Optical Express Is Currently Launching Its First Television Advertising Campaign Highlighting Its Cosmetic Surgery Brand, The Cosmetic Clinic

The advertisement – a 30 second television ad – was created in an effort to put the brand, as well as the Bridgewater Hospital, on the map, and to let the residents of Manchester know that they have a state-of-the-art hospital at their doorstep.

The advertisement features a series of women in their daily routines; shopping, swimming, and sitting down for drinks with friends. The theme is body confidence and feeling good about yourself, which is the message the company wants to promote with regards to The Cosmetic Clinic, and which fits with the motto of the clinic: Your body, your choice.

Bridgewater Hospital, where The Cosmetic Clinic is based, is a custom-built private medical hospital hailed for its advanced technologies, some of which are unique in the UK. The cosmetic surgery hospital ward consists of private cubicles to ensure privacy for patients, all centrally located around a nurses’ station. The hospital’s diagnostic suite is fully digitised for immediate transmission of information, and equipped with the latest diagnostic radiology equipment.

Each of the three operating theatres has been created to meet extremely high air quality specifications as to avoid airborne infections, and a closely observed recovery area has been created so that patients can be monitored as they wake up from their anaesthetic.

The Cosmetic Clinic offers a full range of procedures, from breast enlargement, reduction and uplift, to liposuction, tummy tucks, and rhinoplasty. Though the current advertisement targets women, The Cosmetic Clinic offers procedures for both men and women. All surgeons are on the Specialist Register of the General Medical Council, and FRCS (Plas) accredited, to ensure the highest quality of care.

A New Study Presented At The 26th Annual Meeting Of The American Society For Metabolic & Bariatric Surgery Confirms That Laparoscopic Gastric Banding Surgery Results In An 83% Improvement Or Remission Of Type 2 Diabetes

A new study presented at the 26th Annual Meeting of the American Society for Metabolic & Bariatric Surgery confirms that laparoscopic gastric banding surgery (LAGB) results in sustained weight loss as well as an 83% improvement or remission of Type 2 diabetes.

A New Study Presented At The 26th Annual Meeting Of The American Society For Metabolic & Bariatric Surgery Confirms That Laparoscopic Gastric Banding Surgery Results In An 83% Improvement Or Remission Of Type 2 Diabetes

Laparoscopic adjustable gastric banding surgery (LAGB) not only results in sustained weight loss for morbidly obese patients, but it also provides an improvement or remission of Type 2 diabetes in 83% of the patients.

This news, the results of a new study, was presented at the 26th Annual Meeting of the American Society of Metabolic & Bariatric Surgery (ASMBS). The event was held in Dallas, Texas, and Slimband was there to learn first-hand about the ground breaking study.

To date, this is the largest long-term study on the impact of gastric banding on diabetes. This study strongly suggests that there is a definite connection between diabetes and morbid obesity. The study noted that the patients who achieved and maintained a significant weight loss also realized the greatest remission of diabetes in a shorter time frame.

The study included 95 participants who ranged in age prior to surgery from 21 to 68 years, with an average BMI (Body Mass Index) of 46. Researchers from New York University (NYU) Medical Center conducted the study from January 2002 through January 2004. Approximately 88% of the patients were taking oral medications to control their diabetes and about 15% were using insulin. On average, the patients had been diagnosed with diabetes about 6 ½ years before surgery.

As routine follow up to the surgery, the patients’ weight was monitored and blood tests were done. During the first year, researchers followed each patient on a monthly basis, and during the second year the follow-ups were every three months.

After that, the follow-ups were annual unless more frequent visits were needed. At the end of the five-year follow-up period the data clearly showed that in about 40% of patients, diabetes was in remission and in about 43% it was improved, which resulted in a combined improvement/remission rate of 83%.

The incidence of diabetes and obesity is on the rise and that has resulted in several studies for effective methods for sustaining weight loss and for diabetes remission. Bariatric Surgery has been shown to be an excellent option for the treatment of morbid obesity as well as a way to improve Type 2 diabetes.

ASMBS is a non-profit organization that works to progressively move forward in the science of gastric banding surgery.

LighterLife Has Conducted A New Survey That Has Revealed The Shocking Scale Of Abuse Faced By Overweight People In Britain

LighterLife has conducted a new survey that has revealed the shocking scale of abuse faced by overweight people in Britain, with nine out of 10 overweight Britons having been called a derogatory name due to their weight.

LighterLife Has Conducted A New Survey That Has Revealed The Shocking Scale Of Abuse Faced By Overweight People In Britain

The survey of over 1,000 adults conducted by weight loss specialist LighterLife, revealed that the younger generation are the worse culprits with 56% of 16-24 year olds cited as responsible for name calling compared to 35% of 55-64 year olds.

When it comes to insulting friends and relatives, men are the most cruel with nearly a third admitting to name calling compared to just 11% of women. Shockingly, 33% of obese or very obese people admitted that they also called others names despite being overweight themselves. And it is friends who appear to receive the brunt of this abuse. Overall, 68% reserved abuse for their friends, 15% insulted their siblings while partners and parents are equal at 10% each.

Mandy Cassidy, a psychotherapist with LighterLife, said: “It’s sad that adults now find such behaviour acceptable, particularly so among the younger age groups, as they could well carry these views as they get older, thus increasing the problem even further.

People can appear to shrug off comments, she added, but inside, they can be devastated: “Often it is only through counselling that the full impact becomes clear – many of our clients have resorted to avoiding social occasions and decline invitations.

“Even some people who appear totally confident say that they become ‘really good liars’ and concoct a range of excuses for not attending events which can drive them indoors to eat as a way of dealing with their hurt and anger, compounding the problem.

“Just because someone is overweight, it doesn’t mean it’s acceptable to insult them. This type of prejudice isn’t tolerated in any other walk of life so we shouldn’t allow it here.”

About LighterLife
LighterLife is a weight loss and weight management programme for people who are one stone or more overweight and with a body mass index of 25 or above. LighterLife has helped over 150,000 people to successfully lose weight since 1996.

According To A Recent Survey LighterLife, 62% Of Overweight Women Prefer To Be Under The Covers Before Their Partner Comes To Bed

According to a recent survey by weight loss specialist LighterLife, 62% of overweight women prefer to be under the covers before their partner comes to bed whilst 46% of overweight men would rather avoid sex all together.

Whilst the overweight and obese women surveyed made sure their bodies were firmly out of sight by having sex with the light off (32%), getting undressed before their partner comes to bed (42%) or keeping the bedcovers or nightclothes firmly on (43%), the men preferred to avoid hopping into the sack all together.

The figures emerged in a study of the bedroom habits of 3,000 Brits, which also revealed that more than one in ten obese people haven’t had sex for a year because they are so worried about being seen naked and 8% of obese people claimed they couldn’t remember the last time they had sex. A massive 98% of size 16+ women stated they felt unattractive, and while 68% of obese people said they have never felt sexy, just 12% of those with a normal BMI said the same.

When it comes to frolicking in the bedroom more than one in five said the lack of bedroom activity was because they couldn’t bear the thought of someone seeing them naked compared with just three per cent of those who have a normal BMI.

Mandy Cassidy psychotherapist and consultant for LighterLife, said: “The study shows that being obese affects the mind as well as the body, and reveals the problems faced by so many people.

“For growing numbers of people, it’s a vicious circle – many use food as a substitute for love, and as the pounds pile on, their relationship switches from their partners, to food.

“They need to learn how to break the cycle – and clearly, for those who do, the sauce will not be in the kitchen, but in the bedroom.”

Chubby Celebs Make Obesity The “Norm”

Stick thin celebrities have long been held responsible for the pressure on ordinary people to lose weight – now it would seem the tables have turned and fat celebrities are being blamed for the rising obesity epidemic.

Experts say that tubby celebs such as “Gavin and Stacey’s” James Corden and Ruth Jones are making obesity more socially acceptable and “normal”.

The profile of “larger” celebs has considerably risen over the years, with names such as Dawn French, Jonny Vegas, Peter Kay and of course Fern Britton (who has now lost her weight), appearing on our screens.

A recent report revealed that 23 per cent of Brits are now classed as obese compared to just 11 per cent 10 years ago.

More than 2,000 people took part in a nationwide survey in which researchers found that 17 per cent of obese people refuse to consider taking action to lose weight, whether via surgery or extreme diet regimes.

Weight loss doesn’t have to revolve around fad diets and excruciating exercise regimes though. The Hospital Group, one of the country’s leading obesity and cosmetic surgery providers, offers a wide range of obesity treatments including gastric band and body shaping treatments including liposuction and tummy tuck.

Last year The Hospital Group saw a staggering 73 per cent increase in the number of enquires made regarding weight loss surgery, making them the largest obesity surgery provider in the UK.

Since The Hospital Group was established in 1992, it has grown from a small pharmaceutical company to one of the UK’s foremost weight loss surgery providers.

For further information of The Hospital Group’s range of weight loss procedures, surgery-seekers should visit the website www.thehospitalgroup.org or call our patient care coordinators on 0845 762 6727.

Slimband Offers Toronto Weight Loss Surgery Options To Prolong Life

Achieving a manageable weight is not an easy endeavor for all. However, it is imperative to a happy and healthy life. Slimband, a revolutionary way of achieving this manageable weight, is a new approach to bariatric surgery. This method helps you to not only lose weight, but to keep the weight off. This manageable solution will help anyone who has struggled with long-term weight control in the past.

Losing weight for most people isn’t the problem, but staying motivated to keep it off. A goal weight is met, and the pounds start to pile back on. In fact, various studies have concluded that 95% of people who lose weight put the weight back on in 2-3 years. That number is astonishing but toronto weight loss surgery with the use of Slimband is the answer. For those who have experienced this experience, Slimband can provide an alternative to starting the weight loss journey all over again.

Slimband involves no diets and gives the individual an increased energy level, which helps them to burn calories more readily. From an increased self-confidence to improved physical appearance and a sustainable weight loss method, Slimband has a high success rate for those choosing to embark on bariatric surgery. With an, “Eat what you want” mentality with an internal portion control system, Slimband lowers the risk of weight-related health issues for a patient’s future.

What exactly is Slimband and what would happen if I choose to embark on Toronto weight loss surgery? Slimband is an adjustable and reversible process that includes the attachment of a band to the top of one’s stomach. This forms a small gastric pouch which reduces the food intake abilities a person can hold. A port is placed under the skin and medical staff can adjust the amount of solution that goes into the band to tighten or loosen it depending on the weight loss process and the weight loss goals involved.

Ultimately, the Slimband process includes two steps. First, the surgical implantation of the band and then a 4 year follow up plan that includes nutrition counseling, professional fitness programs and fill adjustments depending on the results and/or needs of the particular bariatric surgery patient.

While weight loss can be a great change for someone’s lifestyle, it also significantly prolongs someone’s life, for the risk of heart disease; type II diabetes and high cholesterol are lowered as excess weight decreases.

For someone interested in Slimband and Toronto Weight Loss Surgery, they should be prepared to ask their potential surgeon several questions before agreeing to Bariatric surgery. Some of these questions include:

# Who in fact will be doing this surgery?
# What are the qualifications they have to do this procedure?
# What is the cost for consultation with this surgeon?
# What is the cost for Slimband / Toronto Weight loss surgery?
# Are there any complications I should be aware of?

After deciding whether Slimband is for you, a consultation will occur with a professional bariatric surgeon who is experienced in Slimband. From there, your options will be provided to you as well as any questions answered that you need before deciding to finalize your plan for Toronto Weight Loss Surgery.

For more information on toronto weight loss surgery or Bariatric Surgery, visit slimband.com or call 416-482-2988 or toll-free 1-800-308-5458. The Slimband method will change your life forever. What are you waiting for? Log on today!

Lexington Medical Center Has Made Medical History By Becoming The First Hospital In South Carolina With Incisionless Surgery

Lexington Medical Center has made medical history by becoming the first hospital in South Carolina with incisionless surgery.

incisionless surgery

The South Carolina Obesity Surgery Center, a physician practice affiliated with Lexington Medical Center, is now offering “the ROSE procedure” and performed it for the first time at Lexington Medical Center this week. ROSE stands for Restorative Obesity Surgery, Endoscopic. This procedure is for patients who have gained weight back after gastric bypass surgery. Currently, only approximately 30 facilities in the United States offer this treatment.

During ROSE, the surgeon will insert an endoscope through the patient’s mouth into the stomach pouch. The doctor then creates folds to make the stomach pouch smaller. Because there are no external cuts into the body, the procedure offers the advantages of reduced risk of infection, less post-operative pain, faster recovery time and no scars. The treatment can be especially important in South Carolina, which ranks 5th in the nation for obesity.

Dr. Marc Antonetti and Dr. Glen Strickland of the South Carolina Obesity Surgery Center completed special training to do the ROSE procedure at the Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas earlier this year. Each procedure takes about 1 ½ hours. Patients may be in the hospital less than one day. The ideal candidate is someone who had gastric bypass two years ago, lost greater than 50% of their excess weight and regained greater than 10%.

Before the ROSE procedure, patients who regained weight after gastric bypass surgery had few treatment options. Scarring from the initial procedure made revision surgery challenging, with longer recovery time and an increased risk for complications.

Some patients regain weight after gastric bypass surgery because of gradual enlargement of the surgically altered small stomach pouch. In weight loss surgery, the stomach pouch is made very small, which creates a feeling of fullness after just a small volume of food is eaten. When the pouch gradually enlarges, the feeling of fullness is no longer present, patients can eat larger meals and weight regain occurs.

Doctors say similar incisionless surgery may have future application for gall bladder surgery and appendectomies.

The South Carolina Obesity Surgery Center is dual-certified as a Center of Excellence in bariatric surgery by the American College of Surgeons and the American Society for Bariatric Surgery. Its doctors are Dr. Antonetti, Dr. Strickland and Dr. Jim Givens. The surgeons there have completed more than 3,000 bariatric surgeries.

News reporters who wish to do a story on the procedure, its patients and doctors should call Jennifer Wilson at Lexington Medical Center at 803-791-2191. For more information on the South Carolina Obesity Surgery Center and the ROSE procedure, go to www.scobesity.com.

Is Gastric Band Surgery Cheating?

Most People who are considering gastric band surgery probably have been struggling with their weight problem for many years – they have lost and regained weight perhaps several times.

Gastric Band dose not provide an instant solution, but it does provide a long term solution, most patients manage to reach a weight they are comfortable with and can stablise their weight.

Is gastric band cheating? Well, it dose cheat misery and bad health. Does it make any sense to struggle with a weight problem for many years – life is short, most people want to have a healthy and happy life without their weight problem hanging over them day in and day out. Giving that you can now get this surgery for around under £4,000, it makes sense to get it done if your BMI (body mass index) is between 35 to 50. The money you can save from your food bills after the surgery will exceed soon that you have paid for the surgery.

The money you will save from your food bills can then be happily spent on an entire new wardrobe. This is not cheating, this is logical, sensible decision.

Do talk to your GP about the idea of getting a gastric band fitted, if your local nhs won’t do it, there is no reason why you should not get it done privately if you can manage the finance.

Boots has installed easy-to-use Healthy-Weight Check Machines in larger stores throughout the UK which enable customers to ensure they are making the right weight-loss decision for their individual needs. The machines give a healthy weight assessment that measures their height, weight, and BMI at the cost of just 50 pence.

For those on a reduced calorie and lower fat diet, they may find it helpful to consider supplementation, to help ensure they are meeting all their nutritional needs while on a diet.

Boots Positive Healthcare Technical Expert Nick Bennett said: “If customers are taking a weight loss product that reduces fat absorption, then they may wish to consume extra fat soluble vitamins and important fatty acids such as EPA and DHA which may otherwise be lacking in the diet. A good way to do this is by building a foundation of supplementation to include a complete A-Z of vitamins and minerals, an omega 3 supplement, such as a high strength fish oil, and a probiotic supplement to help maintain the health of the digestive tract while it experiences potentially radical changes in food intake.”

SurgiCare Has Revealed That Enquiry Figures For Tummy Tuck Procedures Have Risen By Over 70 Per Cent During The First Quarter Of 2009

This increase is great news for SurgiCare who this year received 355 enquiries during the usually relatively slow period between January and March, compared with 207 enquiries over the first three months last year.

Tummy Tuck

This latest data from the cosmetic surgery provider indicates that as the summer approaches many people are starting to become more bikini conscious, and are looking for the quickest solution to get them to their ideal figure and ready for the beach.

Abdominoplasty, which is often commonly referred to as a tummy tuck, is usually performed to help remove excess skin on the tummy which has been gained due to pregnancy or as a result of losing a large amount of weight. The procedure is designed to help smooth and add firmness to a person’s abdomen, giving the patient a slimmer and trimmer profile.

These figures follow on the back of a survey carried out by Surgicare on post-op weight loss surgery patients which found that the average reduction in waist size following surgery was 13.2 inches. 80% of patients also expressed experiencing a significant improvement in their overall quality of life since their procedure and 77% stated that they would consider cosmetic surgery again in the future.

Based on these figures and trends from previous years’ SurgiCare is preparing for a record year, as Brits shun the economic crisis and instead seek a confidence boost by preparing to look their best for the beach.

Expert Reveals Simple Secrets To Lifelong Weight Loss

You can finally lose weight and keep it off forever… just by thinking like a fit person. That’s the promise of a new book, Die Fat or Get Tough: The 101 Differences in Thinking Between Fat People and Fit People by Steve Siebold. It’s a new approach to helping two thirds of Americans who are overweight or obese.

“It’s about learning and using mental toughness to stick to a diet and exercise program,” says Siebold, an internationally recognized mental toughness expert who lives in North Georgia and South Florida. “It’s so simple that anyone can use mental toughness. This will be the last book you’ll ever need to read on weight loss.”

The author was recently a “fat tub of lard with a large pot belly.” The information in the book helped him lose 40 pounds in 12 weeks, and he hasn’t had a problem since.

Here is a question and answer session with Steve Siebold:

What is the book about?

“It’s not about the fact that diets don’t work or getting fat wasn’t your fault. Of course, it was your fault. Someone wasn’t stuffing pizzas and doughnuts down your throat. You did. It’s not all about diet or weight loss or exercise.

“It’s about learning and using mental toughness to stick to a diet or exercise program. It’s about thinking – consciousness. Mental toughness is about taking mental and emotion control of your life, and it begins with self-discovery. But mental toughness can get you thin and healthy.”

What do you mean by the title, Die Fat or Get Tough?

“Overweight people have only two options in life. Die fat or get tough! Two thirds of Americans are overweight or obese, says the federal government, and the number is increasing rapidly. This is a giant health problem.”

So is mental toughness the secret to losing weight?

“Yes. Dieting is not easy, but it is simple. Just pick a world-class diet and exercise program and develop the mental toughness to stick to it. It’s the only effective way to shed unwanted pounds. You can develop mental toughness by understanding the 101 differences in thinking between fat and fit people explained in the book.”

What’s so different about this book?

“There’s a million diet books out there. But this book is a new approach to losing weight and getting fit that is so simple that anyone can use it. And it will be the last book you ever need to read on weight loss. You’ll think about being fat like you never have before. That’s why I believe my book is so unique and effective.

“It’s really hard-hitting. It will eliminate every excuse you’ve ever made for being fat. It will force you to see yourself as others see you. You will learn that getting fat is really your fault – completely your fault. And it will help you emerge victorious over your weight problem. You will begin to believe you can do anything – that you can live a long, healthy life, filled with boundless energy and super self confidence.”

Who is the book written for?

“If you are 10 or more pounds overweight and ready to get fit, this book can be the answer. It’s for anyone who really wants to lose weight, wants to get tough, do it and solve it for once so it never comes back. I’m not talking about some fad diet where you lose some weight and gain it back. I’m talking about wiping out all excuses and solving your weight problem once and for all.

“The people who really work hard at controlling their weight have a mindset – it’s mental toughness. And you can adapt this mindset and understand how fat people think versus how fit people think. If you catch yourself thinking like a fat person, you’ll know how to change it to a fit person’s thinking.

Why did you write this book?

“I wrote it to shock people out of the psychological delusion that keeps them fat, sick, and unhappy…and into reality about what it takes to get fit forever. People are suffering needlessly, getting sick and dying too young because they’re fat. This book has the power to change that, if the reader is tough enough to grow up and accept objective reality.”

How did you gather the information in the book?

“I did five years of research and interviewed hundreds of fat and fit people across the United States and dissected their core beliefs and philosophies around diet and exercise. What I found were fit people have completely different beliefs and philosophies in this area, and these beliefs and philosophies drove their eating and exercise habits. The differences in thinking are so extreme I decided to write a book about it.”

I understand that the book has been called “disturbing.”

“One of my colleagues called my book a disturbing masterpiece. This book will shock you. It will grab you by the throat and not let you go. I’ve had people tell me they get mad at the book, toss it aside for a while and then pick it back up. I’m known for being direct, but this book is borderline offensive. People all over the world say they are shocked with the approach or offended but couldn’t disagree with anything I wrote.”

What is your background?

“I am an internationally recognized expert in mental toughness, and I once was a fat slob! I train sales management teams of Fortune 500 companies, address some 60 live audiences a year and rank among the top 1% of income earners among professional speakers worldwide. I have written two books on mental toughness. The late Bill Gove, the father of public speaking, and I formed the Gove-Siebold Group, based in Boynton Beach, Florida. I co-starred in the movie “Beyond the Secret”, which is to be released June 23, 2009.

“I live in South Florida and in the Atlanta, Georgia metropolitan area with my wife Dawn, a dog and two sugar gliders.”

How can someone get this book and your other books?

You now can get five chapters of the eBook for free at www.diefatbook.com. The print soft cover edition of Die Fat or Get Tough is scheduled for release in mid-July 2009. You can order copies in advance at www.diefatbook.com, starting about mid-June.

Brits Have Biggest BMI In Europe As Revealed By LighterLife

LighterLife has revealed that British women are the most overweight in Europe and British men tip the scales as the third fattest, according to the average European body mass index (BMI).

LighterLife

In the lead up to BMI 4 Life, a campaign highlighting the life-and-death importance of BMI, an alarming survey published in the newsletter of the French National Institute of Demographic studies has shown that British women on average have a BMI of 26.2, which is considered overweight.

French women have a BMI of 23.2, the lowest in the EU, but tend to worry more about being fat than those in any other EU country. Typically, British woman are overweight but convinced they are slim, highlighting the fact that many people don’t know what BMI means and have no idea how it is measured.

Unsurprisingly, the survey suggests that men across the EU are less concerned about their weight than women, although out of the 15 member countries only French and Dutch men fall within the ideal weight range, with the rest being overweight.

The BMI 4 Life campaign, which is being championed by weight-management experts LighterLife, aims to highlight the very real dangers associated with excessive weight gain and the importance of reaching and maintaining a healthy BMI.

LighterLife is once again teaming up with The Stroke Association and is encouraging members of the public to get involved and show they care by visiting and posting a message on the LighterLife website, taking a quiz and passing it onto their friends to help LighterLife increase awareness and raise money for The Stroke Association.

Sara Jamison, CEO at LighterLife said: “We are excited about supporting The Stroke Association and are encouraging everyone to post their messages of support, take the quiz, learn more about the risks associated with stroke and pass the message onto their friends to raise thousands of pounds for this very worthwhile charity.”

Sara added: “More people than you realise are at risk of having a stroke and being overweight can increase this risk. Carrying extra weight around the waist is particularly dangerous as it increases the risk of stroke, heart disease and some cancers threefold.”

Andrea Lane, Media Manager for The Stroke Association, said: “Many people don’t realise that a stroke is a brain attack that happens when the blood supply to the brain is cut off and brain cells die. As the brain controls everything we do, think and feel the damage can be devastating. Being obese can increase your risk of stroke by over 30 per cent so it is vital we all maintain a healthy body weight and a good diet.”

About LighterLife:
LighterLife is a weight loss and weight-management programme for people who are one stone or more overweight and with a body mass index (BMI) of 25 or above. LighterLife has successfully helped over 100,000 people lose weight fast since 1996.

LighterLife offers programmes specific to the obese and the overweight, showing them how to lose weight with the use of weight loss aids including an online BMI calculator, nutritionally complete soups, shakes and bars combined with specialised counselling using cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) and transactional analysis (TA) techniques.

Toronto Weight Loss Surgery Gives Patients A New Lease On Life

Personal weight issues are usually private battles fought behind closed doors. Common feelings of shame, fear and low self esteem felt by individuals waging war against weight issues often keeps them from seeking assistance from friends, family and medical professionals. All it takes is one comforting hand to step into the picture and help put an individual at ease.

One Bariatric Surgery center is working hard to be that helping hand. Using a laparoscopic band, Slimband’s skilled surgical team creates a smaller gastric pouch by encircling the upper portion of the client’s stomach. The band is then adjusted by filling it with a saline solution to achieve the correct restriction. This creates the ability for the client to feel full faster and require less food while still feeling satisfied. Because less food is being consumed by the client they begin to successfully lose weight. On average, clients will see up to a 48% weight loss within the first year following the medical procedure.

Weight loss is the key motivator for gastric banding surgery; however it also results in additional benefits, with clients experiencing improved health, a positive feeling of self-worth and increased energy levels. All of these factors lead to a client leading an overall higher quality of life; becoming more socially engaged, physically active and with lower health risks.

Laparoscopic gastric banding is a simple and safe medical procedure resulting in a highly effective solution to weight issues and obesity-related health risks. There are a number of clients who seek this medical procedure as a way to treat Type 2 diabetes, as it has been proven to reduce symptoms and, in some cases, even cure the disease.

Once a client has attended the complimentary consultation and is qualified for the procedure, they get access to the extensive pre-op support the clinic provides in preparation for their surgery. During the minimally-invasive laparoscopic surgery a small gastric band is placed around the upper portion of the stomach. An access port is placed underneath the abdomen wall that will allow medical staff to administer the saline solution for band adjustments.

While weight loss surgery of this type has become common practice in recent years, potential clients are advised to thoroughly research the credentials of a medical facility before undergoing the surgical procedure. While many treatment centers perform this operation, the Slimband clinic provides an unrivaled follow-up program with the expertise of a multi-disciplinary staff.

When a client books their procedure they also have access to the extensive post-operative support. The Slimband Support Program is specifically tailored to address the various needs of people struggling with obesity and weight loss. Their support staff provides knowledge and guidance in the areas of proper nutrition, psychological counseling, physical fitness and medical assistance. Because each of these follow-up treatments is included in the original procedure payment, no additional charges are incurred by the client.

The support program is offered at the Toronto Slimband clinic and outpatient arrangements can be made for long distance clients that live out of the area. Slimband also offers financing options for the surgery through a reputable medical procedure creditor.

Post-surgery clients learn to make better lifestyle changes by learning proper nutrition and how to make healthy meal choices when at home or dining out. Counseling programs guide clients in identifying triggers, creating goals for their new life and how to achieve them. Fitness experts encourage clients to include physical activities in their schedules and create customized fitness regimens in order to regain their self-confidence. Finally, the medical staff provides follow-up care to monitor the client’s progress, track the band’s restriction and fill levels as well as discuss any medical issues a client may be experiencing. The inclusive post-surgery follow-up care extends across a four-year period.

Lloydspharmacy Chief Urges Weight Loss Pills Must Be Sold With Care

Lloydspharmacy has warned customers that the weight loss treatment alli, which can now be sold in pharmacies without a prescription must be supplied only after a proper consultation, fearing that people may take it even though it’s not clinically appropriate for them to do so.

Andy Murdock, Pharmacy Relations and Governance Director of Lloydspharmacy, said: “It’s important that all sectors of the pharmacy profession uphold the very highest clinical standards when providing this treatment,” he said. “A number of GPs have said they are worried that alli weight loss treatment may be sold to people for whom it is clinically inappropriate.

“I am calling on all colleagues to maintain the very highest standards when the service begins tomorrow and not to let the desire to please the customer override clinical considerations.”

Lloydspharmacy has trained more than 3,000 pharmacists and healthcare assistants to sell the treatment.

alli can help people who are overweight to boost their weight loss by up to 50 per cent. So, for every 2lbs of weight lost through their own efforts, alli can help shed a further 1lb.

However, it is only appropriate for people who have a BMI of 28 or over and should only be sold to people who are happy to lose weight gradually, are ready to adopt a reduced calorie, lower-fat diet and eat smaller portions.

People who are on certain medications* should be referred to their GP and there are some important contra-indications**.

Dr Chris Steele, who is famous for helping a ‘This Morning’ viewer lose 30 stones, said: “alli is a proven weight loss treatment and I am pleased that it’s now available over the counter in pharmacies. It’s good to see that responsible pharmacy groups like Lloydspharmacy have trained their staff thoroughly so that the treatment is only sold to people for whom it’s appropriate.”

alli contains Orlistat, which has been available on prescription marketed as Xenical at 120mg for over 10 years. It helps to prevent the absorption of fat and allows excess fat from food consumed to pass naturally through the body.

“All customers who want to buy alli should have a proper private consultation with a pharmacy professional who has been trained to advise customers about the treatment,” added Murdock. “They should be given a record card with the first
purchase and present this each time they buy further courses.”

“It is not a miracle cure for obesity,” said Andy Murdock. “For people who are committed to losing weight and who are prepared to make the appropriate lifestyle changes, alli can provide a very significant additional benefit, but it’s not a magic bullet.”

* Amidorane, Acarbose, Fat soluble vitamins
** anti-coagulants, ciclosporin. Also, alli should not be sold to anyone under 18 or to pregnant or breast feeding women
