Narconon Arrowhead Works With Community For Recovery Month

(Canadian, OK) – Narconon Arrowhead believes that their role in fighting the drug problem is more than just effective rehabilitation services. They also provide drug education and prevention as well as work with other community leaders to improve living conditions in the area.

Recently they participated in an effort to revive an old theater nearby with the Pride in McAlester group, where several staff members assisted in cleaning it up the OKLA Theater along with people from Westwood Construction, Hope House and Interior Resources. It was just one of many community events the organization has participated in this year.

In addition to providing drug prevention for tens of thousands of students throughout the state of Oklahoma and surrounding areas, Narconon Arrowhead has also been working with local businesses to offer drug education in the workplace, and was named the business of the month for the McAlester Area Chamber of Commerce.

A manager at a local plant that received a workplace seminar reported, “Our staff has learned so much more than we may have anticipated learning or had already known about the affects of substance and alcohol use both in and out of the workplace. We have learned to recognize key factors and circumstances that drive people to substance abuse and why people continue of this path of destruction…I recommend the training that Narconon provides to area businesses as a means to strengthen their organizations.”

Additional community involvement continues throughout National Recovery month and heading into Red Ribbon Week in October, where Narconon Arrowhead is one of the active members in the “Take Back McAlester” campaign, culminating in a 10K run that supports the arts and humanities. For example, according to a ‘Drug use in Toronto, Canada’ survey, it was found that 37% of Toronto street youth were using crystal meth. This number is based on a specific population, but the Canadian Association of Mental Health does not report an increase within the general population. “Regardless of how it is looked at, crystal meth addiction is a serious problem, and needs to be treated right away,” said Hayes.

Dr. Benedikt Fisher led this particular research study, and was able to discover that heroin was becoming less significant among illicit opiate users. When the time-release formula was created and approved, it ended up changing the course of opiate abuse. Users discovered that by chewing and mixing it with alcohol, crushing the drug and snorting it, or even cooking it down and injecting it, they would experience an extremely intense high, which happens very rapidly and the effects are similar to that of heroin.

First started in 2001, the study followed close to 600 participants from seven different Canadian cities; Montreal, Quebec City, Fredericton, St. John, Vancouver, Edmonton, and Toronto. The Narconon Trois-Rivieres drug rehab program recently put together a new drug rehab video paying tribute to some Narconon drug rehab graduates, and the Narconon program founder, William Benitez. In this video there is a small clip of the amazing drug education lecture given by Benitez over 40 years ago. He talks about how drugs are the easiest way to hurt a person. He says: “The quickest way to hurt a person, or a nation, or a group, the quickest way to hurt a person’s goals, his aims, his ability, his life, is by introducing that person to narcotics.”

This statement made by Mr. Benitez is the absolute truth. Everyday, there are more and more people being introduced to narcotics. When this happens, these people start down a path that could potentially take everything. William Benitez was aware of this 40 years ago, when he overcame his own 19 year long addiction to heroin, and other drugs. He started the first Narconon therapy group that saved his life, and the lives of twelve other inmates. This video production gives a glimpse of where some of the graduates of the Narconon drug rehab program were in the midst of their addiction, and then the video shows where these graduate are, after completing a drug rehab program.
