of their commitment to their mission to save lives,” said Mary Newman, the President of the SCA Foundation.

Mark Adelman is the founding partner of Good To Be Alive. Mr. Adelman and senior partner, Allan Fine, are currently test marketing, as well as honing website and logistical operations. The senior management team expects Good To Be Alive to locally employ 12+ individuals by Fall 2010 in a combination of management and member support positions.

“I’ve always focused on technology serving people – I see that society is far too slowly adopting this life-extending medical advancement. The latest generation of easy-to-use AEDs are a game changer against the nation’s number one cause of death – sudden cardiac arrest. We’re determined to put a Personal-AED in the hands of as many people as possible. Our purpose is to decrease loss of life from sudden cardiac arrest. The American Heart Association estimates that between 50,000 – 100,000 lives could be saved annually if AEDs were widely accessible. That said, in the end, the decision to protect yourself and the people you care about against sudden cardiac arrest is a personal choice, it’s the individual’s right to choose to be prepared,” founding partner Mr. Adelman said.

Senior partner Mr. Fine said, “We applaud the proliferation of public access AEDs. The AEDs we all see in airports, fitness centers, and schools are important for people to have available, however the public should understand that 80% of sudden cardiac arrest occurs in the home. We are placing Personal-AEDs in people’s homes, where they are needed most. Good To Be Alive’s mission to save lives is very personal for me due to the fact that last year I lost my 28 year old brother to sudden cardiac arrest in his home. When Personal-AEDs are widely accessible, similar tragic losses can be avoided for other families.”

Good To Be Alive has established the Good To Be Alive Foundation. The Foundation’s purpose is to give back to the community by supporting the proliferation of AEDs, both Personal-AEDs and public-access AEDs (located at schools, airports, etc.) In fact, the Good To Be Alive Foundation has already donated AED equipment to a local high school and an AED to a county-based EMS group. Additionally, the Good To Be Alive Foundation is partnering with the Sudden Cardiac Arrest Foundation (www.sca-aware.org) to support its efforts for a developing “Save A Life at Home” awareness campaign.

GOOD TO BE ALIVE TEAM BACKGROUND:

Founding partner, attorney Mark Adelman is a graduate of the Georgia State College of Law and the University of Georgia, Grady College of Journalism, as well as an experienced healthcare administrator. Prior to becoming a member of the Georgia Bar Association (2000), Mr. Adelman contributed to the development of the CNN brand as a producer in the network’s Marketing and Creative Services division. More recently, he won national video production awards for Georgia Tech as part of their marketing efforts. Mr. Adelman is an American Red Cross certified AED Instructor.

IRM, Inc. Releases Next Generation Revenue Management Reporting Solution Hospital Business Performance Management

Integrated Revenue Management, Inc.,  a leading technology, education, and consulting firm supporting hospital revenue management initiatives, today announced the releases and general availability of its new software as a service (SaaS) solution, Hospital BPM.

IRM, Inc. Releases Next Generation Revenue Management Reporting Solution Hospital Business Performance Management

Hospital BPM is an innovative and powerful analytics solution that hospitals use to track and manage vital revenue management initiatives. The solution combines powerful ETL technology with a series of revenue cycle management dashboards. The dashboards offer financial executives and department managers actionable information in a format that hospital finance professionals can easily understand and to which they can easily react.

Said Jack Duffy, Co-Founder of IRM, “This product represents a response to a key need in the industry. Hospital financial executives face two key problems today. Firstly, the volume of data they must analyze and process is increasing exponentially. This deluge of data from disparate sources makes analysis difficult, at best. Making informed financial decisions is further complicated by the unstructured nature of hospital financial information. Combine this systemic problem with a fluid regulatory environment and it makes the job of the hospital finance executive that much more difficult. Reimbursement rules of the road are changing daily and keeping pace with this change is a constant challenge.”

Hospital BPM represents the next generation of healthcare reporting technologies. The SaaS model keeps costs down and allows for rapid adoption across departments. The revenue cycle dashboard transform unstructured data from disparate sources and gives the reporting consumers the information they need to make critical and timely decisions.

Said Duffy; “We began the development of this solution as we typically do, with a live customer, satisfying a real and crucial need. Tufts Medical Center has been our primary beta client. We have worked with Tufts and their needs are quite common. We knew that once we released the solution live with Tufts, we could build upon that experience and release a general solution for the market.

The product is officially generally available. IRM, Inc. is planning a series of webinars and live product demonstrations and will be working with other clients to roll out the system live in production. You can learn more about this solution at http://www.irminconline.com/services/rms_hbpm.htm

For more information on the solution or to schedule a demonstration, contact kmiller@irminconline.com.
